When viewing players (on our own team, in the draft, free agency, from another team's roster), do it through the eyes of our scout only.

Here is another Markus : I started a thread about owners having the ability to delete the in-game emails. A minor thing but would be great to do, you could roll it into the ftp/export file so the master league file would pick it up and delete them.

Okay...you asked...I'll tell.
Would REALLY like to see the ability to play out some games head to head online for online leagues. Would really make the playoff games interesting, etc. Please? Please? PLEEEEEEZE???

Soemthing I would really like to see is the ability to blank all line ups and pitching staff roles so that you could start completely fresh!!
It is a pain to me anyways that I have to pull off all the players before starting fresh!! PLEASE!! |

"Okay...you asked...I'll tell.

That would be so cool but I its not something for a patch. But maybe just the possibility of making a simple webpage output "on the fly". Yesterday we played out our ASG in my league. We met in a chatroom, two GM´s took over the AL/NL team and told me what to do (swing away, pitch + normal, etc.), I did it in the game and then wrote the PbP text in the chat. After 5 hours my hands felt off. So my idea is now that like the onlineleague reports it would be cool to have a exportbutton on the exibitiongame screen and after every play I can create a simple output page (just PbP text, boxscore, next 3 Batter, Pitcher, who is on base) . Then I don´t have to write the PbP text, the GM´s can just refresh the webpage. palli

Being able to see "illegal" cuts on the transaction wire is fine, but you have to keep something else in mind here.
When a player is cut and becomes an FA, he no longer has a salary, nor does it show his last salary. So if you have some owners who cut a few players that didn't clear waivers, and the Commish goes and looks at the transaction wire and sees this, he's still in a quandry. Why? Because he can easily say to the owner(s) "you cut so and so illegaly, I'm assinging him back to your team. Great, except how does the commish know how much the players contract was so he can assign the same amount back to the player? It's fine and dandy to say waiver players won't be a problem because if I had a player with an ML contract I'd hope another team would claim him. However there are a lot of border line ML players with contracts in the 500K to 1.5M zone who owners don't mind taking the $$$ loss on just to make room. Therefore, this option of cutting players on your own as an owner should be restricted to minors only. I'd be willing to bet money that there will be owners who try and abuse this. Like the old saying goes, if you build it, they will come. If you make the option available, they will abuse it. Sorry for being skeptical, but I like to look at these things from all angles, not just the good one. I appluad Markus for the idea and the things he does for this game, but this is one option that will cause problems as well as make life easier. |

My suggestions...
Allow for editing of contract extensions prior to advancing the season. For example, when I get the players' demands for salary, often its a couple of sims later before I can implement an owner's decision. The player often changes his mind, so I have to sign them for higher terms and then edit them when the season advances.
Add the ability to trade draft picks! The ability to easily import players and teams from an alternate league into a league. When doing expansion, we want to use a new draft pool instead of watering down teams by having an 'expansion draft'. For me to pull all those drafted players and teams over, its a lot of hassle. Anything to simplify that would be great (and save me hours of entering players/teams/rosters). Finally, fix the Player Tracker screen to make the position filter buttons to work. And an enhancement to the roster screens in general would be to allow for multiple highlightings - for example, I want to see all LF, CF, and RFers. The only way to do that is to highlight one at a time. <b>Adding some more ideas/fixes!</b> Free agency fixes: 1. Fix how any team can press the "Show Offers" button to see an updated list of who's offer is preferred. 2. Fix how you can right click on any player (which has a 'preferred offer' statement) without having the password of the team. This can be used by players to keep playing with their bids until they see that they're preferred bid before sending it in to the commish. 3. Any other exploits which allow people to gauge the player's decisions prior to the advance day button being pressed by the commish. Make the trade stuff in game work inside the client. For example, receiving/sending offers through in-game email. Remove the pissiness from player's who are on the trade block so that it can actually be a tool that's used. I think this waiver idea will breed problems, so please let us turn it off if we like.
No signing of extensions by owners either, please. |

The maximum loss for a team is $5M I believe - so, they could 'get away' with taking an $80M loss if they wanted heh

Or simply if the team is over say 5 million in debt the game would say "you can not afford to buy out this contract" |

I have two suggestions regarding the releasing of players and the online waiver wire.
In the HTML report for transactions, would it be too difficult to add in the amount of the released contract that was assisgned to a team in that report. So instead of just saying in the report..."Jose Lima released"...it would say "Jose Lima released ($1,450,000)" or something similar. The other suggestion is more toward the future releases and not so much a patch. Could you add in a new screen, something like "The Commissioner's Desk" or something. When a player is released to waivers...he goes on the waiver wire...now as it now, team post a bid on their leagues respective message board. What would be nice would be for the team releasing the player to waivers to be able to use the spot on the roster that the player occupied....but instead of just the player being sent to the general FA pool....he appears on the "Commisioners Desk" screen. Where, when the allotted time has passed...the Commisioner will view the waiver wire..and either input the team that claimed the released player off waivers...or will then release the player to the FA pool. The contract stays with the releasing team until the Commisioner inputs what happened (IE a team claimed him or was released out right. I hope that made atleast some kind of sense..lol... |

Another issue with allowing owner to release players is the old bug that a same season contract extension will not be included when calculating the salary cost to cut that player. B/c of this, I monitor my league's player cuts very closely to make sure no one is getting out of a valid extension that both the owner has made and the player has agreed to.
This bug should be fixed regardless however.

#1)
I think treches had the best advice, the player developments based more on stats... for leagues that are trying to create fair GM competition, too much emphasis is on player development, and less is on actually General Manager abilities in trying to make trades.. #2) TRADE HEADLINES - this is big.. right now the breaking news isnt as breaking as it could be.. to write up huge headlines for deals where players have a certain amount of stars perhaps, but to do a write up to really make people excited about their trade "wow the game did a write up!" that makes atmopshere #3) I dont know if anyones noticed but the HTML is still messed up for some teams where on the Team Page it lists Records vs LHP when for some teams its really their RHP record. This is evident by the amount of at bats to games in the statistics. #4) A glitch in the game where you can take Middle Relievers who are superstars and if theyre young, turn them into Starting Pitchers who are stars when their ratings are so high to begin with, simply because they are MR's in the first place. This is a problem, people have tried to cheat like that. #5) A more valuable database center for online leagues, www.ootp-leagues.com has too many dead links.. some leagues could use more exposure somehow.. #6) Making contract negotiating a little easier for GM's especially in online leagues.. its too easy if you dont have the game in front of you to make a player mad off the bat with the "Let me hear your offer" , every player should have a minimum asking price even if its too high, because if the team wants to meet it, they should have the option. Thats about all I can think of for now, tell me if you guys agree or disagree but this would make the balance of GM competition, activity and fun level highest its ever been. |
