Fictional for solo (sometimes a mix of scrub real players with fictional) and historic real for on-line leagues.

Historical with a mix of fictional players to fill up the minors and compete with the prospects in the minors.

I never thought I would get into the fictional stuff either, but it is absolutely awesome. The best part of it is making up your own cities, nicknames, logos, parks, etc.. for a solo league.

Probably real players. I just like being able to recognize the players, especially the prospects as they get older. Plus, it turns in to a fictional league later on.

I prefer real players by far. I used a fictional league to tweak some of the settings and there's no doubt it can be fun and addicitive, but for me there's nothing like playing with the players we all watch year in and year out.
I happen to play all star type league's where I use players from all era's mixed into a 24 team league. Where Ruth, Gehrig, Mantle, Dimaggio, Cy Young, Koufax, Rose, Schmidt, Brett, Pedro, Clemens, Bonds and McGwire all play with and against each other. |

Historical, current real, fictional.
Edit: The league I run is historical, I am in a fictional league, and I am in a modern real league. Solo I play all three.

If I had to pick I would say real... but I also really like fictional too.

Fictional. The best part is that first day when you spend 6 hours setting up the leagues, the teams, logos, etc. Fun stuff!

Fictional here too...
I used to start my solo league sim careers using ONLY real players, but during OOTP3 I started using fictional players and haven't looked back. The only time I will use real players for OOTP5 will be to play out a full season with my Phils... |

Fictional third major league, with a few real players who disappeared from the real majors. Did Bob Horner, Brad Komminsk, Mark Eichhorn, Phil Bradley, Ben McDonald, Ernie Whitt, Ken Phelps and former Tigers phenom Rob Ritchie really retire? No, of course not, that was just the excuse they used to get out of their contracts and go play for the Continental League.
