The World Series winner gets a gift certificate to the Cooperstown Ballcap Company to get a baseball cap.
I don't know that I'd really consider this a "money league," since the amount in question is too small for people to have much of an incentive to cheat. However, I think it's a really great idea.....

16 Teams by $3 a head = $48.

I've seen people in this world cheat at something for a lot less than $50.

Whether it's $ .50 or $50. some people will cheat. Usually cheats don't see the value but only the gain, be it small or large.

It's sort of like the 'glass half full' or 'glass half empty' condumdrum.

It doesn't matter if the commissioner is a cheater or not. Some people will be sure he is and some will be sure he isn't. It has nothing to do with his actual cheating or not.

Let's face it. It's all trust. I know it's harder on the Internet than in face to face real life. My philosphy is I trust everyone UNTIL they show me different. Everyone gets the benefit of the doubt. If I didn't function like this, people would annoy me a lot more than they do. And I have LOTS of other things to worry about besides 'so and so' cheats.

Yes, people will and do cheat for any reason. But why worry about it unless you know for sure? And why even consider it? It is a waste of effort.

And they'll never catch me either. Wait, didn't Saddam say that too?

Actually, the league I just recently started is using a cash prize for the WS champs each year, plus it helps pay for our website costs.

We vote each season on one of the following:

$10 per franchise or
$2 per $10 mil of payroll on opening day

Makes for a very interesting season, and keeps everyone involved. We are all friends and know each other quite well, so no problems with trust.

That's the key. Playing games that need lots of trust with some random guy on the net isn't the greatest idea. If you have no friends, start a two-team league and play with your kid brother. You know you cheat better than he does.

I've always had an idea for fantasy that I'd love to employ in OOTP, but the whole problems with money league thing kinda stop it.

I'd like people to have to pay based on their payroll. ie. if you have a $85 million payroll, you have to pay $8.50 for the season. If you spend the money right, you'll have a greater chance of winning the pot, but you could also potentially lose more.
