Divisions are tough. You don't see it in Australian sport because, unlike in the US, there's really nothing between the west coast and Adelaide. So geographical divisions would be unbalanced.

You could do a north/south split, with the WA, SA and Vic teams in one division and the Qld. and NSW teams in another, but then the Victorians would complain about too much travel (and frankly, so would the South Australians, because they're up themselves ) and you'd have split up the Sydney/Melbourne rivalry.

Best to leave it as one league, I think. Here in WA our sporting teams have gotten used to travelling a lot. Just having two teams now for a local derby will be a nice change of pace.

Go Swans!

Awesome League. What other leagues do you have and how many ABL players gone to the MLB because I've done something similar where a young SS went on and won golden gloves and played in All Star games after 3 years in Melbourne.

Weekly Recap 2030

Weekly Recap April 13th - April 20th

Australian Baseball League

Sunshine Coast signs former Bite closer Josh Pierce, Pierce should look to step in to a setup role for the Falcons.

Geelong trades 1B Robert Lungren (.267, 55H, 1HR, 11RBI in 2029) for Adelaide 27 year old SP Dave Cherry. Cherry has a career 2.65 era in his three years in the ABL.

Geelong also signs closer Austin Franklin. Franklin had 8 saves last year with Sunshine Coast

Analysis
Geelong clearly is attempting to strike back into contention as they make moves to bolster their pitching staff. Sunshine Coast continues to attempt to reach their first Claxton Shield as they continue to spend money (that they may not even have).

Just a reminder - OOC:Interactive
The commissioner will begin to meet with current teams about future expansion, schedule lengths. Official bids for the next cycle of expansion, predicted to be 2032 or 2034, can be submitted at any time.

Australian Amateur Baseball League

Second weekend of the AABL went as follows:

MLB New Zealand drops all three games to New South Wales.
Baseball Queensland beats Baseball Tasmania two games to one.
MLB Australia beats Baseball Western Australia in 2 of 3 games.
Baseball South Australia rebounds after a rough last week winning all three against Baseball Auckland.
Baseball Victoria defeats Baseball Northern Territory in 2 out of 3.

Standings
  1. Baseball New South Wales 6-0
  2. Baseball Queensland 5-1
  3. Baseball South Australia 4-2
  4. Baseball Victoria 4-2
  5. Baseball Western Australia 3-3
  6. MLB Australia 3-3
  7. Baseball Tasmania 2-4
  8. MLB New Zealand 2-4
  9. Baseball Northern Territory 1-5
  10. Baseball Auckland 0-6

Player Spot Light

Joe Brodbeck, the C for Western Australia, is hitting .364 with 2 HR, with a 2HR game this week against MLB Australia Joe cemented himself as one of the best catchers in the league.

Also shout out to Tyler Naylor for New South Wales. Naylor dominated MLB New Zealand going a CGSO with 11K and 1H. Naylor at 16 is considered a fringe prospect for the ABL. If his dominance continues he could rise up the draft board rankings for his class.

Yeah I should post a recap of stars that have moved on. Only 1 that I know of has made it for more than a year in the MLB. A few are stars in the Mexican League but that is about it. Two or three more have gone onto to have mild success in the Korean and Japanese Leagues.

I have every other league that comes with the game. I will post some stars and past greats each month of the ABL season, this could include Alumni.

Looking forward to it..sorry for the delay as I was moving this past week. I think we may see more of a challengers division form or a subleague. However, I personally see the league growing to about 16 or 18 teams. That leaves six slots. It will be interesting to see where those teams end up.

Will run and post some more the AABL soon and should be into the ABL season later this week.

Commissioners Office Report

April 20th

ABL Commish to Visit Expansion Sites

Today reported Joe Knutz sat down with the ABL's competition committee chair Stefan Albright. Albright said that both he and the commissioner would be visiting expansion sites this summer during the AABL season. At each site, a group representing the city, licencors, and support groups, will be charged to build and present their bid for a potential expansion license. Albright and each clubs officals have stated the goal to continue growth to 16 teams before the end of the 2030s decade. Albright referenced MLS expansion in late 10s and 20s as their goal to strengthen, deepen, and continue to expand the league in hopes of providing opportunities for Australian players.

The ABL has said they have the following preliminary schedule which seems to outline each potentially serious candidate:
  • May 3rd - West Sydney - NSW
  • May 4th - Wollongong - NSW
  • May 6th - Central Coast - NSW
  • May 9th - Ipswich - QLD
  • May 10th - Logan - QLD
  • May 12th - Hobart - TAS
  • May 14th - South Melbourne - VIC
  • May 15th - West Melbourne - VIC
  • May 18th - Townsville - QLD
  • May 20th - Cairns - QLD
  • May 23rd - Port Moresby
  • May 25-May 29 - Baseball New Zealand
  • June 1st - Darwin - NT

Weekly Recap 2030

Weekly Recap April 21th - April 27th

Australian Baseball League
Sydney responds to Geelongs move by signing 26 year old 1B Damion Guns Wu. Last year Wu hit .181 with 8 HRs. Wu has won two Silver Stick awards and a Newcomer of the Year Award. Wu will make 16,000 per year till 2034.

Analysis

Wu solidifies a lineup that should get to the Claxton Shield title series. Sydney could at most use to bolster their bullpen.

