I hope this doesn't turn into another border war. U.S. vs Canada.

If it does, I think we a$$hole Americans could kick all the Canadian 'Jacque-offs" asses easily.

I don't recall. Something about that god-awful sport of hockey.

I thought it was about someone who was starting a 900 number for psychic readings.

GR, that's right, it was DD trying to advertise himself as the replacement to fill the void left by Miss Cleo's departure.

So let me get this straight.... hockey is not a sport, but...

- football, in which players run at each other the whole game is?

- baseball, in which players are phisically active for about 10 mins. a game is?

- horse racing, in which a person rides a horse in circles is?

- car racing, in which a person drives a car around in circles is?

Don't get me wrong... I love baseball, and I enjoy football. But there's no need to hate on certain sports. I guess some people need to hate things to feel important .

livn legend-certainly not directly lifted? are you sure?

this is a partial transcript of "sports" from the album and hbo special playin with your head, which i think came out in 1986...

"hockey comes to mind, people think hockey is a sport. hockey is not a sport. hockey is three activities going on at the same time; ice skating, playing with a puck, and beating the **** out of somebody. now, if these guys were intelligent at all they would do these things one at a time-first you go ice skating, then you play with the puck, then you go to the bar and beat the **** out of somebody. the day would last a lot longer and these guys would have a whole lot more fun. tell you another reason hockey is not a sport, it's not played with a ball. anything that isn't played with a ball can't be a sport...these are my rules, i make them up. hockey is played with a puck. what is a puck? i never even heard of a puck outside of hockey. have you ever heard of a puck? the only other place you find a puck is in the urinal to control the smell in the bathroom. and as far as i'm concerned, any game where the main object is something that came out of a urinal is definitely not a sport."

i tried to find an audio link to it, but i couldn't. i'm sure you could find the file on kazaa. do you want to give proper credit now?

Nice job hamonrye. Not sure why you are coming after me. I guess you have an ace to grind.
When Eckstein said hockey combined the worst elements of sports I just broke it down into the three elements that Eck alluded to. The fact that Carlin did it similarly 18 years ago means little to the thread that Eck and I were contributing to. Like I stated earlier, I am sure elements of Carlin's many rants are in the back of my mind along with a million other jokes, one-liners, and phrases from many sources that I have used and will use on this message board that will influence what I say or type. If you want to help Carlin's lawyers sue me, let me know. Otherwise, feel free to either butt the hell out or join in on the fun.

PS: You didn't even give me credit for the "sequined shirt" comment.

butt the hell out? i'm not "coming after you", i have no axe to grind, you just sounded like you were taking credit for someone else's material. i didn't know you were so sensitive, i'm deeply sorry.

I gave a second suggestion: to join in on the fun. I come here to be entertained and maybe learn something once in awhile. I don't worry about whether board members footnote their posts and credit their sources of inspiration.

The fact that you would post twice, ask for "due" credit, and do an internet search and a kazaa search for some material that sounds similar to what I posted would lead me to believe you were "coming after me."
My suggestion would be to let it go rather than try and show someone up.

first of all, i have the album playin with your head, i transcribed it myself, no internet search needed, the whole thing took a minute, the kazaa suggestion was for if you had any doubts about my honesty. secondly, i already apologized for butting in, i'll know better next time than to post in a thread you're involved in. good enough?

Dude, lighten up. As much as it pains me to say it, LL is one of the better posters around here. I'm sure if you ask him nicely, he'll provide a full bibliography for all his posts in the future.
