I'm honestly pretty tired of this common response to anyone that suggests anti-cheat measures. It's lazy and unproductive. Yeah let me just leave my house unlocked while I'm away because a determined thief would find a way break in...

Key words in your example, friends and board games.

Your example is completely irrelevant in the discussion of cheating in online games between complete strangers.

I'm honestly pretty tired of the common response that anyone who doesn't understand the need for flawed and unhelpful 'anti-cheat measures' doesn't care about cheating. Yeah, let me just go around forcing everyone in my pickup softball league to pee in a cup because we can't possibly play a game together if it's remotely possible that maybe someone who we don't trust but decide to keep playing softball with might be cheating...

Given that I was talking about playing online board games with people I only know online, then...seems pretty on-point to me.

I guess I'm not winning the hearts and minds of the ignorant today. Have a nice day.

It's just the one guy out of 8 people who've chimed in. His zealotry against a commish change log just makes him seem like a mob.

Edit: looks like he singlehandedly turned the thread into something that nobody wants to be a part of. Congrats to him. Guessing he runs a league or two.

I've been a commish for the last 10 yrs in ootp and in the 10 years before that with another Sim.

I don't run a team in my league so I'd like to think the odds of me cheating are way less than someone managing a team. But, even that said, I'd love a change log that attaches to a team file somehow. Something where, when I upload a file that is when the log gets sent in the team emails or something.

A commish in their own league has advantages, even if they don't want them. But this isn't a paid job so you gotta find the ones you like and trust and put your faith in them.

I am in a big minority of commish's that don't run a team in my league. I play in another league so I have my GM fun there.

I with the change log, like the idea of being able to prove I didn't cheat if anyone were to ever question it.

I would say though, if you're in a league where you can't trust the commish, don't enjoy it, or flat out think they are cheating...just leave the league.

Nothing else is going to happen if you prove they cheated. What's the end goal? Say I told you so, and now a bunch others have no league to play in?

You're a volunteer player. They are a volunteer commish. Just find a new league that works for you.
