Not a particularly good month, we went 10-12 for July. In terms of schedule strength, August promises to be so much worse. But we aren’t dead yet. 69-40 for the season, division 1st, overall 4th. +11 with two months to play, relatively safe? We’ve already won enough games to guarantee avoiding relegation, so that’s not any worry, but I would like to get at least a division win out of this season. Here come the number one and number two seeds running through the division in August back-to-back. Pitch your arms off, men. Projections: PPM™ 98 Wins RSS 93 Wins |

Well. We went 0-3 against the number one seed, which doesn’t bode well for the Series, and 2-1 against the number two, which does. All in all, not as rotten a month as the schedule predicted. 14-10 for August, which puts us at a comfortable 86-50 for the season. Division 1st (+14½), Overall 3rd. We cannot be relegated, and +14 with a 26 games to play is effectively, if not yet officially, a lock on the division. Projections (margin of error small at this point): PPM™ 100 wins RSS 99 wins I think we’d prefer the nice round 100, but high nineties ain’t no slouch. Should be a club record. |

Bieber wins 20, Pirates win 103
Shane Bieber put the polish on his Cy Young bid credentials by taking the ERA and Wins titles. He’s also atop the leader boards in WHIP and rWAR, and made 26 QS. The Pirates set a record for vehicles impounded in a single season at 103. The Fat Captain was heard chortling as he tossed more gold into his treasure chest. The Lincoln Park rotation essentially dominated the NC this season. |

Pirates go down quietly in DCS
The Fat Man is beginning to be concerned with the Pirate’s seeming inability to win the big games. Post-Season Awards: Cy Young – S. Bieber Gold Glove – C. Crisp (CF–3rd consecutive, while playing as part-time backup) Gold Glove – R. Furcal (SS) Gold Glove – R. Hansen (3B) Gold Glove – R. Cano (2B) |

I read up on the real life Lincoln Park Pirates
Pretty hilarious. But for those of us who have lived in Chicago, not really all that surprising. My favorite Chicago story was the mailman who had a basement full of other people's mail that he didn't bother to deliver. And I was there when the Chicago River flooded half the basements downtown.

Thing is, Goodman was singing in the 70s. Lincoln Towing is still in operation right now!
Though they do get shut down by an Alderman from time to time, then run back to get reinstated by their crooked judge. Last edited by Lemandria; 04-13-2020 at 08:17 AM. |

Par for the course in Chi-town
And in that city, it's important to have the home court advantage in any legal proceeding.

Grim and bear it
Face first into a buzzsaw. No other way to describe it, this division is just that stacked. All four teams are objectively better than LPP, and the big shark is massively so. We’re going to bounce from 103-win season to a .300 (and relegated) season. Yes, we are under-performing. Yes, it is only the first month of the season. But I’m not gonna pull this one out of the fire. So this will be a cross-train-and-bank-PP season. I’ll continue building the team I set out to build, at the pace I set out to build it. |

Are you sure you will be relegated?
Right now there are 7 teams with worse records than yours. But I'm not sure the Pro/Rel standings page is accurate. I understand that they have been aggressive with promotions early on, in order to populate the upper tiers of their universe more quickly. But promoting 16 teams and relegating 4 may be overdoing it a bit. Right now I have all of my teams with records between 42-38 and 47-35. So they'll all get promoted, even though only 2 or 3 will make the playoffs. That just doesn't seem right.

All Star game came and went. No Pirates were in attendance. They’re always afraid we’ll tow cars from the ASG parking lot. 48-59, Division 3rd Overall 20. Silver seems to be our level for the near future, while we siphon enough gasoline to pay our bush league players. Trickle of tournament packs continues to produce only duplicates and iron players, I don’t really believe in fire pulls. Welcome to the team: Rookie sensation Bob Boone, fresh up from the CAA farm team. We’ve heard wonders about his defense, he should fit the team nicely. [Editor’s Note: we understand the C defense is still “broken,” as far as anyone can determine. But the team’s theme essentially demands this pick.] Last edited by Lemandria; 04-17-2020 at 04:03 AM. |

I have heard that C defense is "broken" several times
What do you all think the rating should affect, if done properly? What is apparently not working?
I would think that a low catcher defense rating should decrement control somewhat (from the lack of pitch framing ability) and allow more PB's and WP's. It's not obvious to me how a player could monitor this. |

Dunno, there's a recuring thread about catcher D on the main pt board, didn't say I agreed with them.
Some CERA true believers, last time I looked in. Original OP was mad about King Kelly having no appreciable negative effects on the teams using him despite a...less than stellar D. Last edited by Lemandria; 04-18-2020 at 12:06 PM. |

Thanks, read that thread and one of the ones linked from it
It appears that a good C changes a few BB's into K's (maybe indirectly) and allows a lot more SB (on the order of 50 more per season). So the staff ERA might go up by 0.2 or so with a rat catcher.

Rather a wasted season, which may have achieved the worst possible result.
76-86 (.469), Division 3rd (1 and 2 totaled more that 200 wins). Buzzsaw. We’ve run into that one before, and we’ll surely run into it again. The problem is that under the current paradigm, that .469 is jusssst enough to get promoted–I won a single game too many. We get to go to Gold, after limping through Silver (hiss). Looking forward to another cross-training season in 2024! Minor League results (by wins): 94 Baton Rouge (st) wc 89 Las Vegas (st) 86 Nashville (st) 82 Tulsa (i) wc 56 Santo Domingo (i) Last edited by Lemandria; 04-19-2020 at 04:35 AM. |

Looks like your Pirates have a tough draw
My Freelancers are in the other conference and we don't meet this season. Good luck with the Leones.

Well that didn’t work
I watched several teams tank right past me in the downward direction, and I had one decent month this entire season (.643 in August). Apparently I simply wasn’t committed enough to losing, so we’ll stick around in Gold for another season. Final results: 63-99 Division 4th Overall 25th Relegation +4½. Our pitching is not good enough to progress, particularly bullpen. Our outfield is too weak to progress. Time to scout some warm bodies, and I think we’ll be looking at some ballpark changes. And maybe we won’t draw the top seed for the third consecutive time. Cold stare @OOTP. --- Nothing to report from the minors, most of them are standing pat. Found their working levels, I suppose. A lot of .500 teams in the minors in 2024. Maybe OOTP has found their working levels, as well. I wonder how they decide when it's time to turn on Full Mobility? We should be seeing the first PL in '25. Last edited by Lemandria; 04-26-2020 at 03:10 AM. |

I should have contacted you
I had an extra OF on my Freelancers that would have helped you, the 84 OVR Oliva who I trained up to a 60-something in LF then made superfluous by buying Chuck Klein to play RF and push Flick to LF. So I played out the season and put Oliva in the AH for 5K and he was gone in half an hour. Flick has trained up to a 90 in LF, so I have a very capable contact guy who has GG potential out there now. And I have had Hazle as my DH on that team since the entry league, so Oliva was totally blocked.
My Freelancers finished 68-94 in that league, but with the sale of Oliva and a pretty solid earnings year, I had a balance of over 12K at season's end. I have put that to good use, and have a much stronger team now than I had during the season. We'll see how it goes. |
