I once got the league settings wrong, and half the league hit 15 homeruns in a month.

Wow, I didn't notice his SB% last season until you posted this. Impressive. You think he'll ever decide whether or not he's a power hitter?

I don't know but I sure would like to see him win 10 MVPs and then I would say he has this category wrapped up.

I agree this is the benchmark for comparing greatness. I also think because Gross was generated by the OOTP engine rather than being a historical player, he's special. We're talking about a guy, in a league with a HR record of 60, who's a 40/40 guy with a .380 avg. and a .480 OBP. He's hit .400 twice and no one else has even approached his career batting average. He averages around 20 runs created/27 outs for his career where the next guy might be around 12.

No way could he average 20 RC/27 for his career. He was 12 and 14.8 his last two seasons. Sedgwick and Baker aren't THAT far behind.

The 20+ RC/27 were numbers I had remembered from the days Dewey used to run the RC app back in the OOTP3 + 4 days. You are probably correct about Baker and Sedgwick but they play in the lesser league so they don't count.

With 2007 right around the corner we'll get another opportunity to beat this one once more around the bush. It's kinda funny my most passionate baseball arguments are about my fictional league and not Pete Rose or MLB.

This is for all you Nap Lojoie fans out there...I had just started a 1901 sim and ran somewhere around 20-25 test seasons to make sure my league totals were correct. When I sim, I usually like to watch the pennant races take place, especially in the old leagues as it was all or nothing...no wild card to save you. But 1901 was different....I started watching the leaderboard.

Lajoie came out of the chute on fire that season....hitting .495 at the end of April, I thought he'd cool down as there was a lot of season yet to go. Let's just say he didn't cool down...unless you consider his .379 avg. in Sept & Oct a cool down. Here are his month by month Avg. breakdowns. I will list his month avg first and then his total avg to that point after that.

Apr - .495 / .495
May - .455 / .475
Jun - .451 / .467
Jul - .418 / 456
Aug - .482 / .461
Sep/
Oct - .379 (what a slump!!!) / .447 final season avg.

I couldn't believe it...I had to check my league batting avg as I figured I must have miskeyed my league totals and my league avg would be too high. Nope....my sim league avg was .2707....the real 1901 league avg. was .2718. My league hit worse than real life. And my other numbers were right on target as well. Lajoie had finished 67 points higher than the next closest batter. I had no choice but to keep that season on file. It is a record that will probably never be broken. Here are his season totals for 1901, this might be one of the greatest seasons in baseball history:

G - 162
AB - 658
R - 156
H - 294 (another record not to be broken)
2B - 69
3B - 13
HR - 16
RBI - 117
SB - 74
CS - 20
BB - 46
SO - 32
AVG - .447
OBP - .487
SLG - .664
OPS - 1.151
XR - 176.8
OWS - 52.7

Sorry Carlton....this is from my own older historical league that I had started only a few weeks before your original post regarding your league came out. I unzipped your league and borrowed some of its contents for my own league (logos, photos, etc). I haven't got a chance to really dig into yours yet, but I will be soon.

What are your league settings then?

They seem close to mine. Nap has about a 40% chance of doing that in my league.

Do you use default parks, or the Old League park...or others?

You know what, that is the one thing I did not keep a record of. I have an era settings file that I created where I enter the current settings, real life stats, sim stats, and then it figures the new settings from that (pretty similar to the other programs for download). But each year I overwrite the previous year's settings, guess I never even gave a thought to saving them. Now I wish I had since it would have been easier to start another league in the future. I do have some settings from my league on paper for 1903-1905 (the year I am in right now). As for the stadiums, I am using SoxMan's ballparks.

Send me an email and we can compare notes on our leagues. My address is jessejab@bis.midco.net. My league isn't a full-fledged true historical league....I am releasing all the players and drafting them in instead of putting them on their real teams. I am a Red Sox fan....why do I want to recreate history and watch the Yanks win time and time again?

So far I am through the 1905 season and I have a dynasty starting already. The Pittsburgh Pirates have won the last 3 WS and the NL has won 4 out of 5 (I started the WS in 1901).
