I posted this a little while ago in the Fictional Sims subsection:

I've been playing with the house rule that I'm not allowed to initiate a trade.

I'm only allowed to trade with a team that makes an offer to me. I can then negotiate with that team and come up with something totally different from their original offer.

I like that house rule. It prevents me from snapping up every single juicy prospect out there. It's still not enough of a restriction, but some of my most coveted players do manage to escape my grubby little grasp and end up playing their careers with other teams. Which is a good thing (I grudgingly admit).

And sometimes I'm desperate to unload a player but end up getting stuck with him because a suitable team doesn't make me an unrelated trade offer. Another grudgingly admitted good thing....

No, I still have trading on normal.

Kinda like - I don't *really* want to go on a strict diet, I just want to cut back a little bit... (even though maybe I *should* go on a strict diet)

My main house rule is I will never make a trade if I don't see why the AI would do it and if I wouldn't do it myself from their perspective. I mean, yeah, teams do fleece other teams in real life, but it's too easy to fleece the computer. For me though, I don't care so much about my own team winning it all as I do care about keeping the realism of the league as a whole. Really, I'm the GM of every team as Commish and I'll make trades for them if it makes sense.

I set my owner spending to 1 and my market size to 1. Very Hard trading, heavily favor prospects. I make sure the LA teams, Boston, and NY have owner spending at 10 and market size at 20. But the biggest one is that if I am in the World Series I can only win it in 7 games. I will only play out games 6 and 7. Anything prior to that I save the simulated games if I lose, and kill the game if a win would clench me the series. Unfortunately, I lose interest in a career if I start winning too much, but I can't force myself to make stupid trades/signings, so that's the compromise, no WS wins unless they go 7 games. Yup, i know that ones crazy.
