Clutch,

Right now, you are dealing with people who are regulars to the .400 message board. The attitude you are giving us makes your replutation worst and worst, to the point where we do have to compare you with Tusso. If you are him, or not, My opinion on you is not a good one. It might be because your attitude towards others.

Just think about it a little bit. You steal the CBL's web site code, which is illegal. This is something that isn't uncommen in online leagues, but because of the broad community we are, we get information rather quickly.

Nirvana,

As for the code, unless it was copyrighted, it is not illegal. Just because it has that little copyright logo at the bottom does not mean it is copyrighted. I also guess that a lot of leagues have stolen at least a bit of code from another website. I know Cooley has, I know livnlegend has, I know I have, and I know many other commishes have. I find editing other sites code is one of the best ways to get better at writing HTML. Keep in mind, I always change the code myself, but looking at other peoples code does help. Also, 90% of leagues build their websites by trying to copy another websites design only with slight differences. Since theres 1 trillion sites out there, an original design is just about impossible. Just trying to clear up a few of your misconceptions.

Eagle, look at it like this. Someone, created a league site with their own time. Maybe they took days, weeks, maybe even months. For someone to take their design without consent is wrong. Doesn't always mean it's illegal. I think It is good just to have a aknoledgement for the person/people who created the site. I see your point that people take other designs and call it their own. I just think the people who create the original should get some kind of consideration.

Just my .02

I dont reallyagree with ripping off whole sites. I do however have no problem with people who take elements of other websites and edit them. So basically your learning to get the desired result , but since you edit it is still your own work. For a lot of people, I really dont see how you learn otherwise. I definitely dont think permission is needed to use a similiar design.

May need to come this board more frequenly. I wrote down the CBL code and really don't care if anyone steals, borrows, edits or even marries it. Moreover, I've always enjoyed seeing people using my codes and giving them a different approach. Certainly, it's always nice to ask, but I see no trouble here other than lack of style.

Actually, EagleEye, that logo at the bottom DOES give you copyright protection. Most people dont' realize this, but you don't have to register a copyright to have it protected. You simply need to claim it and have proof that it was yours first. Registering gives you that proof and that is all it does.

Just clarifying one tiny misconception.... everything you've said here is right phesta, except for one detail. Registering gives two things: (1) a presumption of copyright validity, and (2) the right to sue over the copyright. Thus, a website is protected by copyright, but if it's not registered you don't have the right to sue. If someone really wanted to stop others from copying their material, they could register the site and then sue.

Other than that, I've got nothing to say except that it seems that many of you are really agressively attacking this new guy.... especially Total Nirvana. I think that unless someone gives some STRONG indication that they are really some alias, they should get the benefit of the doubt.

Thanks, Eck

I appreciate the message...
and just 2 points for those of you following this thread at all anymore...

1) It's not my league. I was simply doing a favor for 'mlbpleague' in trying to advertise his new league for 3 more owners before we could start. I felt obligated since I had signed up for the league as well and was looking forward to getting it started as well...

2) Not my league, therefore not my site.. I had nothing to do with the development or design of this site. Thus, I have NO Clue as to why the 'veterans' are giving me a hard time.

I certainly hope this is the end to a long, unnecessary, and petty thread...

The only reasons why It seems that I'm attacking him is because of the attitude that he showed when being questioned about his site. Does he have the right? Yeah. But if he does, it just opens up clues that he could be just another alias. Is he a alias? We don't know. If it happends that he isn't an alias, am I going to apologize? Yeah

Just .02 more cents added to the bank.

Huh? When did this happen? I have never "stolen" anyone's code or web design. For you to state that is pretty harsh.
I did complain when Tusso took large elements of the USBA and used them on his site (while he claimed he created it from scratch).
Fot you to say you "know" I have done the same is pretty outrageous and I hope you come correct and apologize.

I had been out late friday night and was still up when I posted that message and was very tired. Again, I am sorry for using the wrong words

Again, I have to ask what the hell you are talking about. Why would you decide to say along the lines "everyone does it, even LivnLegend and Cooley"? You apologized for your grievous error but then say it was just the wrong words (we "used" elements, not "stole" them) What's the difference?
How about from now on you let me speak for myself whether I did or did not "steal", "borrow", or "use" other people's web site code.
