also what im thinking on diffrent players different results is do you think gehrig would have had that many rbis without ruth in front of him, and yes somebody else might have just as many rbis cause they are a good batter but what if ruth is batting in front of the lowest rbi producing starter.
A few more situations like that and not only are your rbis out of whack but so are runs and then the other teams era goes down lowering the league avg like a domino effect. I dont think you can just plug the deadball league totals into 1995 and have them work cause you gotta take into account rotations and hit & run, pitcher endrance, etc. But hey if you can do it thats great but i just think theres too many variables to get a normalization of an era that will work in another era. What might work better is if Markus could progrm the game where you could have the players ratings changed to an era. Cause a 3.50 era in 1905 is horrible but in the modern era its pretty good. I think a game called Old time Baseball did this. If i still have it i might see what totals they use. But with ratings staying the same i dont know if changing league totals will work. BaseballMan while I didnt get to test my theory on league numbers being universal. It got me thinking back for version 2 there was a person on these boards who released a spreadsheet with adjusted league totals that we could use in OOTP2 and it gave us decent results.
When OOTP3 came allong some one I think adjusted them to work with Version 3. My memory Isnt the greatest but maybe someone who used this spreadsheet can tell us If the league results useing it were close to the real league results. |

yes thats who It was. Been so long I forgot Lee's name.
Didnt that spreadsheet do exactly what I'm refering to? At least In V2 and somewhat for V3. Or were the stats made from useing the numbers from that spreadsheet not that close to the original numbers? Been so long since I seen the spreadsheet sorry I have more questions than answers.

yeah been a long time too since i read it.
It was pretty good though. I may still have on file somewhere but i thought historiccally ootp might still have it. Seems like Lee would still be around. I have just entered all the players for 1876. I am now working on fielding positions. Know where i can find positions for outfielders from 1876-1903. I decided to play ootp 2 ways one i take a team in 1876, use real players (fictional doesnt do much for me and just because its Ruth or Bonds doesnt mean the guy will develop). My other one i am importing players indivually from 1876 to when i can import historically leagues. I am gonna go by the book of baseball. I will use real trade dates. With no date i will trade the players after their team has played as many games for which he was historically a part of that season whether he actually plays the same or not. I will put in managers and ballparks with names and factors each year. Not so sure about fences and distance cause from what i understand all that does is tell you whether a guy hit a 465ft homer or 375 ft homer. I will keep career records myself. Its the only way cause after a while its not the real 27 yankees but how ever gehrig and others developed. Not to say thats bad but i wanna replay history and see if the 06 cubs get it right this time. People may think it will be exactly the same so why bother but i think theyre wrong cause injurys will effect the outcome. I am also gonna try and come up with a point system for hall of fame using careers stats with bonus points for all-star appearances, cy young awards etc so a player has to do more than hit hit 500 homers. Fielding will count too. I will keep a record of all-star games and playoff stats. Sounds like a lot of work but hey the more work the more i enjoy simming a season instead of just simming in 20 secs.I will enter a players yearly stats after each season but only when his career is over will i put it in the all-time leaders file. Wish the ootp career would allow you to use replay in a career but oh well. |

quote:Could you elaborate on how you will do that? I've always wanted to be able to start with one league, then add a second one later on, but didn't know of a good way to do that. The one way I know of, to create a two league setup but leave the second league empty of teams until needed, doesn't work. In OOTP3, the game will crash after simming the first month, and it proved impossible to go any further. In OOTP4 the game will sim the regular season fine but it crashes when hitting the post-season, and again, it will not go any further. So, if you've found a way to get a second league in, I'd really like to know how you've managed it...

quote:It was a matter of proceeding to the year you want to expand to two leagues. Then create a new league in that year with two leagues. (If you want it to be the same name as the old one, you have to move the old league out of the OOTP folder before doing this) Then go to edit team structure and set it up so the number of teams is the same as you currently have in the other league. You should also get through the hiring coaches phase, snd exit the game right before the fantasy draft starts. Exit the game. and copy all the files from the old league folder to the new league folder except for league.dat and records.dat. Then when you go back into the game with the new league, there should now be two leagues set up and all the current teams and players should still be set up. You can then move the teams around and add new teams as you want. You would also need to rename the divisions and awards. Some problems with doing it this way: 1. The record book does not copy correctly so I manually reentered the records from the old file. 2. You have to use the "initial fantasy draft" as your rookie draft in the year you start with, and there won't be any spring training that year. I hope this expanation isn't too confusing. And ALWAYS be sure to have a backup of the original league before doing any of this. [ 04-21-2002, 06:49 PM: Message edited by: Pyroman ] |

Ahhh, that's the other way I had thought might work... starting the new file with two leagues and then "importing" the teams & data from the older one league file.
Never actually got around to trying it out though. Excellent! Thanks for the explanation!! |
