The problem isn't with the tanking in itself, the problem is then you move down to levels your team is too good for. Like this guy for example, he tanked from perfect to bronze clearly so he could be in leagues where nobody was even close to competing with him:

...and if an OVR reduction check limiting active roster depletion was implemented, we wouldn't need this discussion.

I don't criticize the debate, I criticize where the blame is being put. You can't blame the customer when the rules are not clear. "intentionally losing" can be anything from a general definition to a no-exceptions definition. Either the rules need spelled out, or you add code to not allow it to happen (which would be the most effective way).

Leave room for a team to change out players between active and reserve lists, but limit how far the active list can be depleted.

If you don't want people to use certain cards then these cards shouldn't be in the game or you need stricter roster rules. Simple as that. There are so many other games out there with similar problems, just take a look how they try to fix it.

Create different pools of cards that are allowed at every level for example or let people submit rosters that are locked before the season and then use an algorithm to put teams that are equally strong in the same league.

It's like wondering how to fix those problems when they've been fixed hundreds of times by other games already

I have two (probably three soon) in Perfect League that are doormats and they were very competitive up through diamond. Those teams are on auto pilot right now as I am not going to spend any more money on these teams and can't compete with the whales.

So here it is July, with much of the MLB (and Perfect Team) season left, and when my third team gets promoted, I'll be moving on to another game. I don't spend a ton on the game, but I do occasionally drop a twenty spot to crack packs or acquire a few players. That will end probably this week. The developers are trying to make money, but when they kill interest in the game, they discourage players from spending.

IMHO the simplest fix would be to add a level or two between Diamond and Perfect (or above Perfect or whatever) to push more of the whales above the hoi polloi. Maybe increase the number of teams relegated at the Perfect Level. And maybe add a floor for the total team value that a team must meet so a Perfect League team couldn't sub to mostly iron cards. I get that last idea would be hard to implement as there are a few lower value cards still playable at the hardest level and that people play theme teams.

In any event, when my three teams are all Perfect League, I'll put my best lineup out there but I'll be done actively managing the teams and paying for any upgrades...

I am currently in Perfect and want to run a team for a season using only my Special Edition cards earned from collection missions. Is that considered tanking? The team won’t be nearly as strong but I earned the cards and want to use them.

Good idea but where do you draw the line? My Bees have a strong lineup of meta cards that have been among the top teams up through Diamond. The reserve list has a pretty strong lineup of for a competitive Brewers theme team.

I have and should be able to play both, but it is almost a complete lineup switch...

You absolutely should be able to play them. My Barnstormers are a Negro League theme team and my Bees, as I mentioned, can be converted to a Brewers theme team that I created by completing the Brewers LIVE and Harvey Wallbangers missions. At no small cost in PP.

And karma is bullcrap anyway. When one is expecting good things coming to them cuz they did good things, they are already doing things for reward and not out of kindness.

See, the fact you even have to ask this is proof enough of how vague the rules are. Here we have someone that (more than likely) spent money to get all the SE cards he wanted, but because he's in Perfect and some of those cards are not as good as some on his current roster, he more than likely will be reported by the PT thought police, despite contributing to the overall health of the game.
How is that not completely screwed up ? Why would someone in their right mind would want to spend MORE money to get those cards just so they can sit on the bench ?

It doesn't affect me per say but I would be pissed to see a C student sleep their way to an A while I work hard and only get a B in college. Does the C student getting A affect my B at all? No, not really. Am I not happy about it? Yes.

Also, if I see someone robbing a store, I sure hope that dude get caught and I will be happy to see the police arrest that man right in front of my eyes. I have zero relation to the store and the whole robbing doesn't affect me at all, but I still feel something about the robbery itself.

I would also argue that a sport team winning a championship does nothing to the fans' personal life as well, but they all seem to be very happy and celebrate others' achievements. People care about other people and stuffs happening around them even if they have no effect on their own life, I think that's a given. The parameter is "how much they care". Expecting everyone to go 0 on that is crazy.

