It feels very odd to not see Thank You button anymore but I'm ok with it being gone to keep the forum free of hackers.

Given that it appears there is not a update to the feature currently available that removes the vulnerability, we don't necessarily envision being able to reactivate the feature any time soon, unless there is an update to the forum software that comes along

We know this isn't a change for the better and lots of you will be very sad to see the feature go (myself first of all, as I was one of the most prolific thankers of posts in the community) but it's unfortunately a necessary evil, at least for the time being.

If you like someone's post and agree with it, please feel free just to create a short response now and tell them.

Thanks so much for understanding!
Would it be possible to upgrade the forums to use Xeno Forum or something similar instead of VBulletin? They have better features for stuff like that.

Yeah, I would think that's very likely something we'll look at in the future when things slow down a little bit more.

Cool, I think it would definitely be worth it if the forums are something which OOTP want to keep using in the way they currently do.

Hopefully such an upgrade would also improve matters that I discussed in this thread.

Heh, here is another drawback of not having it. Who the heck are you thanking? Me? If so, you're welcome!

It's not even been three weeks and already I am getting adjusted to not having "Thanks" on this forum. I have never been into post count, but I was into thanks accumulation to the point where I would be looking for them, and that wasn't right.

Also, I had noticed a significant difference between my thanks earned and thanks my bestowed, which did not reflect well on me in my own eyes. I looked chintzy, unappreciative, and obtuse.

So I was beginning to click that button whenever and wherever I could, for stuff that really wasn't that extraordinary. "Thanks inflation?" Maybe.

Anyway, my point is, "Thanks" being gone is not all that bad. One less distraction.

That's funny- I was the opposite. I thanked a lot and didn't get nearly as much love in return.
I tried not to notice it very often, but sometimes, I'll admit, it did make me wonder if I just really never had anything interesting to say here and yet kept saying it regardless.

Like in this very post. I'll never know how few people (likely none) would have thanked it, so now I don't have to let it bother me.

I'm okay. Really, my self-worth isn't completely dependent upon my interactions here. (Just mostly. )

Tell me about it When I started posting dynasty reports I took no ‘thanks’ as no one reading it, heh. So probably for the best

I miss it. The regular thanks under Raccoons posts gave me all the validation I usually got for anything, and for the Raccoons in particular assured me that it wasn't ALL for the bucket.

Yep, I agree. The thanks was a great tool to not clutter a thread, but still giving it a thumbs up. I really really hope they figure a way to work it back in.

Well, despite what I said about it above, that I am getting used to not having it, I would also welcome it back.

I was going to make a proviso that only if the previous thanks counts were restored would I be interested, but on second thought, maybe not. Why not start with a clean slate? We would all be starting from scratch, and it's not a contest after all.

Been away for a bit so only saw this recently, but I agree too. A little more thread clutter wouldn't go amiss, as even a tiny bit of validation goes a long way.
