Grab Kyle Schwarber. He can possibly play 1B/DH most of the time and give your starting catcher a rest when needed.

Wynegar or Diaz have been my bronze go to guys

Charles johnson was my silver guy in beta

Currently running Posey (lucky pull) who replaced realmuto who replaced Wynegar with Tucker Barnhart as my backup

I had needed power, so I had him as the strong side of a platoon at catcher in the beta. He hit much worse than a normal catcher, even. I ended up swapping him out for Wockenfuss.

and still people will say with conviction just how important it is... nothing to do with what they see in game but what they believe. often without any evidence or logical reasoning... just faith and because that's what "people" repeat ad nauseum. ( at least 2 logical fallacies involved)

Austin Barnes. Can be trained to be decent at 1B/2B/3B/LF too.

Have Perez and Wynegar. Perez has power in both entry and league. Wynegar got hot a few times in entry but batting .167 in league.

Have looked up Sundberg a few times in auction house but he hasn't been listed. would overpay for him

Saw Sundberg 1 time on the auction block. He was at almost 1900 with several hours remaining. I imagine he ended up over 2000

I posted the picture earlier in this post. I sold him the next day for 3300 It took a couple hours is all.

This is who I replaced him for. Excellent defense and a little better piece of lumber

My catching tandem that I pulled so far is Gary Carter and Curt Casali. No complaints so far there.

My daughter pulled both Ramos and Realmuto. Her team is using Realmuto at 1B, and has David Ross as backup C. Good pop there.

My son got what I thought was a rough pull in Andrew Knapp and Tim Federowicz. Surprisingly, both are playing well in an every other start situation.

This is my pick as well.

I was lucky enough to get All-Star Russell Martin who has been great for me, but have been using Jody Davis as a back-up. Reese McGuire and Pat Borders may also be worth looking into for budget options.

I have him as my backup. Have him set up to play C every 3 days and 2B every 10.

He's great.

My experience, also. Wynegar never hit enough.

I'm a Wockenfuss fan. I remember his 1980 Strat card was fun, and that's why I stick with him.

As to the effect of catchers on pitching, I'm skeptical. I used Mathis (a 41 with outstanding catching abilities) as Wock's backup and Wock had a better a CERA by half a run. So random, but no advantage to defense. Also Mathis hit well. He's the lowest rated player to contribute 1WAR to my team.

I'm running a platoon of Victor Martinez 2007 vs. RHP, John Wockenfuss 1980 vs. LHP. Jury's still out on their performance in Silver League, but V-Mart was very good in half a season of Bronze, and Wock has won a game with his power already this year.

Total cost: 2700 PP on the auction house, though I've only seen these guys once, and snapped 'em up when I did.

I'm using Christian Vazquez on one of my teams as a test of this. In a small sample size there has been very little defensive difference between him and his backup.
