Ok

So, I wasn't really trying to decide between the two players.

This is in a 3-year recalc league and Player A is Jim Thome (who goes on to have a pretty good career) and Player B is Scott Cooper (who maybe people have heard of). C was a bit of a red herring by the name of BJ Surhoff.

I was trying to get a third baseman for my team and was trying to decide how I'd see these two players in the moment (without benefit of knowing the "future". I was going through most of the gyrations that the posters here came up with. And decided I would have seen them as about equal.

Wanted to see how other people saw the situation. And, it's always interesting to see how differently people think.

Thanks for participating.
And congrats to those, ALB and, barely, Rudel, who picked the Hall of Famer.

Yeah it was pretty clear Thome wasn't filled out or he'd have crushed the other 2. Though he probably wouldn't have stayed at 3B for too long haha.

That was actually fun to learn who those players were. I absolutely remember Scott Cooper! Unfortunately, I have lived in the heart of Red Sox Nation for most of my life. I don't remember a lot about him, but as soon as I saw the name and the fact you were talking about a 3B, a couple of lightbulbs went off in my head attic.

I might be remembering this incorrectly, but I want to say that he wasn't a terrible ballplayer. Yet, I think because the Red Sox had Wade Boggs at 3B, his future there was uncertain. Hmmm...I don't think he played much once he was off of Boston and to be honest, I don't know if he was traded or sent back down to the minors. Whatever it was, the name Scott Cooper vanished almost as quickly as it appeared.

When it comes to Jim Thome...I completely forgot that he played 3B at some point.

Cooper was an All-Star '93 and '94 before being shipped out to the Cardinals. Didn't really do much after that.

An All-Star?! How the heck could I forget that. Well, I know how... I have permanent brain damage, which totally sucks -- but, like I said, living in Massachusetts is the belly of the Red Sox beast...and did think he was good.

Hey...If he was getting All-Star recognition at 3B, what the heck was Wade Boggs doing in 93 & 94?

OMG. Well...that's embarrassing. For some reason, I feel like he wasn't on the Yankees until 1995. Wow. What a fan I am... Oh, man...I just pulled up his baseball-reference page. I would have bet money that he was on the Yankees 1998 Championship team.

Thank you for setting that straight. Can't I just blame my brain injury on that goof up?
