To be fair, no one is going to buy a gold card for 250,000 if we follow that thread's max cap. The system is not really in the wrong here, it's the players screwing around with it.

Yeah it's not somebody selling off a card at a ridiculously high price (I mean, we've all tried that), it's a guy hiding his best cards on the AH so he can tank. Different and not as funny situation.Albeit a noble effort on the guy trying to work the AH's part. Just saying.

I seen them yesterday and thought something is screwed up with this guy's head. I did not think of a stupid tank attempt but I believe it. There are so many cheaters in the game and this world that no trick they try surprises me. If it is some clown trying to snag a drunk, high, or not too bright of player, it is worse than tanking in my opinion.

Though he may very well be doing something wrong, I can’t make the leap to saying it is since there isn’t any evidence of what his current team looks like. Maybe they are still playing studs, maybe they aren’t. And I haven’t noticed an explanation of the benefit of hiding players this way rather than inactivating them unless they just didn’t know you can.

He may believe that he will evade detection from devs checking on a complaint by not having the players on his inactive list. He may believe that selling your best players is not considered tanking, and inactivating them is.

Would this problem be "solved" by making players you're auctioning still show up on your reserve roster? That way someone wouldn't be able to hide cards on the AH. So that'd solve the first problem. However, you could still hide players by deactivating them (though that means you can't use them for 14 in-game days). So maybe that first proposal would just change the behavior slightly.
So perhaps the question to ask is "what behavior is happening here and does the game need to discourage it?" And since it seems the underlying current here is once again about teams tanking so they don't get promoted, I'm going to exit stage right! |

"Hey, I am trying to sell them. It's not my fault that they are not selling. I truly believe they are worth X price." is certainly a stronger alibi than any bullcrap one can think of about why they put those players into the inactive list.

So the Dev answers, "Then why have you never bought a similar card that was highly overpriced?"

who really cares what teams not in your league are doing. the game structure is obviously flawed to a massive degree. the more it is out in the open then the more likely it is to get fixed. there was no "stress test" or beta version of the game to figure out how players could beat the system, let it happen and then you know what to do about it.

For how long? What happened when all these structural problems were staring everyone in the face? This is the only game I know where the biggest issue is too many people are trying to lose

I'm not sure I agree it's an epidemic. In life there are always, how do I say this without swearing and getting myself another infraction, certain people who could be considered well, best not verbalize it.

Whales make up a very small portion of the player base but a very high percent of active forum users. It isn't an issue at the top whale level but rampant in the lower levels to various degrees which is why the topic comes up so much here

You may be right. But there is way too much unknown in this case. If we find the team and see a bad losing record with weak players it would be different. I don’t want to take a stance without more evidence of wrongdoing.

I've been looking for Al Kaline for a while, and just noticed his auction in the AH. Last auctions averaged 4k, all-time average 4k. The auction was listed for 70,000PP start bid and 80,000BIN.
Pretty obvious what's going on. Oh, and the auction conveniently ends after the playoffs tomorrow, but before monday's games.

I am not accusing anyone. I am answering your question about what the motives might be.

No offense but there should be a "no thanks" or Facebook-esk "dislike" button to hit on threads like these that once it hits a certain number they automatically go in the recycle bin where they belong. Tanking - instant recycle bin. Whales - instant recycle bin. F2P universe - instant recycle bin. There should be a sticky note on all the rehashed bs by 1 of the devs so people have a place to lament. Maybe a picture of Tim Tebow to lift the spirit. There are far too many witch hunters and rocket detectives in this game who think everyone is out to cheat the system. Bottom line is winning. If you're not winning there has to be a reason. You're the best so someobody else must be cheating for you not to win. Either try harder or get a bigger pillow to cry on.
I said no offense so you can't be offended. |

Seriously, it's easy to spill crap round and round. Just like many criminals can just deny their crime until you have concrete proof. Until then, you cannot prove that he is lying and has to take what he said at face value unless you have some sort of lie detector. ----------------------------------------- Also, as I have pointed out in the first reply to this thread. Selling things at a ridiculous price and hoping to get lucky is very common in many games with an auction house. It's not illegal by any mean, just one better be careful when quick-buying stuff. It's so common that in the forum of many MMOs I have played, "double check the price before you quick-buy in the AH" is always a gameplay tips in a pinned topic, usually in the newbie subforum. It's up to the devs on whether they want to spend a lot of time checking the AH to see if those are tank-auctioning or just the no-harm-done "get lucky" routine. |
