2006 Game Preview / Team Summary
Hwaseong Young Flyers 21-14 2nd in the East North Division
The two older statesmen on the Hwaseong roster are both injured. SP Roman Jaghatspanian is out for 7 months, and at age 41, the South African ace may have pitched his last professioanl pitch. Curacaoan Jared Anthony is out for a week's time. These players do affect the make.up of the roster as Jaghatspanian is the only legitmate top arm in the rotation and Anthony is a highly talented hitter for the Young Flyers. Without Jaghatspanian, the man serving at the top of the rotation is American David Lee. Lee has average make-up with an elite changeup but flat, amateur curve. South African #2 Douggie Windus has nice movement, but offers little else but a four pitch arsenal (cut, curv, slid, split). American Gary Brit doesn't seem to be a long-term professional type and Australian Burt Auty closes out the staff with above-average stuff and movement on his fastball and splitter pitches. Hwaseong is 11th in bullpen ERA, and it is clearly to to the lack of talented arms in the choice of relievers. Closer Yu-Hsui Jiu has top stuff and a fastball but nothing else. Sang-Hun Park lives off of adequate stuff and control and that is about it. 30-year old Venezuelan Pedro Valentin has good stuff and a fastball, but nothing else and certainly not control. Minus Anthony, the Young Flyers are not as stable in the line-up but have guys like Aruban Douglas Stocks able to create some of the best success in the league and a top monthly performer in the case of Stocks who belted 11 HRs in the first month of play. Yong-gyu Sin takes over at leadoff versus lefties for Min-jae Kim. Kim is a patient contact hitter who is 6/7 in stolen bases. Sin is 35 year old professional hitter with some pop and speed, but has less success stealing bases. Aussie Sebastian Purss is an all-around avergae hitter. SS Jack Overton from America is a professional type hitter in the third hole. Aruban Stocks and South African Sam Sam Vakker provide power in the line-up. The depth of the line-up is established with Chong-seop Chin who is a nice average hitter and thirdbaseman Dae-je Hong has nice contact in the back of the order. Suwon Mystics 17-18 5th in the East North Division The Suwon starting pitcher Jim Mettrick mystifies his opponents with a top curveball and othrwise overal above-average make-up. Hyo-jun Lee is lacking as a professional pitcher but at least provides with also big league curve and control also from the left side. Panaman Alvin Chavez has little on his fastball but even less stuff and control. American Travis Terry brings control and movement to his fastball and slider, Terry is a rare case as a starter who only has two pitches in his arsenal and serves more from the bullpen for the Mystics. The Mystics have a three-headed monster in the bullpen with closer Lindsey Lapthorne sinking and sliding his way into the strike zone with amazing stuff and Cheol-min Oh being a set-up man also with elite stuff joined in the bullpen with Canadian Nicolas Fortin who is as a professional of a pitcher as they come. The Mystics are first in batting average, on-base percentage, second in slugging percentage, and are fourth in runs. Their line-up has some of the best 1-9 in the league to manifest those impressive numbers. It seems to be more of a complete hitting team than a small number of players causing the greater damage. Won-suk Chong leads off, he is slightly below average in everything but patience and stealing. So in a line-up with few weak players he plays his role adequately as the weak link. Japanese short-stop Mokichi Hosino is a strong contact guy in the second hole. Aruban firstbaseman Karl Manuel is a devastating hitter and is a star in the league. Third-baseman Hirohisa Iijima has it all as a hitter at 6'1 205. Taek-hyun Moon has an adequate bat with nice pop. Left-fielder Ikki Nakagawa is a guy who can hit third for most teams with also some pop. Second-baseman Min-bum Kim is a professional hitter and a very hard out. Catcher Jacob Henderson has decent pop to go with established patience. And 3B Hyun-soo Nam is across the board a strongto average hitter. at 5:05 AM today, Travis Terry will bring his stuff to the starting role versus Burt Auty. The baseball talent lies in favor of Suwon, but Hwaseong sit with the better record. Anything can happen when these two Korean clubs match-up, today in Hwaseong.

