I know I am going to be the contrarian in this thread, but I have always just turned off rainouts. It's not really something that interests me in the sim and so my leagues have sunny days, every day! :P

Remember when PT first launched and they said that there would be a seperate team working on it and that no resources would be taken away from the main game? I wonder if that is still true or not.

Either way, I don't think it would have taken 3+ weeks for a patch in the OOTP 18 days, nor that there would be something that would need so many fixes in a single patch either.

Do you edit the weather file? I never use rainouts, but I still have my fair share of rain delays.

No, I still do get rain delays.

Rainouts can cause scheduling & roster problems, so to me they are not worth the trouble for the tiny extra realism they provide. Of course this is coming from someone who grew up watching games in the Astrodome!

In an older version I encountered a situation where it appeared all rain outs were made up. At that point I turned them off.

The fact there is a thread about it AND the developers have acknowledged they're getting complaints about the rain frequency/duration is all the evidence needed for this particular argument - it's messing up the fun of the GAME.
This is what the forum has turned into...and this is the "new" type of OOTP user. This is why myself and many others are now very disengaged with this project. What is worse to me, is that these people are now being catered to.

From the manual for Gary Grigsby's Pacific War

"This greatly exaggerates the Japanese chances for victory, but in this case I sacrificed some realism to improve the game."

If being around for every version since 2007 is "new" well, okay, Champ.

As far as being "catered to" - yes. Their game is messed up and they should get around to fixing it much quicker than they have. Pretty reasonable request by any metric.

I would say that the verdict is clear in the Kafkaesque dialog here:

Customer: Why has there still not been a fix for this issue even a full month after the product was released for sale?

Developer: Because we are busy trying to deal with all of the issues customers have found within only one month of the release of the product.

Not my place to tell people how to spend their money; just recognize the basic business model you validate with your purchase.

I am speaking more to the type of today's customer base compared to years' past.

Hearing all these issues with OOTP24 makes me glad I decided to wait this year. I personally feel like the single player aspect has been going downhill for a few years now.

I don't get this at all. I don't pay attention to PT but exclusively play OOTP single-player.

It's literally the same game every year, with improvements. OOTP23 was pretty buggy on release but 24 has been pretty good.

That said, a game as complex as OOTP is always going to have bugs that need to be worked out. There's no way to avoid that. But I can't fathom the constant negativity for a game that I have spent thousands upon thousands of hours playing that I see getting better every release.

Is this one on the known issues list?

When you hit Play Game and bring up the preview screen, if you cancel the game, then try to go back into the game by hitting Play Game again, the weather seed is randomized again, and your game can get rained out, even though the teams were ready to play the first time.

That random seed shouldn't change in that instance. Issue has gotten me a couple times when I see that, oh I wanted to change the depth chart and lineup vs LHP or whatever, go back to change it, then try to go back to the game, and see that OOTP decided to cancel our game.

(This issue isn't new to OOTP 24, it's been around)

The only thing I will say, and I will do so gently, is that some of us are very spoiled by what we have experienced here with OOTPD over the years.

One month since a patch? I have been on forums in which the developers don't even talk to the community and could take many months to fix egregious bugs, if at all. OOTPD has earned my trust and my indulgence because the difference between them and the other developers that I have in mind is like night and day.
