Popularity of Standard vs Customization vs Historical etc.?

I can definitely see the appeal of each one depending on your mood.

Personally I'm somewhere between standard and historical - I like having real players and teams but might fast forward a few years to get past some of the early franchise hole-filling phases. Being able to mix in my own tweaks is a bonus too.

Might have to try some of the challenges others have mentioned like focusing on a particular player's career. Sounds like a cool way to mix it up beyond just simming seasons. Always cool discussion on here about the different FHM playing styles.

Only play Historical mode and Historical Challenges, was born in the 80s so 90s and 00s are Nostalgic for me.

Also don't like playing with fictional players for the same reasons as been said few post above!

I do love the historical mode and historical challenges, but also spend a lot of time in custom games once I have one set up to play. The standard mode is also fun for getting to experience the full scope of the hockey world though. But the customization options and making your own world is what I've always loved about FHM and OOTP both.

I play only Standard currently, but I did a couple of the Historical Challenges. Haven't tried the regular Historical mode yet, but I'd like to give it a try soon-ish. No interest in custom leagues.
