Definitely on the extra innings when you can't afford it -- either because your bullpen is gassed in the game, or because real-life you has to be somewhere else.
Here's another one: It seems to me that if I consider pinch-hitting for a pitcher and decide to let him hit, he usually gets on. If I could hypnotize myself to seriously consider it all of the time, I think my pitchers would hit about .600. |

As to the pitching doing better after a mound visit. Happens all the time. But I've also come to learn, if the pitcher gives an answer that indicates he is out of gas or even worse a "get the hell off my mound" it's time to get him out of there. |