2006 Game Preview / Team Summary
Canberra Rippers 19-16 2nd in the East South Division
32 year-old Roque Herrida out of Mexico stands first aan atop the pitching rotation. The 6'4 220 pitcher has top control and good stuff to help utilize his high rated change-up pitch. Puerto Rican Armando Lopez is quite similar but has less control but more stuff and movement. American Roland Holt suffers from poor movement and control but also has enough stuff to remain on a professional roster. Yoshida Ine is a place filler who also exhibits a proficient change-up pich. The bullpen is a but more effective than the starting rotation and is lead by closer Marvin Jones's elte slider and he is accompanied by the stuff from American Jake Smith and Puerto Rican Jorge Vasquez The Rippers lead the East Intercontinental in homeruns and are 3rd in on-base percentage. Power comes from the bats of RF and DH Katsuhiko Sawada, 1B Nortiada Hayashi, and oufielders Dale Tucker fromt he US and Aussie Daniel Weichard. Along with the power provided by the aforementioned sluggers, Canadian 2B Edmond Bertrand and Aussie 3B Sebastian Haynes give the Rippers two average but balanced hitters. 5'9 180 Amercan lead-off, Red Millet, is not at all a big league caliber hitter but does provide as a hard out and base-stealer with eliter speed and patience and two-strike hitting at the plate. Johannesburg Thunder 10-25 Last in the East South Division Japanese Senichi Yamauchi is the club's ace, and will return shortly off the DL. He is an extreme grounball inducing pitcher with above-average stuff and control. Curacaoan Cartlon Coulton fills in for the moment as a all-around adequate pitcher, but far from having the ability of an ace. Stanley Ide from Aruba is an all-around pitcher but really doesn't provide much but maybe a curveball with unremarkable stuff. Korean Hae-weon Lee and American Ryan Rawnsley leave much to wish for in the final two rotations spots other than their contributions. The Thunder are almost rated 12th in the league in everything concering pitching and the lack of depth at pitching is clear. As clear as that is, there doesn't seem to be a sure weak piece in the bullpen other than maybe one spot. Closer, Set-up, and middle relief all are manned with adequate arms from native Brody Steedman (CL), American Tim Warren (Setup), and South African Joseph MacKeith. The good news is that Johannesburg is a well balanced team when looking at their stats. The bad news is that their offense is as lowly ranked and throughout just as much as their pitching. So that balance is balancing off the wrong things to make them last in most categories in teh EIL. Johannesburg missed out in signing national star Todd Moore and have little else but maybe Keehan O'Mulvany as a bat that both can swing with consistent power and contact. New Zealand lead-off hitter Cooper Helmrich should also be noted for his bat work and ability to provide pop. 37 year-old Jamaican power hitter Jason Stirzacre is a power piece, but at his age, he shouldn't be looked to as the one that can and should carry the team. When your relying on a Jamaican, you know you are in trouble. We have a pitching dual between Ide and Ine. Stanley Ide faces the best hitting team and will have to be on his a-game, but he may have room for comfort as Yoshida Ine is a very weak pitching piece and his team should provide some runs to make it a chance to knock off the Rippers.

2006 Game Preview / Team Summary
Michigan Ironbacks 17-18 5th place
Michigan seems to suffer from depth in its staff and could be better served building up that aspect of the club. Jin-haeng Kim is actually not an electric starting ace, but he does have solid control and a top change-up. Munyaki Mori looks more like a fourth rotation guy as he has balance but all on the cusp of average stuff. SP Ikki Ichikawa has elite control and an elite slider, has big league stuff, but his movement is so poor that big leaguers see their balls go over the wall way too often. Hun-hyeon Park is adequate as a fourth pitcher but that is all. American closer Buck Williams stands at 6'6 245, and has top stuff and impeccable control with his arsenal of a cut-fastball and a slider, and fellow American Daniel Taylor has elite control and adequate stuff as well. But the rest of the bullpen is nothing to write home about. There is one name that stands out in the Ironback line-up, that is Dominican Jorge Benavidez. The 37 year old star has amazing recognition and provides top quality power and hitting all-around, a treasure to fans for a brief end to his career in the IBL. Lead-off hitter Kyung-bok Lee is a powerful base-stealer and Johnathan Watts is an all-around adequate player, but the line-up is suffering for more that even the fourth hole is manned by a contact professional hitter and not a game-changing slugger in switch-hitting Calvin Binns. Benavidez does have little help from fellow Domincian Miguel Castillo in the power department in the fifth hole, though. Washington Potomacs 25-10 1rst The Potomacs are an offensive force, and they are lead in pitching by Mexican Juan Grajales who has good stuff with his slider, cutter, and elite change-up. The remaining starters are all just barely sufficient, but sufficient nonetheless. Grajales has fellow Mexican Cris Fisueroa on staff at the