If I can make like Spinal Tap and crank my number of players to 11, then I would.

But then again, Tram ain't very bright, if my historical is to be believed...

It's funny. I never thought of Edmonds as a HOF when he was playing. Part of it maybe that I didn't really pay attention to how good of a hitter he is, or maybe it was the fact that I hated that he would make routine plays look hard by diving for balls that someone like Andruw Jones would have run down in a jog.

Here is an update on the voting so far through 13 ballots. I need to hear from stormfall if his post was a ballot or an opinion piece before I'll count it (so I'll ask again stormfall: Is your ballot just Griffey Jr. and Martinez and nobody else?). Get your ballots in folks. The announcement is Wednesday January 6th, 2016, and I'll take them until just before it's announced. Anyway, here it is through 13 (anyone not listed has zero votes):

J. Bagwell 53.8%
B. Bonds 30.8%
R. Clemens 30.8%
J. Edmonds 15.4%
K. Griffey Jr. 100.0%
T. Hoffman 38.5%
J. Kent 15.4%
E. Martinez 46.2%
F. McGriff 38.5%
M. Mussina 30.8%
M. Piazza 76.9%
T. Raines Sr. 84.6%
C. Schilling 38.5%
G. Sheffield 23.1%
L. Smith 7.7%
A. Trammell 53.8%
B. Wagner 7.7%
L. Walker 15.4%
Write-In (J. Jackson 15.4%, H. Baines 7.7%, L. Whitaker 7.7%)

Candidates require 75% for enshrinement, so currently we've put Griffey Jr., Raines Sr., and Piazza in our little version of the HOF. The "zero" club so far is:

G. Anderson, B. Ausmus, L. Castillo, D. Eckstein, N. Garciaparra, T. Glaus, M. Grudzielanek, M. Hampton, J. Kendall, M. Lowell, M. McGwire, S. Sosa, Mike Sweeney, and Randy Winn. Out of that group of 14, the only two I'd put in are McGwire and Sosa, but I had no room on my ballot.

My ten are Bagwell, Bonds, Clemens, Griffey, Edgar, Mussina, Piazza, Raines, Schilling, and Walker.

With an unlimited ballot, I'd also vote for Edmonds, Kent, McGriff, McGwire, Sheffield, Sosa, and Trammell.

I'm always a little surprised Kent doesn't get more support. He has one of the best offensive profiles for a 2B ever. I know, it was an offensive era. But he still was a really good hitter.

Kent was a good hitter, even taking his sudden increase in offensive value in his 30's at face value. Having a few seasons of .300/30/100 looks pretty on the surface, but less so in an era where those numbers were relatively commonplace. Lou Whitaker and Bobby Grich were of the same value offensively for their era as Kent was to his. Not to mention Lou and Bobby having multiple Gold Glove Awards in their trophy case when Kent was always a rather pedestrian 2B. If there's no room in the Hall for Whitaker and Grich, there really shouldn't be for Kent.

Why is there no love for Billy Wagner? The guy was 5-10 and threw 100 MPH. That right there ought to be enough to get you in the Hall of Fame!

True enough on all accounts. I think in the long run though, chicks and HOF voters dig the long ball, even in the "questionable" era. Kent's counting stats just look better, even if OPS+ is roughly equal and the others have better overall WARs. The MVP is certainly worth something also.

Definitely a valid debate both ways.

Well, it is a bit of an overcrowded ballot QD. Hopefully, the BBWAA will be able to clean up some of their mess this year and hopefully he remains on it until such a time as he can be voted in. Closers are the toughest to quantify because they only pitch about 70 innings a year, and yet they are among the most important innings there are. Nothing is more of a punch in the gut than a blown 9th inning save.

Maybe the BBWAA should consider an unlimited ballot just to clean up some of their mess.

I truly believe his glove makes him a borderline candidate at best. I have him borderline-in, but I can also see the case for not putting him in.