The Devs are aware there is a problem. But it's on them, not the players. If you don't want for some cards to be used at certain levels, put in restrictions. If you don't want people to abuse losing strategies, take that aspect out of the game. You can't blame players for using tools you give them
Creating a millionth thread about tankers is not going to make anyone more aware of what is going on. At this point, it borders on trolling given the great amount of threads already started on the subject.

I fail to see why 100 threads of the same topic is considered trolling. In many forums, people post about the same thing many times and that's how it is. People are free to open a topic about anything PT-related in the PT subforum. You can choose to ignore any thread that you have no interest in. I did a lot of this, but I never condemn anyone for opening any thread. They can open 1000 threads about RNG and getting screwed by the game for all I care. Some of those are very entertaining reads.

Some people are not happy about tanking in the game, and other people tell them to not care about what others are doing. Somehow those "other people" keep asking people to stop starting topics they don't want to see. I thought we are more on the "let people do what they want" train, which includes some people can open the threads and discuss what they want and how they want?

People can make whatever thread they like. I personally don’t like the singling out other players. BTW, I would love to hear the OP answer my question on the Special Edition team. I see that he is ignoring it so far, most likely because whatever he comes up with will be total BS.

Hey brother, you looking for an argument? You do whatever you want, it's up to the developers to draw the line not me.

I don't know what's so hard about this. The vast majority of people who tank are not going to be clever about it. I think that suggestion of "if your average team overall drops X points below what it was at the beginning of the season, then flag the team for suspected tanking" is probably the best common indicator. Who knows, maybe the developers already have this system in place. In fact, I doubt we'll know what exact system they have in place because it'd be easier to avoid detection if we knew.

I don't think a team going to Special Edition cards qualifies as tanking. If you're spending a ton of PP on the auction house for the purpose of team transformation, you're likely not a tanker. The vast majority of tankers are going to spend less than 1k or so on the AH, slap on a bunch of iron and bronze cards and call it good.

Were you around for PT19 ? A precedent had been set with the merging of similar topics, with the attached note to put everything related into that one thread. I don't see why this has to be different, there's multiple threads about tanking created every week, and pretty much none of them have been constructive in any shape or form.

Well, if they setup an official tanking thread and stick up the attached note here in the PT20 subboard, I will be firing at every other non-official tanking threads made after that. Until then, people are free to open threads about it as they want.

Also, when a problem is there on PT19, and is not solved or explained in PT20, I think that deserves some threads on it. Look at NBA 2K, people bring up the same points every years that are not fixed that year. That's fair criticism IMO.

I am doing this currently. used all SE and won it at gold level. used mostly SE and won it all at diamond level.

used 25% SE at perfect level. won division in a weakish perfect league BUT lost in round of 5.

no it is not considered tanking. i believe you can field a team with mostly diamonds that are SE.

Haha, I only have one Diamond SE. Quite a few Gold but the majority Silver and Bronze.

Sunshine tends to promote ethical conduct. Complaining about the source of the sunshine tends to reveal those whose ethics I personally wish to avoid. Thanks to all who participate in this thread—I learn something from each of you.

So why won’t any of you “ethical” people answer my question about myself fielding a SE team? The OP copped out and said he would leave it up to the developers. He brings up the tanking and then can’t answer a simple question because he knows he is wrong. Hiding behind the developer argument isn’t very ethical in my eyes. But you go ahead and follow your little ray of sunshine.

BTW, my team in Perfect lost in the Championship Series last season. Not sure what they have done this year though, haven’t had a chance to check this weekend.

I have zero problem with an SE team, or any other specialty team. Theme teams keep in interesting. Just don't sit here with a straight face and tell me the when someone gets to Perfect level and decides to field an all iron team that they're doing anything ethical. It's a garbage argument, and we all know it...or should.
