In the bottom of the fifth, Paskert injured his leg running out an infield single and had to leave the game. He was replaced by Mike Mowrey. Mowrey went on to score from second on a Hoblitzell single. With two out, Hoblitzell scored from third on a passed ball.

After six: Cincinnati 3 Pittsburgh 0.

In the top of the eighth, Storke scored from third when Downey flubbed a two-out grounder by Campbell.

In the bottom of the eighth, Chick Brandon took the mound for the Pirates.

In the top of the ninth, Abbaticchio made it a one-run game with an RBI triple. But, for the second time in the game, the Pirates failed to make contact on a squeeze bunt as Abstein was the culprit and Abbaticchio was tagged out at home. Abstein then flew to right to end the game.
