2025 Draft Class
1/6 - LHP Ben Jacobs 21yo out of Arizona State. He projects to be a top of the rotation starter that could anchor a playoff team for a decade. Current velocity sits at around 93mph and tops out at 95 with potential to gain a few ticks. He offers an excellent array of pitches with all 4 of his offerings graded at above average or better including 3 plus pitches.
2/7 - RHP Myles Upchurch 18yo out of St. Albans HS. Although just 18 he’s already ahead many of his peers in development and could reach the majors quicker than your typical high schooler. He projects to slot in as a solid #3 starter. Doesn’t stand out with velocity but repeats his delivery well and keeps the ball in the park. He works off 3 above average pitches. 2/30 - C Caden Bodine 21yo out of Coastal Carolina University. Defensively projects to be above average and room to improve. Offensively he’s a patient hitter who draws a lot of walks and doesn’t strike out a ton. Will likely be a hit over power guy but can deliver 10-15 HR/year. Unfortunately doesn’t offer anything on the basepaths but overall a solid player that should develop into a starting catcher at the MLB level. 3/7 - SS Kolby Branch 22yo out of University of Georgia. Drafted as a SS but the Pirates see him as a 2B/3B with the potential to play LF. Branch is a solid defender and could improve his play and potentially play SS in the future which would increase his value. The Bucs think they got a steal in the 3rd round and think with the proper coaching and training Kolby could develop into a 5 tool prospect. He does everything well enough that if he stays on schedule and progresses he should have a solid MLB career as a starter or at least a super utility role player. |

Playoff Race
Down to the final series of the season and we are currently tied with St. Luis for the final wild card spot at 81-78. Unfortunately for me I face a 101-58 Braves squad while St. Luis finishes the season vs the 80-79
Cubs. Good news is that the Cubs are a game behind us so they could knock each other out and we sneak in for the final spot. |

2025 Playoff Bound!
We did it! For the first time since 2015 the Pittsburgh Pirates are heading to the MLB postseason. The Pirates finished the season 84-78, 2nd in the division, good enough for the final wild card spot. Pittsburgh will head out to LA and face the NL West champion Dodgers in a 3 game series for the chance to take on the Reds in the NLDS.

October 2nd, 2025
RHP Jared Jones (6-2, 5.24) Vs RHP Shohei Ohtani (4-3, 3.96) Dodgers win the game 7-4 and take the series 2-1. All in all it was a good 1st season with the Pirates and plenty of building blocks to build around and get back into the post season next year. |

2026 Starting Rotation
SP1 - 23yo RHP Paul Skenes entering his 3rd season with Pittsburgh and overall. Coming off back to back All-Star seasons Skenes looks to get even better and continue dominating batters at the major league level. If he can keep the ball in the park look for him to improve on his numbers and compete for the NL Cy Young.
SP2 - 24yo RHP Jared Jones entering his 2nd season with Pittsburgh and overall. Had a late start to his season and just never got it all together as he finished with a 5.24 ERA in 67 IP. With a full spring under his belly and fully stretched out look for Jones to be a key contributor and help the Pirates get back into the playoffs and build on last seasons early wild card exit. SP3 - 27yo RHP Hunter Brown entering his 2nd season with Pittsburgh and 5th overall. Hunter joined us via trade with Houston and has been an integral part of our rotation as he churned out a 3.99 ERA in 137.2 IP. Would like to see him be more efficient and go deeper into games. SP4 - 26yo RHP Braxton Ashcraft entering his 2nd season with Pittsburgh and overall. Braxton has a solid rookie campaign sporting a 3.56 ERA in 164.1 IP. SP5 - 23yo rookie RHP Bubba Chandler. He had a little taste late last September playing and starting in 4 games compiling 23 innings with a 1.96 ERA. If he can continue where he left off there’s a chance we may own the best starting rotation in baseball. |

2026 Bullpen
CL - 34yo RHP Brock Stewart entering his 2nd season with Pittsburgh and 8th overall. Brock was acquired in early June via trade with Minnesota and put up monster numbers for us. He finished the year for us with a 2.16 ERA and 22 saves. With a possible better rotation and a more potent lineup, expect Brock to get ample save opportunities.
SU/CL - 31yo RHP Ryan Helsley entering his 2nd season with Pittsburgh and 8th overall. Ryan was acquired from the Cardinals before the season began with the expectation of being the primary closer. Unfortunately the season didn’t go exactly as planned for Helsley as he finished with a sub par ERA of 4.56. Ryan will look to regain his form that made him the 2024 NL Reliever of the year. SU - 29yo LHP Caleb Ferguson entering his 2nd season with Pittsburgh and 8th overall. Caleb performed very well working out of the bullpen and put up a good 3.24 ERA. Can get into trouble with walks and hits given up but overall very solid and will be a key piece coming out of the bullpen. RP - 31yo RHP David Bednar entering his 6th season with Pittsburgh and 8th overall. Bednar had himself a nice bounce back season as he finished with a respectable 3.56 ERA. Not dominant as he once was but still more than capable and will be looked as the primary arm out of the bullpen. RP - 32yo RHP Yennier Cano entering his 2nd season with Pittsburgh and 5th overall. Cano was having himself a solid 2025 campaign until an injury cut it short. He’s back, healthy, and ready to build on last seasons success and be a key part of playoff hopefully squad. RP - 30yo RHP Colin Holderman entering his 5th season with Pittsburgh and 5th overall. Colin will need to improve on his 4.59 ERA from a year ago if he wants to find himself pitching in crucial situations. RP/Mop - 27yo RHP Carmen Mlodzinski entering his 4th season with Pittsburgh and overall. Carmen had a strong and rather surprising 2025 campaign. He finished with a 2.94 ERA and was even used as a closer on a few occasions. RP/Mop - 29yo RHP Hunter Stratton entering his 4th season with Pittsburgh and overall. Hunter spent a majority of the 2025 season in AAA only make a brief stay with the Pirates. In the small sample size he performed well but based off his AAA numbers he will need to improve or find himself optioned back down. |

