And no, it wouldn't I can't think of much that would have less impact on who I considered my friend than sports team allegiance Quote:
Imagine a person in 1999. Their salary is $59,000 Instead of taking that salary they make a deal with their boss to wait until 2011 and then take $11,900 a year for 25 years. Has this person massively increased their wealth by doing this? What's an $11,900 salary in 2020? Or 2035? If Bonilla wanted gold-plated jet skis he could have, you know, bought them with the $5.9 million. If he'd invested the original 5.9 million and received 8% interest it would have grown to over $100 million by 2035. Of course, he also could have lost all of it by making poor investments (gold-plated jet skis, perhaps) That he took the deferred payments suggests a conservative approach, not a flamboyant one. He, basically (unless the Mets went bankrupt), assured himself 25 nearly $2 million dollar payments. A pretty secure investment, but not a flashy one The Mets have the opposite math. They had no payment from 1999 to 2011. And could invest that money in other player or in financial investments. At the time, they thought they were earning 12-15% on their investments. So, deferring the payments was a easy call for them. Nothing personal. But people should understand stuff if they are going to try and make fun of it. Otherwise, they end up not looking great Quote:
I prefer the nickname "Bobby Bo" (said very quickly so everything blends together. And often following "let's go"). Quote:
And, yeah, Ichiro through 2032 Surprised you didn't know that since it combines your fandom of the Mariners and appreciation for deferred payments. Last edited by CBeisbol; 07-01-2020 at 03:28 PM. |

Also, still funny, maybe even more so after the lengths you’ve gone to here. Side question: Should I short my Kawasaki stock or nah? |

Maybe
Since I have no idea I won't comment on it. Quote:
No, I'm not. We both know someone told you that this thing was funny And you didn't understand it enough to question if or why it it really was funny Quote:

Mods, can we close this thread? It's not in the right forum to begin with, and it has devolved into a pissing match that does nobody any good.

OOTPers who think this is funny: OOTP contracts are broken. I had a player due $5.9 million and I wanted to restructure their contract so I didn't pay them for 10 years. Now they are asking for like $25 million. Something is wrong.

Great call- totally forgot this one!
Not sure why this brings the following to mind, but in my fictional W.P. Kinsella League probably my favorite name was a pitcher who was already a grizzled veteran when the inaugural draft took place: King Beedlecom. He was a very good pitcher but had a brief career due his advanced age at the league's start. Still, I'm always trying to figure out something in the league to name after him.

Well, that's what I get for not looking it up first before posting- turns out the man's name is not spelled Beedlecom (which will continue to be the way I pronounce it) but actually is Bedlecom.
And he favors the chin scruff over the 'stache apparently. (Glad at least he got second life in the league as a bench coach after his playing days.)

King Bedlecom, Part Two
Yup, I've officially hijacked this thread to talk about King Bedlecom. (Because, well, somebody had to, right?
)The man was 41 years old when the W.P. Kinsella League started and in his first season won the Shoeless Joe League Pitcher of the Year award with a 20-6 record, 2.17 ERA, 0.94 WHIP, 7.0 WAR, 7.8 rWAR, etc. (Okay, yes, it was a good year for pitchers in general. Still. 41 years old!) The native of Toronto, Ontario really made his mark in spite of his advanced age. Maybe the Pitcher of the Year award in the SJL should be the King Bedlecom award? He did win the first one ever.
