Stats do affect stars as well, to the same degree as you set the AI evaluation in the league setup screen, so this is why they change more constantly in V6.

I just wanted to post to agree with the original poster in that I think there may in fact be something odd happening..
I'm looking at the First year player draft in OOTP6 with coaches and scouts disabled. I look at the general ratings and view the stars (all blue in this case) I particular I see a CL that is 4.5 and a 1B that is 3.5. I do some clicking on the players to read their scouting reports and salary demands. I go back to the star ratings sometime later and suddenly the ratings are CL=4 and 1B=3. When no stats or games had been played. Now I realize that this is just a .5* change but it seems odd that it would change when nothing has been done except viewing players. I used just two examples there but many of the pool players decrease in stars and I didn't remember to look enough to see if there were bigger changes. So I exit the draft screen and reload hoping to see the original ratings again. Nope. Then I tried closing the league, opening it again and magically the ratings were back to the orginal.. It appears that it got in some weird mode that changed the rating calculations and I'm not even the exact trigger or sequence that got us there. But it definitely sounds like some sort of weird behavior. |

Using the V6 default ratings, I have seen guys change as much as two gold stars day-to-day. I have a 1B who is the reigning 2 time league MVP who has suffered no rating changes in three years and his rating varies between 2.5 to 4 stars daily. In V5 it was out of the norm to see guys change star ratings at all without a significant change in real ratings. I don't pretend to understand the new system and in the end it really means nothing to me anyway so I ignore the star ratings now and only look at actualy ratings and potential ratings.

With the new version taking into effect statistics, it is possible that too high of a percentage in the current year will pick up the early season "hot and cold" patterns of players. You have the choice of either reducing the current year percent (which should be done for other reasons anyways) or living with the fact the star ratings will start out in flux and stabilize as the year progresses.

I think that may explain gold star changes day to day..
But still I don't know of an explanation for the blue stars changing without even progressing the season. |

Don't you guys know that the game doesn't know stars. Man, don't make me reference that thread.
Seriously...all things aside, most of us understand how stars work and how guys can change on a day to day basis, but I've seen this as well. No coaches, no scouts, but different star ratings when I re-open player profiles and such. Weird.
