Does anyone have preferences on what counties to include for Origins? Any more than what I already have? Also, if they are not included in the other name files, I would need them as well..

Feel free to email me at: davwms@prime-time-sports.com

Thanks!

Now, what I am thinking is listing countries to be used as origins, the user would be able to select if that county would be used and can also set likeliness that that country would be used..

for instance:
If you have U.S. selected with a "strength" of 99 and Mexico selected with a "strength" of 1, US should show approximately 99% if the time...

As long as they are editable it doesn't matter to me which ones you include. You should just stick to what countries feed MLB right now and have historically.

MD - It's Colombia

Dave - In addition to the Colombia file I sent you: I have updated most of the other countries so more variety will occur than the previous data I collected. (The U.S. file now includes over 4500 cities)

I also noticed the game occasionally creates a player from Honduras - I will send you a file for that as well.

Thanks again for working on this. You have made the process a 100 times easier than what I had created with the spreadsheet.

I also noticed about Honduras showing up.. I thought about it but how many players really come from Honduras? :-)

I already have a US cities file.. with over 6900 cities/towns.. If you want to send me yours I can match them up and see which ones I am missing? What is the smallest one that you have and I will let you know if I already have that included.. ;-)

Im also trying to include other countries that I have not seen created in OOTP, like Korea, Taiwan... I can always use help with them, too :-) (Name files as well as city lists)

Thanks for the help !

I am currently at work, so I am not sure if that is the US city file I sent you or if you added/created your own after that.

I have already completed/expanded Canada, Cuba, Japan, Dominican, Puerto Rico, Colombia and Venezuela as well. I can work on Korea and Taiwan.

The sight I orginally used to create the OriginMaker in December has updated their data, so just about any country can be added.

http://www.world-gazetteer.com/home.htm

I found another site that has population data for just about every US city.

http://www.city-data.com/

I look forward to the finished product.

Just to fill you all in...

I've made a ton of progress on this program today. In fact it is nearly finished, I'm just rounding out my various sets of City and Name files..

If anyone already has some of these available (and I haven't been able to download them from this thread) , feel free to send them to me to be added in..

My email address currently is: davwms@direcway.com

Currently, I have city files for US, Australia, Canada, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Honduras, Japan, S Korea, Mexico, Panama, Puerto Rico, United Kingdon, and Venezuela.
I have Name files for Australia (first & last), Canada (first), Japan (first & last), S Korea (first & last), United States (first & last).
I also have general first & last name files for use with the latin countries (Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Honduras, Mexico, Panama, Puerto Rico, & Venezuela).

Any further assistance with the name files that I can get would be greatly appreciated! :-)

BTW: BlueTurf, thanks for the head's up on that website (http://www.world-gazetteer.com/home.htm), it made arranging the cities a ton easier!

You have an error in your CSV file, most likely due to a city name that is too long for the field.

Open the CSV file in notepad and you will find a break in the pattern or format of the file. Go back into the game and change the city of the impacted player to a shorter one.
Export your CSV file again and run the generator.

All of the origins in the csv are set to USA, Also I notice that whenever I export from the game and then import the csv back, even with out using the utility that the heights are all inverted - eg. 6"0 become 0"0, 5"11 become 11"0. This is weird. I can get the utility to work with OOTP6, but I am trying to use it with OOTP5 until the patch to speed up OOTP6 is out.....

Send me a copy of the CSV file, and I will modify my new program to be able to work with OOTP5. I thought that I had this new one all done, but ran into a snag while testing.. it works fine the first time, but when I tried to run it after a season was completed, I am getting "input past end of file" errors..

ptbl@pt-sports.com

I just converted to OOTP6 and everything runs fine. I am using the historical names pack and changedd the origin dat folder to use the us_origin file for the other 9 dat's. I am getting players from HONDURAS, COSTA RICA, GERMANY, ITALY and other countries that do not have a dat file into the game. I then tried to change these players to USA from the CSV file and then run your program - this is when I get the error 62 now. The CSV file also changed in size when I changed these records, so that is probably the problem.

I guess if I want only US origin players I could use the CSV to search for countries not included in your program and then edit them through the game editor, in a 16 team league I get about 15 a season that are from countries other than the ones with origins included in your fine program....Honduras and Costa Rica supply the most players but I have had 1 from Italy and Germany as well.

I enjoy the program - makes things easier, but it would be nice to be able to add countries to a list and and add a few origin dat files for other countries or to have the program use the US_ORIGIN file if the country read is not one of the ones with a dat file ( but you would need to be careful not to overwrite the records previously updated with a location previously created by the program). Any way there are a few work arounds.

after making those changes to the csv file, you need to import it back into the league and then export it again.. OOTP exports the files slightly differently than the was EXCEL saves them.. If you were to open the file in notepad instead, and do your modifications, you wouldn't have the problem probably

as for you other suggestions, check out the earlier posts.. I am working on a completely new version where you will be able to select the frequencies for different country origins, and even be able to add your own..

You might want to check out OOTPOrigins (see http://www.ootpdevelopments.com/boar...ad.php?t=56269 ), which gets the job done.
