Taxi squad won't be in the update (the real taxi squad players will be on the starting rosters, though.) The amount of extra coding to implement it just wouldn't make sense for something that'll disappear after the first season (not to mention it'd mean having to delay the update to get it done.)

What we're testing right now for the optional "real" 20-21 start is a special structure/format/schedule for those leagues that had one (including total cancellation for EIHL/NIHL/LNAH/ALAH), followed by reversion to the normal schedule, league structure, and playoff format for 21-22.

There are a few other accomodations we had to make:

-in some cases, like the NHL, we had to push the start date forward by several weeks to make sure the playoffs end by July 1, since the game switches to a new season at that point
-some leagues (e.g. the ECHL and DEL) have only announced a partial schedule so far, so in the game the remainder is either generated (DEL) or repeats the announced schedule (ECHL) to get the proper length
-other leagues haven't announced full details (WHL, AHL, SPHL) so we've filled in the remainder with what we think they're likely to do, and others (OHL, FPHL) haven't said anything official yet, so we just made best guesses on what equivalent leagues are doing

We'll continue testing for a few more days and hope to get the update out early next week.

So I am clear, can we use the "opening night" database with updates through 1/13 with the 82-game schedule that exists now or is it only available for the 56-game schedule you are adding in the update?

Both, the "real" option will be separate from database selection when you begin a new game (see screenshot.) Then, once we start doing a separate "current" version of the database, you'll also be able to start a new standard game with either the full or real schedules as well. So 2 starting options for standard games after this update, eventually becoming 4.

If I select the real schedule, will it re-set back to an 82 game regular season and pre-covid divisions for the 2021-2022 season?

Yes, it all reverts to normal for 21-22.

Going to need another couple of days for the update, we had to fix a few things with the first attempt and then ran into a stability issue today.
