i agree, its like asking everyone here which do you choose your family or your profession? i think everyone would say family, so hes just trying to make that money while he can. I would do the same thing.

Promise a team that you will sign with them so they opt out of the last year of your contract, something they wouldn't have done otherwise, then go back on your word?

Because with only the $40 million offer from the cavs, his family would be living in poverty.

EDIT: In response to the post about earning money for his family.

Paxson isn't some innocent victim in this whole shenanigan. He had just as much, if not more, to gain from voiding the option year, and he knew very well the possible consequences of taking such a risk. He tried to lock Boozer into a bargain basement deal, and avoid paying the big bucks when Boozer hit free agency next year. Essentially, this was his attempt at pulling a fast one on the league and having a limited free agency where only the Cavaliers could negotiate with Boozer. Boozer gave him a verbal agreement to this and it seemed all well. But it didn't. It backfired in Paxson's face, but I suppose that comes with territory of sidestepping the league. Boozer reneged on his word and he turns out to be made a big villian in all of this. Is he a trustworthy guy? Probably not, but that's business. When it comes to $28 million dollars, morality tends to go out the window.

Guess one year was too much for the Jazz to take without a scumbag PF. They deserve each other if all these reports are true.

Being a Jazz fan

What if the cavs had done the same to boozer....promised him a deal and then backed off...Happens all the time in all sports. But when that happens everyone one says, " It's just business" And on a side note.....Who in their right mind would turn down a $26 million dollars raise? Not me !!!

This is true...

If I can move to Utah and make an extra $26M I'm not turning that down.

Well nothing would have happened, since it was a club option whether or not to pick up his last year, and they would have, but it was Boozer and his agent's decision to opt out of the last year so they could sign the 6 year deal with the Cavs.

The way they dealt with the whole Karl Malone thing seemed pretty classless. As I recall, the first time the Lakers came into town, their mascot beat up an effigy with his jersey on it. (I'm not sure if I'm recalling this accurately, but there was some sort of incident like this.) Not exactly the best way for a franchise to treat its all-time leading scorer.

Sorry, I'm kinda biased against the Jazz for the hold Malone did on Barkley before the classic Stockton 3 pointer to send them to the finals, and all the flopping that went on there the past 10-15 years. Sorry if I offended any Jazz fans, I was tired when I made that post up there.

not sure if it was anything to do with malone's jersey his first time back in Utah. I remember there was some kinda PA stunt with the mascot and either the PA announcer or owner or GM where they mimicked malone and he got real pissed off. dont remember the specs though.

That sounds closer to it. I just remember there being some minor stir with the Jazz organization doing something relatively untasteful with Malone the first time the Lakers came back into town.

It was over the PA, and they had a voice like Malone's saying he wanted to come back to Utah, because he doesn't like it in LA and they treat him bad there. And then at the end of it all it says, "But hey I guess it could be worse, atleast I'm not Ko..."

Which therefore ended any shot of Kobe coming to Utah over this FA period (not like Kobe would want to live in Utah anwyays) and it also upset Malone a lot because a stunt like that had to go through the head guys who Malone thought he was "still friends with."

I say congrats to Boozer.

Maybe he just helped Cleveland realize that if not for a lucky draw last year, that team would still be the laughing stock of the NBA.

LeBron James is great, but he can't lead that team on his own.
