Yeah, I think people post without reading the thread at times. See my post above where I show the traditional "SD" logo and the topic of the thread which is most definitely a new design. Clearly the latter is an issue both in terms of perception and plain ugliness.

It may have been 75 years since the end of WWII, but if you stop and take a look around, fascists/racists are getting louder and prouder. It's very easy to swap out the combo logo, and go with either the "SD" logo or the "Swinging Friar" logo. It's terrible that a symbol of good fortune has come to represent pure evil and hatred, due to its co-opting by the Nazis for a relatively brief period of time, but it has. I think it's better to make the simple switch than it is to give any legitimacy to that kind of belief system. Just my opinion though. YMMV

I have worked for many large companies and organizations, some multi national. And many would be surprised at how sometimes large decisions get made by very few people.
It would not surprise me at all if something like what you described happened where a small handful of people in the art and marketing department did this and never even stopped to get a closer look at it.
