Off the top of my head I think the top rookies next season probably already got a cup of cofee this year. Pitchers like Rich Hardin and Edwin Jackson. Fielders like Miguel Cabrera are going to continue to contribute big next year. My rookie to watch is Atlanta's Johnny Estrada especially if Javy Lopez doesn't come back. All of these players have already had their cup of cofee in the majors which is important because it gives them an idea of the pressures that go along with playing on a major league level. The more experience a player has generally the better they can handle the pressure.

First, let me say this, that fan was not the reason the Cubs lost. The inexperience of Alex Gonzalez showed through when he mishandled what should have been an out in the same inning and I think that was more responsible for the loss although no one factor caused it. The fan was perfectly entitled to go for the ball because it was in fall territory. Having said that I don't believe any fan would intentionally cost his team an out especially in a playoff game like this. It's unfortunate that it happened but Cubs fans can't point to this single event. Unfortunately many will. Much as they point to the curse of the goat. The whole notion of curses is just plain silly. This was just some old fashioned bad luck.

Which rookies next year do you think will contribute most to their team by giving veteran presence?

See my above post on rookies. Those that have already been called up will have a better idea of what to expect than those that haven't. While that's not quite veteran presence it is experience and that's an important intangible.

Joe, in relation to this, does Matsui deserve the ROY of the year, not just because of his GREAT RBI total, but also because he is the only rookie that brought a veteran presence to the lineup?

When do you think MLB will grant a franchise to a country outside of North America?

Joe, you look different than you did when you managed the Red Sox. Did you have plastic surgery?

The Blue Jays obviously don't solely rely on homeruns but there offense is built around the homerun and that shows in their numbers. The high SLG-OBP-OPS-RUNS were all a result of the power on the team. People like to point to those stats as more important than the more widely used stats but many people fail to understand that those numbers are a result of hitting for power and not vice versa.
Hey! Do a google on my question and find the right answer!

I played so many years it's hard to remember every month but there are many sites on the internet where you can find my career stats broken down by month if you're interested. I'm not so concerned about monthly stats though, it's about what you do over the long haul, over the full season.

Houston was where I got my start but those years in Cincinati were special. It's where I blossomed into the hall of fame veteran that I am today. Both were great baseball towns though but Cincinati is a little more special in my heart because it's where I first learned how important the intangibles are.

Very observant dougaiton. Matsui deserves the ROY award for many reason but yes, chief among them are the RBI total and veteran composure he has shown during pressure situations.

I think it's becoming more and more likely that we'll see another team outside of North America. Don't forget about the Expos and Blue Jays though, both of those teams play outside of North America. Currency values make it hard to move another team outside of the country though but with the way the game is headed I think it could happen again one day.

As it stands now the ROY award is based on the first year played in the MLB. Whether that's right or wrong isn't for me to decide but those are the rules and I have based my decision on those rules.
