I just scrapped a league I ran for over 200 years... loved it, but wanted something new.

I had an idea, or read it on here (scary that I cannot remember which), to sim the first 100 seasons... that would be great... gives you history, depth and records... then you can take over a team, make an expansion team or whatever and go from there.

What I like to do, also, is every 3-4 years I'll add a few major league players from the past or current. It's fun racking your brain for obscure players, fav players, stars or role players (my fav is Freddy Patek and Bo Jackson) and import them as free agents or whatever... as a house rule, I try not to sign them unless it is someone like Patek - an average player - if that...

I play and Sim... prob play 15-25 games a year plus all post season games. I usually average 1-1.5 seasons per day and I have a very good feel for all good players and feel very connected to the league. I also sim only 1 week at a time and once a month look over the news and such.

I had a similar "problem" long ago. I got really attached to a league and played out every game for many seasons (a few years of real time). Then one day my league file got corrupted and I didn't have a backup (I learned my lesson after that). Anyway, I was upset that my league couldn't continue, but at the same time I was actually very excited because it forced me to start a new league -- something I wouldn't have been able to bring myself to do otherwise.

I have created two fictional leagues with the same format. They are in a sense "competing" leagues for me. I try to think of backstories that will link the leagues, and now with Pierre's editor I can switch players between leagues.

Edit names and create player profiles. That is what I did and it worked out great.

Here are some PP's if you are interested in an example.