final rotation spot. Tadasu Sato is the closer with a fastball, slider and elite stuff. Herve Chardon is often leading things off for the Potomacs. The Canadian native is a slow lead-off hitter and otherwise merely average player, but his ability to fight balls off gives the opposing pitcher a tough out and his team the ability to see pitches from the opposition early on at the start. Following Chardon is Aussie Rodney Vernon, Aussie Harold Acret, LF American Andy Watson, 2b Kazuhiko Kuno as a series of players with low contact but power to boot with Kuno being extremely selective and patient. The rest of the line-up is lacking, but Ricardo Valdes is a nice contact Puerto Rican catcher. And the line-up closes with 1B Craig Ingram and Aruban CF Umberto Wolthaus having large powerful swings if nothing else. Fusueroa and Park face lots of powerful swingers in this game. It may serve to be a game of last man connecting big to see who prevails today at 2:05 PM

2006 Game Preview / Team Summary
17-4-2006
Orlando Villains 24-23 3rd in the WIL West North Division The Villain pitching struggles (10th in ERA) have not been because of the starting crews' performance (3rd in starter ERA). South African southpaw sits atop the rotation with sufficient control and solid movement. His effectiveness is producing grounders, although not at an extraordinary rate, American Dave Henry has a three pitch arsenal and relies on his stuff in his fastball, cutter, and world class change. Below-avergae Aussie James Frost has a below-average arm but a big league slider and Japanese pitcehr Takamasa Kato is a merely a class above the righty Frost. The Villain offense is impressive in its effectiveness in power and run scoring, and competitive in traditional scales of batting average and stealing. Americans Charlie Parr and Joe Roundy are solid middle infielders who lead the line-up off with just enough to provide for the big hitters of Mark Wade, Frank Nash, Trent Thomas, Puerto Rican Luis SIlva, and Aruban thridbaseman Isaac Strudwick. All the listed sluggers have solid patience and pop with Mark Wade, the Masontown, Pa native, being a stud in every capacity at the plate. Miami Blaze 25-22 2nd in the West North Division The Blaze pitching staff is rated close to their 2nd place standing implies, but 11th in homeruns given up. Puerto Rican Ruben Martinez is one of th aces of the whole league with top stuff, electric movement, and wonderful control for keeping his sinker and change low in inducing groundballs. Though Aussie Tristan Yabsley usually follows Martinez in the rotation, he does not show as a big league pitcher if it weren't for his exceptional change-up. Dominican southpaw Pancho Aguilar is an all-around average to good option and 27 year-old Korean southpaw Hyun-Seung Ahn has all the tools but not the control in the final spot. The bullpen is lead by closer Myeong-han Lee who has upper movement and control for closing and Curacaoan Louis Strawson whose movement on his cutter is out of this world. The Miami Blaze have few standout batters but few easy outs as well. Trent Grieve is a hard-nosed player who lacks big league talent as he is generally a below average bat in the lead off. Dutch Islander Oliver Bojorquez is a high contact guy adequate at the top of the order and American left-fielder Ray Ray is the most balanced bat before Miami brought in two new guys to provide more in the line-up. SS Will Williams is a 23 year-old contact player with speed. Mike Laton has also been added with hopes to add his bat for producing in the middle of the line-up. Laton seems to be a cut above average in balance but nothing he excels at. Today's game has Kato going against Aguilar. Williams and Laton should make their debuts and it will be Aguilar to limit the walks ahead of them in order to prevent their intiation a productive one. Two teams not separated by a lot in the standings nor the globe make for a baseball game worth seeing.

2006 Game Preview / Team Summary
Nashville Robins 26-26 5th in the West North Division
In general, Nashville ranks below average in almost any category within the Western Interncontinental League, but they have done pretty well in the opponent average against and hits allowed. At .500 ball they seem to fit the category of 'avergae bad team.' Theri rotation is first manned by Chi-hun Kyung, a Korean power-pitcher who pretty much has everything working with an arsenal of fast, chnge, split, and circle change. He is followed by Dominican Juan Gonzales who has nice control and decent movement, but his stuff is lacking and he doesn't excel in any pitched in his arsenal which consists of a cutter, curve, slider, & change. 