1 - 29yo RF Kyle Tucker entering his 1st season with Pittsburgh and 9th overall. Tucker was our big off season splash and that means we are in win now mode as we try and capitalize on our strong pitching and an under estimated lineup. We struggled with the long ball last year and with Tucker’s plus power and 30 HR a year ago we look to remedy that issue. Not the best year out of Tucker last year so hopefully we get the Houston version and not the Cub variant, although still very much a good player.
2 - 25yo C/DH Endy Rodriguez entering his 2nd season with Pittsburgh and overall. Endy has some MLB action back in 2023 and then suffered a major injury to miss most of 2024. Last year he spent the whole season in AAA putting up fantastic numbers and was added to the 40 man roster to protect from the rule 5 draft. Rodriguez in time will develop into our #1 catcher and should be solid both defensively and offensively. 3 - 27yo 1B Oneil Cruz entering his 6th season with Pittsburgh and overall. Although he won a Gold Glove as a RF he will sede the RF job to Tucker and man the cold corner. Cruz has all the tools to play a more coveted position he just isn’t consistent enough. His bat is good enough to keep him in the lineup even as he ages but it’s his legs that make him one of the best in the league as he led all of baseball with 68 stolen bases last season. 4 - 28yo rookie CF Matt Gorski. Bit old for a typical rookie but Matt is a late bloomer. He had a little taste last year but performed poorly and saw himself spend most of his time in AAA. If he can find a way to draw more walks and strikeout less he has the power to be a difference maker in the lineup. Luckily for him he can play very good defense and potentially get himself a Gold Glove. If he gets on base he is extremely dangerous. Swiped 9 bases for Pittsburgh without getting caught once in 34 games last year. 5 - 27yo LF Jack Suwinski entering his 5th season with Pittsburgh and overall. Jack has the power to be a major difference maker offensively but he strikes out at a high rate. Despite only getting on base 31.2% of the time he still managed to swipe 56 bags in 116 games. With a little more discipline he can be a huge contributor and put us over the top. 6 - 32yo SS Dansby Swanson entering his 1st season with Pittsburgh and 11th overall. Swanson was part of a major trade right before the season started in an effort to dump salary and get more power out of our SS without sacrificing defense. His bat is tick worse than it once was but defensively he can still get it done at a high level. 7 - 25yo 3B Jack Brannigan entering his 2nd season with Pittsburgh and overall. Jack was a surprise call up last year but performed well in 74 games belting 12 HR and swiping 41 bags en route to a .268/.358/.452 slash line. 8 - 25yo 2B Oswald Peraza entering his 2nd season with Pittsburgh and 5th overall. Claimed on waivers from the Yankees in early April Peraza saw mixed results. He’s talented defensively and a threat on the basepaths so a little more consistency from the bat and he can be a solid everyday player. 9 - 29yo C Joey Bart entering his 3rd season with Pittsburgh and 7th overall. Bart had a strong 2025 campaign and earned an All-Star appearance for his efforts. He worked on his defense over the off season and looks to be even better this year. Even if the offense reverts slightly he can make it up with his leadership skills and defensive ability. Bench - 21yo rookie CF/LF Termarr Johnson. Saw a September call up last year and held his own but nothing spectacular. We do want to get him at bats so look for him to play semi regularly as he sees most his action at LF. Extremely young considering he was drafted out of high school not even 5 years ago so more developing is needed to get his bat in an everyday role. Defense needs more as he’s mostly just ok but not great. Luckily for him he’s young and can develop without any pressure. |

2026 Top Prospects
#14 - 17yo LHP Robert Estrada out of the Dominican Republic. Robert is a pleasant surprise and could potentially be a diamond in the rough as our scout found him on a trip in early December or 2025. Right now he grades out to be potentially a future ace although right now extremely raw. He has nasty stuff and worst case scenario ends up as a closer and a dominant one for a decade plus.
#27 - 17yo 3B Anton Barros the major signing of our 2026 IFA period. His hit and power tools will be the reason he makes it to the MLB, although his defense at 3B looks to be at a plus level with room to grow considering he’s only 17. He works hard and has a good baseball IQ and if he can stay focused he can be an All-Star at 3B for many years and walk away with multiple Silver Slugger awards. #34 - 21yo LHP Ben Jacobs last years number 6 pick saw action at A+ but didn’t do well and will begin the 2026 campaign back at A+. His stock has dropped some even though the individual pitches all still looked good with a 4 pitch mix and none graded worse than plus. As of now he looks like a solid 3/4 starter. #37 - 19yo 2B Konnor Griffin probably the best prospect in the Pirate organization. Still boasts the potential to be a 5 tool player although is showing signs of swing and miss in his game. Made it to low A last season but a bit overwhelmed and didn’t even hit .200 so it’s back to A ball and this will be his first year of full season ball. #61 - 19yo RHP Myles Upchurch last years 2nd round pick, 50th overall. Didn’t see any action and will have his first taste of pro ball this year at the FCL. Hopefully he can improve mightily as right now he’s projected to be a number 5 starter/bullpen option. All three of his offerings grade above average but overall he’s nothing spectacular but is still extremely young and will be just 19 the entire season. |
