Adding platoon splits?
So if you have access to platoon splits from years prior to 1981, you could add them to the BattingSplits.csv file and generate the appropriate *.odb's?
Scanning the csv files, I don't see a PitchingSplits.csv. |

Spoke too soon. After I sorted BattingSplits.csv by year, I noticed that the records go back to 1930 which would more than cover what I'd want. The question remains...what about the pitching splits? I don't see a csv file for those. |

I just downloaded the .exe files, and when I told my PC to unzip them, my virus protection kicked in. The ODB to CSV file, but not the other one, was found to be not safe and was removed, leaving me with no way to open it.
Any ideas on what to do? I'm just a bit nervous about turning off the software (Norton LifeLock). Is it important for the files to be compressed before they're made available for download? I'd be interested to get access to a non-zipped version and find out what happens if I download that and then try to run it. |

If Norton made it easier for me to override its decision to remove the file, I'd probably still be using it today. But not so, so Norton got the boot. If you use Windows 10, their built in Windows Security is more than safe enough, backed up with a product such as Malwarebytes in case you ever do run into a real problem. Or IMHO, the best product with the least amount of user input required is BitDefender, which has always been my goto recommendation for either a paid or free antivirus program.

Thanks a lot for the advice. I'll disable Norton and maybe leave it turned off.

I'd hate to have something happen to your PC because you don't have adequate virus protection. Good luck and be safe!

On a Windows 10 PC
ODBtoCSV.exe will not run, I double click, command prompt window looks like it comes up for a split second and then disappears. I try to run in administrator mode, same thing happens. If I try to run it through the command prompt itself, this is what I get: |

@LunchBox, I'm not certain, but I think the Windows error msg you are getting is because you don't have the ODBtoCSV.exe file in the folder you are logged into in command prompt.
But you still won't get a result simply running the command ODBtoCSV. You first have to make target folders - the first containing your copied versions of the files from the OOTP\data\stats folder, the 2nd being the target folder you want your csv files created into. If you just run the command ODBtoCSV, you might get a message telling you something like this, I can't remember. From the readme file: 1. Unzip ODBtoCSV.exe and CSVtoODB.exe files anywhere on your computer .i.e "C:\Temp". 2. Copy the historical_database.odb, historical_minor_database.odb, historical_lineups.odb, and historical_transactions.odb files from OOTP's "stats" directory .i.e. "C:\Temp\HistoricODB". - [DON'T WORK WITH THE DEFAULT FILES DIRECTLY!] 3. Create an output folder .i.e. "C:\Temp\HistoricCSV". 4. From the command line, go to directory where you unzipped ODBtoCSV.exe and run it with the input and output folders. If you used the example directorys you would enter: ODBtoCSV.exe "C:\Temp\HistoricODB" "C:\Temp\HistoricCSV" You would then edit the csv files using something like Excel, (you can do it with a text editor, but I find Excel easier as it shows the data in columns. You then use the "save as" command to resave it as a csv, and then follow the readme file and use the CSVtoODB command in the same fashion as above. I have not tried editing the files nor converting back to ODB, as I have fallen down the rabbit hole of "Perfect Team". I was gonna pass on the game entirely this year due to the baseball strike, until the mod came out with the historic best franchises tournament powered by OOTP was run on MLB.com, and I had to check it out for myself. Then the season began in July, and I tried PT for the first time, and found out while I can't really compete with players spending hundreds a week on player cards, I could grind and eventually worked my way upto gold level league. Right now I spend all my time grinding in tournaments, and not going into OOTP proper, especially since football season began, then the holidays. I expect I MIGHT eventually experiment with my historical league across the eras sooner or later, if the tournaments begin drying up in PT, but the different player card versions in PT kind of simulate what I was looking to do historically, and I like the simplicity of the leagues and tournaments without the hassle of playing an online league against live players. If there are still other problems with this ODBtoCSV and CSVtoODB still exist, I hope @DrDoom can address them and help you with your problems, and @Garlon as well, as I have enjoyed some of Garlon's other posts and if several people start editing these stats and can explain better to a relative neophyte as me in both execution and reasoning, maybe we can see great mods happen once again like some of the ones I sampled when I first tried OOTP a few years/versions ago. Have a good day, all.

@tomnov, Thank you for the instructions on how to use the ODB Converter. I am still not certain whether OOTP is game for me, but if it is going to be, the ODB Converter will be a big reason why. Given the "Lunar New Year" sale on OOTP 21 is $4.99 right now, it is certainly worth the cost to try.

Would this tool allow me to create a historical_database.odb with no statistics? I want to be able to import real players into fictional leagues as free agents without bringing over their career histories.

This is easy to fix. Load the CSV as a text file and replace ", " (comma followed by space) with something else. A semi-colon works well. This will also fix Charlie Grover's hometown and Greg Minton's nickname, which have the same problem. Poor Greg Minton; first his 1978 baseball card and now this.