26 year-old American Tom Turner is third in the rotation despite not really having big league stuff and relies on just two adequate pitches in his curve and change-up. Nashville has found 20 year-old Hale van den Burgt out of Europe a place to fit the rotation as a developing Dutch prospect who projects to have adequate-to-good stuff and movement on his fastball and change-up. Americans Lee Thomas and Richard Smith lead the bullpen. Closer Thomas has great stuff and upper-echelon sinker and slider to eliminate hitters. Smith is a groundball inducing southpaw with a strike-out pitch in his slider. American right-fielder Lee Ward is a threatening bat when teamed up with Japanese teammate Takahiro Murakami (LF). The two give the Robins consistent power hitters and run makers. With these two middle of the order guys are followed by the highest ranked centerfielder, teammate Runy Khanian who has elite speed and range in the outfield and a nice pop with his adequate bat. The Robins have Japanese players in the average abilities of catcher Masutaro Yama****a and a powerful, defensive third-baseman Yoriyuki Hara. American second-baseman Robert Hutchison and Korean first-baseman Keon-chae Kim are top of the order guys. New Jersey Wise Guys 20-32 6th in the West North Division Last place New Jersey needs to revamp their bottom-fallen pitching staff and find more pop in their league leading hitting average. Ken St. John readily gets the ball first in the rotation. He is a grounball inducing talent with above-average and control. Aussie Jake Dennis has big league stuff when pitching one of three pitches, being the fast, cutter, and forkball at a nice big league level. American Paul Talley has little to show for besides his two better pitches the slider and change-up. Aruban Fred Human lives off his big league fastball and doesn't provide much else as far as impressive pitching tools. Venezuelan Miquel Costa is an average closing talent who tries to close games out from a bullpen that has suffers from good, reliable arms. The Wise Men feature the top-German player in the IBL, Rutger Szelig. Szelig is a multi-tooled thirdbaseman from Freising, Bavaris in Germany. He bats fourth and ahead of Nicaraguan Jesus Fransico who has elite gap power and a talented but free-swinging approach. Right-fielder Martin Pelfrey and DH Chris Foster are the alternate hitters with any power to speak of. Elder American Norbert Gibson leads off the line-up with more patince than running speed, though adequate, and Canadian Todd Healey has uncanny hitting ability to contact in the second hole. In today's game, there is as much an even pitching dual you can get with these teams. New Jersey plays at home and has a .423 winning percentage there compared to a road percentage of .346. 2006 Game Preview / Team Summary
Montreal Sonics 29-23 3rd in the West North Division
Montreal and Toronto face-off with even records and big stars to start a five-game series on April 22. Ken Westgate is the team's first.choice pitcher, though he is far from an ace at his age of 34 as he categorically is lacking as a starting big leauge pitcher. Panaman Brian Martin provides some big league movement and control on the mound in the second rotation spot. 23 year-old Korean Hyang-nam Lee seems to have peaked and has nice stuff for his top change-up and better than functional forkball. Aruban Hendri Van Lint has adequate tools aside from his explicit stuff, but also has a small arsenal for a staring pitcher at this level. Montreal has Japanese pitcher Yoritoki Nakano as their closer with good stuff and nice movement for a top fastball and split-fastball. Ivan Ibanez and Marcello Guerin are filling in with minimal talent from a very light bullpen. Switch-hitting Puerto Rican Luis Aguilera and American Jamie Willard are star quality players for the Sonics and give the Sonics much production and power in a complementary line-up full of adequate bats and sluggers. Puerto Rican catcher Marcos Fernandez has substantial power as well as lead-off Aussie hitter Thomas Rowe. Rowe has slight dissatisfactory contact ability but power and patience to boot. He is followed by American Ryan Brandon who has above-average contact ability. Toronto Terriers 29-23 2nd in the West North division Recent Canadian signing, Kevin Jarville, has taken over the role of ace for the Terriers, he is a groundball pitcher who lacks in no area and excels with his curve-change-up arsenal. 37 year-old Tim Baldridge has the movement of a nice pitcher who loves to get his infield some work. Japanese starter Shihei Ito is a cut below a true power pitcher with his stuff and fastball-slider combination which is disturbed by his talented forkball. Dominican Ricardo Barron is a finesse pitcher who has great control when pitching his top change and slider pitches. Closer Steef Chugg is an electric closer at 6'6 230. If it wasn't for his lack of control, Venezuelan Luis Salinas would rival Chugg as top reliever. Aussie Peter Webber and Korean Ji-hoon Kim fortify the bullpen with some adequate arms. Not many are as feared as Puerto Rican second-baseman Alfonso Vasquez. It's pretty rare for a second-baseman to fatten opposing pitcher's ERA's. But this guy has the goods and ability to hit it far and deep away from anyone ever catching it, an OPS hero of heroes. 38 year-old Korean Do-hyung Kim is another OPS profile hitter but lacks the right production of a real threat, though he bats fourth. Firtbaseman Stewart Morin from Canada is a nice productive guy who has balance in his approach and shows up well in the latter part of the order. South African Era Gelet is an adequate catcher and Panama-native Wendell Rodriguez is a reliable centerfielder defensively. In today's game, it usually is about neutralizing the others star powers or at least minimizing their damage from guys getting on-base beforehand. Hyang-nam Lee is not really great at preventing walks. Terriers may look good at home today.
