Moving slow with this one, as I'm watching several games each day. The fictional players seem to be blending in nicely with the real ones. Still wish we had the option to remove the "real" stats line from the player's info boxes. Without recalc, my Tigers have Nate Colbert starting at 1B, but he's hitting 9th in the order, so the AI clearly has little faith. Still remember when Colbert came to the Tigers how excited my friends and I were. He was gone before you could blink an eye though, as his play was flat out dreadful.

Okay, I've made into the 2nd week of May. I've worked my way around to "Eugene Churching" (sim each game to the 6th and watch the rest) every game each day. Of course, this means I have to climb outside my head and not obsess over the game playing to less offense using this method.
So far the biggest surprise has to be the California Angels. I figured them for a middle of the pack or lower finish and as of this moment they're are sitting in first place. What makes this even more surprising is, them doing all this without the services of Mickey Rivers. Rivers went down to an injury in the 1st inning of the season and has yet to return. The top 3 of Tanana, Figueroa and Ryan have been very tough. Meanwhile, Stanton and Bochte have been driving in quite a few runs. I still don't think they have enough to hold off the Royal and maybe not even the A's, but this little run has been fun to watch. For awhile I thought the Rangers would be another surprise team, but then the injuries started coming and coming and coming. Fergie Jenkins is having a relly nice season for the Rangers. At the plate, Toby Harrah, Jeff Burroughs and Jim Spencer are leading the charge. In the AL East the team the has everyone scratching their head is the Detroit Tigers. The real 75 Tigers were abysmal, losing over 100+ games. The OOTP Tigers are off to a 13-12 start. I'm not complaining, just can't figure out what's going on. The race looks like it will come down to the Red Sox and Orioles. The NL East is all jumbled together at this time, with no team showing the gumption to seperate from the pack. Guessing things will come down to the Pirates and Mets in the end. Seaver is dominating for the Mets. The Candy Man is stamping his name on the Rookie of the Year trophy and if anyone else wants it, they might have to pry if from his grasp. Meanwhile the Giants and the Reds are the front runners in the NL West. Of course, I think we all know the favorite here. Even the fictional players that find their way onto the Reds seem to excel. When you see Tony Perez hitting 7th, as a pitcher you must ask "why bother." Meanwhile Ed Halicki was sprinkled with some early season can't touch me dust on the mound for the Giants. The team I can't quite figure out is the Dodgers. They have started the season cold as ice. Such a loaded roster, but they can't seem to right the ship. One thing I love about playing OOTP is the storylines the game creates that might not ever happen in real life, but make simming more interesting. Bob Gibson started the 1975 season on the Cardinals. He made one spot start for the Cardinals late in April and roughly 5 appearances in relief. The Cardinals placed him on waivers. The last place Chicago White Sox claimed him and inserted him directly into the starting rotation. Gibson dominated in his first White Sox start for career victory #249.. Gaylord Perry and Mickey Lolich earned their 200th victories Last edited by David Watts; 08-10-2020 at 01:25 PM. |
