Phillies, period. Now, with a new inexperienced manager and new coaches. No leadership for the young kids. 2025, at least, to be a decent team where you could sign a top notch free agent. No big name free agent wants to sign with a losing team. They need to show they can win more than they lose, first. That will be a while longer. 2025.

Lol no. The Phillies aren't that bad. Royals, Marlins, possibly Detroit would be far worse than Philly. At least Philly has some prospects and very little long-term $$ on the books.

I think it's definitely the Padres. Hard division, not much talent, relatively small market team, been bad for a while... yeeshk. At least the weather is nice.

I'm brand new to this game (just picked it up on Steam sale), and since I only really follow the AL (I'm in a very intense AL-only fantasy league for the last 15 years), I decided to go with an AL team. From there, I wanted to pick the one with the longest WS drought, that has never won a WS.
That brought me to the 2017 Texas Rangers. I'm playing as GM-only, no simming games, and just got into June. And man - if this team isn't a train-wreck, I don't know what is! The minors are just terrible from what I can see, with no elite prospects. Even worse are the stiffs I'm burdened with at the ML level. The only decent SP is Darvish, and he refuses to sign an extension because he doesn't like manager Jeff Bannister. Then you've got the selfish egos on jerks like Carlos Gomez and the $29 MILLION/year (!) demands of Jonathan Lucroy for an extension. Combine that with a closer with lousy stuff (Sam Dyson), and has-beens like Mike Napoli, and it's a recipe for disaster. Currently 30th in team power rankings. It's not all bad, though. There are some promising young (DeShields, Odor, Mazara, Gallo) and youngish (Andrus) talents to build around for the future, and there's a lot of money to splash around. I'm hoping to jettison some big names around the end of July for prospects, and hopefully get back to being competitive by 2019. Having a blast so far! This game has so much going on, and I'm only scratching the surface so far... |

I'm more optimistic. I think the Padres are slowly but surely adding some good, young pieces to their team. If they can get some pitching, they're going to be very good in a couple of years.