Just a reminder - OOC:Interactive
The commissioner will begin to meet with current teams about future expansion, schedule lengths. Official bids for the next cycle of expansion, predicted to be 2032 or 2034, can be submitted at any time.

Weekly Recap April 28th - May 4th

Australian Baseball League

No Major signings this week.
Analysis

Commish's Tour

Sydney
The tour in Sydney discussed multiple sites. From the North Shore to Sutherland and from Downtown, Olympic Harbour, and the Inner West. Sydney clearly has the population and opportunities to build another team. With support from the local government to give the Blue Sox a rival, expansion here sounds like a sure fire thing to many in the area. A site, justification, and marketing plan would set this bid to be an A grade bid.

Wollongong

About 100 km from Sydney lies an industrial city called Wollongong. On the Southern Coast, the Gong, is host to a multitude of sport teams. With an estimated population of just under 400,000. Wollongong is a unique opportunity to continue to build baseball up in New South Wales. Wollongong has had names like Wolves, Warriors, and Hawks, thrown about.

Australian Amateur Baseball League

Fourth weekend of the AABL went as follows:

Baseball Queensland vaults into first place with a sweep over Baseball South Australia.

Baseball Tasmania creeps into a tie for second as they swept the bottom table holders Baseball Auckland.

Baseball New South Wales dropped to second after losing 2 of 3 to NT.

MLB New Zealand struggles without Wigley on the mound, winning only his game against Western Australia, WA had Gary Hammer go 4 of 5 with a HR and 4 RBI to win the series finale.

MLB Australia took 2 of 3 including a 23 - 3 win over Baseball Victoria.
Standings
  1. Baseball Queensland 10-2
  2. Baseball New South Wales 8-4
  3. Baseball Tasmania 8-4
  4. Baseball Western Australia 8-4
  5. Baseball Victoria 7-5
  6. MLB Australia 7-5
  7. Baseball Northern Territory 4-8
  8. Baseball South Australia 4-8
  9. MLB New Zealand 4-8
  10. Baseball Auckland 0-12

Player Spot Light
Jai Wigley again has an impressive performance. In a CG gave up 4 hits and stuck out 13 and walked 0 in an impressive win over Western Australia. This improves Wigley's record to 3-1 and drops his era to a stunning 0.26.

Dylan Armstrong, 15, the starting pitcher for Northern Territory pitched a magical game against Baseball New South Wales. Armstrong held them to 3 hits to keep his shutout and get a 7-0 win for the struggling Nothern Territory.

Weekly Recap 2030

Weekly Recap May 5th - May 11th

Australian Baseball League

Peter Pollack, signs with Gold Coast.

Analysis

Gold Coast is just signing a marketable player. Nothing to see here.

Draft Pool Revealed
Top 10 in no particular order according to writers
  • Hector Morales (no team)
  • Martin Watts, 17, C, Western Australia
  • Jacob Wells, 17, 1B, New South Wales
  • Cam Mant, 17, 1B, MLB Australia
  • Burt Durney, 17, 3B, New South Wales
  • Brodie Curnow, 17, CF, Western Australia
  • Ronald Kay, SP, Baseball Auckland
  • Brendan Binns, RF, MLB New Zealand
  • Walter Wheeler, CF, MLB Australia
  • Hal Abbey, RF, Queensland

Commish's Tour

Central Coast
A bid put together by the Central Coast Mariners executive group. Bringing baseball to the Central Coast would fill in a small but large regional populace between the Hunter region and Sydney. Central Coast, while could end up being a small market team, could be like Geelong is to Melbourne, a rival and someone who drive your team to do better. Central Coast promises a baseball specific stadium is Gosford.

Ipswich and Logan
Suburbs of Brisbane, they could field a team. Stadium questions abound as money for regional sponsorship could be lacking. Ipswich or Logan could also serve as entrants for a challangers cup or minor league baseball.

Australian Amateur Baseball League

Fifth weekend of the AABL went as follows:

1st place Queensland continues their hot streak winning all three against MLB New Zealand.

Baseball Tasmania takes sole possession of second place winning 2 of 3 at Northern Territory

Baseball South Australia is able to win the series against Western Australia.

Lastly, Baseball Victoria wins 2 of 3 against Baseball New South Wales.

Standings
  1. Baseball Queensland 13-2
  2. Baseball Tasmania 10-5
  3. MLB Australia 10-5
  4. Baseball New South Wales 9-6
  5. Baseball Victoria 9-6
  6. Baseball Western Australia 8-7
  7. Baseball South Australia 7-8
  8. Baseball Northern Territory 5-10
  9. MLB New Zealand 4-11
  10. Baseball Auckland 0-15

Player Spot Light
Cooper Goddard, 17, from Sydney, leads Baseball Queensland in average on the year. Cooper has 4 HRS, 21 RBI, and a 1.226 OPS. Goddard could be a top draft pick come June.

Sad News

I am going to have to reboot this franchise. Both my backup and save file got corrupted this morning. My last backup is about 5 years ago. Thus I will be ending this iteration of this dynasty.... However I will be starting back over from 2016 on a thread with a similar title. I hope this can lead to more user interaction to shape how the ABL grows. I will be making a post shortly.
