This is debatable, imho. Just one name is all one needs to dispute this: Jose Oquendo of the Cardinals. Jose is not controlled by manager Mike Matheny on whether the Cards baserunner is sent home on a play or held up. Jose uses his own judgement. So yes, a coach alone theoretically could reduce/increase outs and/or increase/decrease runs scored.

First-base coaches are more important than you think.

That being said, I don't think it's likely that we'll ever have more coaches in game, so this discussion is pretty much academic.
My friend, I do realize your are just merely expressing your opinion here which is just fine but I must respectfully disagree with you. I think that if we keep requesting this that eventually 1B and 3B coaches and maybe bullpen coaches will make it into the game. It's just a matter of creating a use for them that will add immersion to the game - thus making worth the company's expense of coding them into the game.

My problem with this is, yes one man may have different judgement then another. But the level of judgement at the ML level is so high that essentially they are all basically interchangeable.

You'll have to be a better man than I am to convince Markus of that I truly hope you guys can do it, cause I'd love to see a full set of coaches, but I'm not holding my breath.

truthfully, I think he feels it's a pain in the arse to code lol

EDIT: but I also know Markus will do what he feels will make his base happy....but I just get the feeling he thinks this issue is more trouble than it's worth. I myself would like to see it implemented, but he is the lead developer, and ultimately, it's his decision.

I've had my share of moments trying to wrap my head around how these kinds of additions could add immersion, etc... I'm not sure yet, but I'm a bit closer.

Fundamentally, we have to solve the first problem: have a history table of record that can present the entire coaching staff for that year or period of that year. Right now, my primary goal in regard to this area is to at least be able to look at any year in a team's history and see the manager of record without a great deal of detective work. I think baseball reference displays it readily, IIRC. We need to get a first step in place and build on it from there.

Somewhere I had a link to one of the reference pages that enabled the user to select a team and see the entire coaching staff that year. I hope one day, we can do that as well, but like Lukas, I think that's a long way off. OTOH, simply a manager of record shouldn't be. We need that.

I like the idea if it's employed optionally - added base coaches, extra spring training coach, strength coach, bullpen coach, hell why not go the full gamut and get into marketing and media contracts - as optional detail

I'm not even saying we need to go that far...why do people around here take a simple and perhaps decent idea, and turn it into something it was NEVER intended to be? I suggested full staff for minor leaguers, but I feel you are taking what is a decent idea, and exaggerating it because you personally don't like it. This, despite the idea in which I stated, it could be totally optional.

Could not agree more some I would like to see but don't know how they can fit in the game. For example the game has a Trainer teams in real life have both a trainer strength and conditioning coach but I don't know what the difference is.
For sure implement bases coaches and bullpen. Right now the coaches have teaching hitting teaching pitching and fielding you can add teaching base running skills and catching skills

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong but I thought one of the base coaches taught outfield defense skills?

Perhaps we could break down the coaches where the hitting coach teaches hitting, the pitching coach teaches pitching, the 1B coach teaches baserunning, the 3B coach teaches fielding and the bullpen coach could teach catching skills? Just trying to think outloud here.

I know that where there's a will there's a way to make this possible. Just a matter of finding that way...

I don't understand why anyone argues against features in this game, so long as there's an on/off switch to them. It's not like the game is a memory hog and we're all barely scraping by on the tech end.

If the management is fine with programming in more coaches, let them. If you don't want to play with them, turn them off. How other people play their game is none of my business.

I've been playing computer sim baseball for 28 years now. I have played 28 seasons. Every day in real life corresponds to a day in the life of my league and I never play ahead by more than a couple of days. I don't expect everyone else to jump on my bandwagon, either.

This.

You can't really measure the effect of a base coach in real life and in the game it would just add more hassle having to sign / extend / release more staff members. So this won't make the game anytime soon.

Trainers deal with injuries. S&T coaches deal with fitness and injury prevention: designing personalized weightlifting regimens, making sure pitchers work out enough but not too much in between starts, etc. Think of one as the doctor and the other as the guy at Gold's Gym.

There is no one formula. Every team does it differently. I made a suggestion like this upthread

I don't think MLB has a fixed formula for this, only the manager is required, and rules are made to regulate the behavior of base coaches. Staff size and responsibilities may vary, and they're pretty similar from club to club. But there are differences
