You can't do a WBC or Olympic style (or any style) tournament in OOTP17, that's one of the big new features for OOTP18

Thanks everyone for their feedback. Still not sure what to do. LOL
Good luck! No matter what you decide your decision will be the correct one. Continue to ask questions in these forums, the people are extremely helpful; I often get different and better ideas on how to make my experience even better with OOTP by reading or asking questions in these forums.

Probably more than one. That may cause frustration to some end users.
17 is ready to go, as far as any patches / fixes are concerned.
Hi Beanball... as always thanks for those fireworks in SSHH2k1

This is my general practice, the truth is I don't usually play a ton of a version before a new one comes along, so I often buy the new one at the end of the year, during the WS or something.

This year I preordered because of the promotion/relegation/tournament stuff, which fits really well with my (partially offline) fictional universe. Otherwise I also like to start with the bug-reduced versions.

WBC is unavailable in 17, but if you ask around and you're willing to commit some hours into it, you could create a custom international tournament.

BBGiovanni -- cheers .. it's been many years.
I purchase yearly, because curiosity kills the cat ///
I've always thought one of the biggest assets of OOTP is that it can be played so many different ways.
I played historical a long time before I went fictional. I can't seem to ever go back.

I don't mind patches / updates. It's the size that matters , as every OOTP update is the entire executable.
But Markus has stated this won't be changed.

I've spent half the winter setting up a new fictional league for 18.
Nothing fancy. Setting up OOTP can be as much fun as playing it.
Tweaking and such.

Setting it up can become an addiction. Can't tell you how many hours I have spent doing that. Not one minute of it was wasted time for me. Even leagues I ended up deleting was worth my time because I enjoyed it's creation so much.
