Maybe you were over performing Pythagorean and it finally caught up to you in September.

Thank you Brad K! Any chance I can still check that in the statistics? The playoffs are over but I'm still in the same year. Or was that something I had to monitor during the season?

I don't know if it works post season. See if you can access the standings for a date in August. Button on the right just above the standings listing.

If you can then see if the expanded button works for that date. If it does you will see actual and expected standings.

Interesting thing on OVR, sometimes when I look at contact etc I don't agree. An interestingly sometimes one part of AI appears not to agree with the other.

Last season I has Juan Beniquez rated half a star higher than Tony Armas. But I considered Armas better based on con, pow, etc, so put him in the lineup.

Once in the lineup the AI manager selected Armas to bat cleanup, a very important position in the lineup. But with Beniquez in the lineup the AI manager hits him 7th.

I checked and my Pythagorean was exactly matching my record.

But I really appreciate the suggestion, it is something I learned now and will keep for the future.

At the end I think I have to put this Tigers save aside as I start to feel like in a vicious circle. I get decent players and they get angry because of the team record, they don't put up the numbers like they did a few days ago on the team I got them from. Fans don't come anymore to the games, I don't have money to even extend the lowest of contracts... I feel lost.

The outrages 35 million contract over a hundred years for Miguel Cabrera certainly didn't help me either.

I think I'll just start another save with the Dodgers.

In August or at the end or both?

At the end of the season. There is no option for going back in the extended standings.

Suggest you pick a team from the past that for a decade or two was neither a huge success nor a huge failure, activate historical rookies, disable a bunch of stuff (like morale*) and play it for 10 seasons or more. Then go back and play it again.

*You can tell yourself good/bad morale is already included in their ratings. That's what I do!!! **

** However if your team is really bad players well be more eager to leave under free agency and harder to sign as free agents.

I will try that!

There is one thing I noticed with morale. I tried disabling it but when hovering the mouse over the player in the lineups screen, it still shows the actual morale of the player (happy/angry...) which makes me believe even if you turn it off it affects the players. I might be wrong.

I think that's an error in the hover feature. When I turn moral off I no longer get e mails from players demanding to be traded away from the POS team.

But when you open the editor the morale stats are all there (good and bad, plus and minus) so it might still affect the player performance?

Why? If you turn off injuries the player still has an injury rating.

Good point! Maybe it's just my overall skepticism.

A good way to feel better about players regressing on your team is to go and look at your competitors. I especially like checking their salary obligations page and looking at the previous scouting reports for their top paid players. You'll often see that they were at a high peak of ability when they signed some extension or FA contract, and now they are overpaid since their abilities dropped.

It's even better when it's a guy I traded away at the right time.

I sometimes give a guy a long term estimating I'll get more than I'm paying early and less than I'm paying later. Also is the amount is the same for each year then he's actually being paid less in later years due to salary inflation.

Also to be considered is whether a player sells tickets. If so he's worth a bit more than his performance. I try to move such a player into a backup roll. Not playing as much fans eventually forget how much they like him. And sometimes he retires which doesn't hurt fan interest (I think it should if a player is still quite popular).

Consider Andrew McCutchen. He was traded and Pirate attendance dropped 5000 a game. Its not like the Pirates had a feasible plan to win. They just wanted x WAR for less $. They gave up more in lost gate money.

If a team is going to lose, fans want it to lose with players they know and like. Any doubts, go to youtube and search Marv Throneberry.
