chazzycat said it best "cookie cutter rosters"
What if there is a salary cap system? Some version of that may balance out who we see. Maybe in each league, certain players are not allowed to be used? |

I'm in that spot where I've done the live missions (mostly) and my teams have less than 20k pp, my teams are bobbing up to a league, getting creamed, going down, and doing well again. No where near the cash to get those high level players. So, I'm just grinding tournaments for packs, but good cards are few and far between.
From playing 19, 20, and now 21, I've only ever pulled one perfect card, so I don't really have a lot of hope there.

I'm not a fan (and thankfully the devs aren't either evidenced by comments they've made in the past) of any roster restrictions that prevents someone from playing a card they either worked hard to acquire, or spent real life money to get. Imagine pulling perfect Nap Lajoie and not being able to play him because he's too strong for the league you're in and you have to see him rot in inactive for 2 months because the rest of your team is unable to pull you out of the lower leagues. I just think we have to live with it for this year and hope the devs are taking notes. They often do ; we don't always get what we want, but many changes are made thanks to the feedback we provide. |

At Perfect Level the teams are as much cookie cutter as at lower levels.
Many historical cards are must haves if you want to compete in Diamond and perfect. The pool of cards that you can use effectively shrinks each level you go up.

As a F2P player, working from home has really helped with the tournament grinding. While working, I have my home computer open to my side. I keep three tournaments going at all times. All I have to do is look over every fifteen minutes or so to quickly see if I have been eliminated from any tourneys and join another one. I’ve been averaging about six packs per day. Yesterday morning I woke up with four packs from the tournaments I entered before bed, pulled a 1946 Johnny Mize and sold it for over 50K. My challenge now it to stay disciplined and keep building points to make serious upgrades to my team one position at a time.

Prior to this game, I never tried running more than one team. I’m doing three now. So I try to keep 9 tournaments going as often as I can. I’m on a particularly bad steak right now. In the past week or so, I’ve opened 33 packs, with only one gold (82 Live) and two Silvers to show for it. 77 Rizzuto was the best of the bunch. I’m just glad I’m not paying real money for these packs! Sent from my iPhone XX Louisville Slugger using Tapacrap

The game certainly comes to a screeching halt after the Live Missions and you get bored with spamming tournaments with limited gratification.
Its tough. Everything is so stingy. I get that it makes pulling a perfect player or high historical diamond out a lot better, but that is such a rarity. The trickle of pp from conventional play is so slow (a typical Live Mission completed team should be solidly Silver - Gold level). I also get that things need to be stingy to a point to try to get people to spend some bucks. I did spend some bucks early on, but there wasn't too much of a long-term payoff (my 2 free teams are going to surpass that one) and I am still kind of in a locked-down state where I can't improve my roster, pp come in about 5-10K a week as I win 70-76 games in Diamond, any realistic collection mission with a worthwhile payoff is well out of reach, and the 10-25 packs a week I can get from tournaments get old when the payoff is almost always 3 Live Irons, 1 Historical Iron, and 2 Live Bronzes. I cant flip my Live Collections to turn my team over because they are so much more valuable than the pp they would fetch in the Auction House. I find myself putting less and less time into creating tournament teams and poring over my teams. Even if I dropped like $50 into my diamond team, I wouldn't really get a great pay-off. Maybe improve marginally at 1 or 2 positions? I really enjoyed this game at its start. I think it is still great and has immense potential. It just seems like action is so limited, mainly due to the stingy way pp are produced, and no real good way to grind out packs and pp. Tournaments are good, but again, it is a trickle, even when you have a good tourney team. Earn a pack here and there, or 200-750pp. Maybe the advent of the OOTP Go app will add some action. Not exactly sure what the answer is. We cant have 500 teams all win Perfect Leagues every week. I understand decisions are made with revenue in mind. There is also an economical balance of pp and a game balance that if put off axis would completely break the program. I do think a lot of issues have to do with how over-powered, easy-to-obtain, and low-value the Live reward cards are.

If you want to play at the highest levels as FTP, it's key to focus hard on generating an income stream. Pretty much the only alternative to grinding tourneys is to work the auction house. So pick one of those and go hard. Last edited by chazzycat; 06-24-2020 at 01:37 PM. |

I think they have to change the price of diamond pack and maybe adding a silver card garanteed in each standard pack or a new kind of pack.
I find it harder to produce PP via achievements, maybe because of the strength of competition with many SE card in Iron, Bronze and silver league.

Definitely having all those live missions released at the beginning made the leagues far too similar but on top of that a number of people were stuck at home due to Covid and were playing tournaments much more often than they would have been able to. That meant a lot more live cards flowing into the market from players winning tournament standard packs and selling off there excess cards. Last year it took me until June to get to Diamond as someone who doesn’t pay for perfect points. I think I got there in April this year.

I was really grinding the tourneys for awhile. Getting possibly around 30 packs per week. There was almost no payoff. I think in several weeks of doing this I pulled 1 starter for my team, a Diamond McGuire who bumped SE Bagwell to DH. I also packed a McCormick early on, who is in my rotation, but kind of a fringe Diamond starter. Maybe that was the error, going for packs instead of pp in the tournaments, but 30K per week in pp isnt that gratifying for all that "work". That really doesnt go that far in terms of upgrades or lateral moves from the SE Live Collections dudes (as far as I know). Now I am back to work though and not that much time for tourneys. I enter some in the AM, sometimes during lunch, after work, and before bed. Down to maybe 10-15 packs a week. Maybe ill start hitting the 750pp gold tourneys. I cant work the auction house. Too concerned Id mess up and go broke, ha. I do think the App will add to this tremendously as it will be possible to grind those tourneys and the auction house on the go.

Yeah, the pack rewards are basically free lottery tickets for someone like me who isn’t purchasing perfect points but the chances of drawing a worthwhile card definitely have dropped since the first few weeks of perfect team. I drew perfect cards (mind you they were live perfects but perfects nonetheless) 6 times in the first three weeks. Two Trouts, two Cole, one Verlander and one Betts. Needless to say I kept a Trout and the Betts cards and sold off the others. I also got a couple of mid 90s historical diamond pitchers and Bill Terry at 1B. No doubt that was one of the reasons I was able to jump fairly quickly up to diamond level. But in the past couple months I haven’t had a perfect draw but had about 4 diamond level historical cards and a couple live diamonds. Granted thats probably about 120 packs or more of tournament winnings and some collection missions to get that so it’s not like I drew those in just 30 packs. I’d really go out and play the lottery if I had done that. I’ve won about 38 packs in tourneys since Saturday and generally only open 20 packs at a time to at least hopefully draw a couple golds and a couple historical silvers. Doesn’t always work that way of course and you end up with mainly bronze and iron.

An FYI not a complaint....If you want to know the going starting rotation in Perfect League 20 or more of the 30 teams have:
Perfect Pedro Perfect Maddux Perfect Hubbell Perfect Koufax Perfect Spahn Variations of that sprinkle in Lefty Grove, Clemens, Kershaw or Randy Johnson perfects. Perfect Lee Smith and Dennis Eckersley closing it out. #PTLifeGoals
