The AZL Padres won the series in 4 games to move on to the finals, but the Rangers couldn't pull through, losing to the Angels in 5. That means it'll be Padres vs. Angels for the championship. Neither of our prospects pitched in those last few games.

The GCL Padres won the championship in 6 games over the Angels. Although Ben LeClair didn't play in the playoffs, he is a GCL champion in his first professional season!

The Royals won the World Series. Derek Jeter was inducted into the Hall of Fame.

The Braves informed Chris that he was being released today. He's really fast, but not a great hitter and not very coachable. Hopefully someone will pick him up, but it's not unlikely that Chris Ferrara's career comes to an end here.

Pat will be closing out games for the Texas 2 (DSL) Rangers 2 to start out this baseball season, and the DSL season begins today.

Pat was promoted to the Spokane Indians, which is the Rangers' low A (A-) team. Their manager, Tim Hulett, plans on using him as their closer. It's not all good news for Pat though, as the OSA thinks his potential has fallen to 3 stars.

Both Ben and Matt were released today, following the draft a couple days ago, by the Blue Jays and Padres respectively. I don't have high hopes for their chances to find new homes given their 1/2 star potentials, but hopefully something comes through.

Hope is not lost! Chris signed a 1-year minor league deal with the Minnesota Twins organization on June 25th. He was sent to their GCL team, where manager Ramon Borrego says he'll be the backup center fielder.

Pat has played 6 games of low A ball so far, throwing 5.1 innings and allowing 2 runs, giving him an 0-1 record with 4 saves. The OSA has boosted his potential rating to 3.5 stars.

I only just realized it, but Pat finished 3rd in voting for AZL outstanding pitcher last season!

The AZL season is over, and once again Jamie didn't get any playing time, and the Reds have missed the postseason. I'd say release is probably at this point for Jamie.

Chris is done for the year but hopefully not forever as the GCL season has ended and the Twins missed the playoffs. He only made appearances in 12 games. He didn't get a hit in 3 at bats, but he had a steal and scored twice. His WAR was -0.2. I'd be pleasantly surprised if the Twins have him back next year.

Just days before the low A season ended Pat was sent down to the DSL team. He was 3-2 with 16 saves and a 3.54 ERA in 30 low A games, giving him a 0.6 WAR. He threw 28 innings and struck out 43. The DSL season ended a week earlier and the Rangers missed the playoffs, so I guess that's it for Pat this year. The Spokane Indians did make the playoffs, but Pat won't be around for the run at the championship.

The Cubs won the World Series. Prince Fielder won the triple crown in the AL at 36 years old. The last guy to win a triple crown was Hiroyuki Higuchi for the Rockies in 2018, and he almost did it again this year, leading in HR and RBI and trailing in batting average by just .04. Nobody made it into the Hall of Fame this year.

Ben and Matt have retired. I don't think Ben, now 25 years old, would make a very good coach, but I told him that if he ever does decide to return to baseball to keep me in mind for an agent. Matt made it clear he's done with baseball for good, and I expect this is the last I'll ever hear of him.

I found 2 new prospects to represent as agent:

18-year-old SS Christian Stevenson, 1 star potential, 2.0 WAR this past year at Ocean Springs HS in Missouri, where the competition level is average.
20-year-old C Adam Broussard, 1 star potential, 1.3 WAR this past year at Purdue, where the competition level is great.

As I suspected, 22-year-old Chris Ferrara was released by the Twins today. Maybe he can sign with another team this year, but the reality is that Chris had no real future in baseball.

Pat was assigned to the single A Hickory Crawdads today. A good place to start the year for the 22-year-old. He will be the team's closer. Their season starts on the 15th.

After going 2-2 with 12 saves, 28 strikeouts, and a 3.38 ERA in 17 games for the Crawdads, Pat was promoted to the high-A High Desert Mavericks. He will be the closer there as well. I'm very excited to see Pat progressing in his career!

Today is the draft!

Christian was the first pick in the 30th round (885th overall) and will join the Tigers organization. He will start with their GCL team, but manager Butch Davis has no plans to play him.

Adam was draft by the Orioles in round 33, 987th overall. He too was sent to the GCL where he joins a roster packed with young catchers. I doubt he'll play much, if at all.

Meanwhile, Pat already has 2 saves in 3 games, throwing 4 scoreless innings while striking out 5 for the Rangers' high-A team.

Jamie is still in the Reds organization, but I'm nervous he'll get cut in the next few days now that the draft is over and the Reds have 30+ players coming into the organization. Still trying to get Chris a job somewhere.

The GCL season is over, but first, we have some other news.

Chris signed a minor league deal with the Reds on the 28th! The 23-year-old joined Jamie on the AZL Reds and has gone 0-for-3 in 2 games so far, giving him a -0.1 WAR. With only a few days left in the season he is their 3rd string SS and DH. The Reds are expected to make the postseason. Now in his 3rd season with the AZL Reds, Jamie still hasn't been given the chance to play.

Neither of our GCL players got any playing time this year. Adam will have to hope for another chance next season, but Christian's team, the Tigers, made the playoffs.

At the end of the AZL season, Chris has gone 0-for-5 in 4 games and has scored 1 run. He has a -0.1 WAR.

Jamie still hasn't played. But the AZL Reds did make the playoffs, so maybe both guys will get another shot.

The season is over in the California League, but Pat in the Mavericks are in the playoffs. Pat went 7-2 with 19 saves and a 3.05 ERA in 37 regular season games. He struck out 75 and had a WAR of 1.2. His totals for the year in both A and high A were 9-4 with 31 saves, 103 strikeouts, a 3.15 ERA, and a 1.3 WAR in 54 games.

The AZL Reds have moved on to the next round of the playoffs. Jamie didn't play in the first round, but Chris played twice as a defensive sub. Now they play the Padres in the championships.

Christian's West Tigers advanced and will play the East Tigers in the semifinals of the GCL championships. Christian didn't play in the first round.

The West Tigers lost to the East Tigers, who move on to the GCL finals. That ends Christian's year. He didn't play at all.

The AZL Reds lost to the Padres in the championships, 4-2. Jamie didn't play, but Chris pinch ran a few times and came up with a steal.

The Mavericks defeated the Modesto Nuts in the first round and moved on to the finals. Pat appeared in 2 of the 4 games, earning a win in the 1st and blowing a save by allowing 2 runs in the second (the Mavericks ended up winning that game anyway).

Pat is a champion! The Mavericks beat the Visalia Rawhide in 5 games, with Pat appearing in 2 of them. The only problem is that Pat was injured in the last game of the series. We're still waiting to hear what the diagnosis is. This really puts a damper on the championship celebrations.
