Great idea, BB. Although, I'd still settle for a simple confirmation window. Markus? Steve?

Here's one: the ability to control what skills minor leaguers focus on, ala Spring Training. Right now, the only area of control is having him learn a new precision (with imprecise tradeoffs). In reality, teams strategize with their minor league coaches what skills they want their youngsters to focus on (like the A's, with taking walks, or the Rays, with pitchers getting injured). It doesn't need to even have a major impact on the game, just something to play around with in order to be able to do more with the minor league system.
![]() Also, add baserunning/stealing as a skill to focus on along with contact, power, eye, fielding and learn a new position. That's something that should be improvable (if that's a word). |

Possibly silly and certainly difficult to impliment idea but which makes huge sense to me
When creating a league, give the option of creating it specificaly as an on-line league. The only difference between a normal league and an on-line league would be that the on-line league would set up accounts for each team and the commissioner. The commissioner could also have an option for which team he is controlling, or none as the case may be.These accounts would need to be password protected of course so only the owner could access them. At any time a league could toggled on or off of the on-line league mode with the commish password, just like it is now. The advantage of this would be as follows. Presently, any owner can access any team and make free agent offers for any team unless the team is protected by a password. If the team is password protected, owners cannot view other teams. These problems would be gone as the account would only let the owner modify or make offers for his own team. Additionaly, this would solve the long-standing problem of using scouts in on-line leagues. Right now, when you view a player his scouting report is the report by that team's scout. Under the account system, any and all players viewed would be by your scout. I am sure this would take a lot of coding but would not be impossible. There may be flaws in at as well, but it seemed like a good idea to me.

You forgot:
In-game trading of draft picks. That's one of the most talked about changes ever. Seriously. And the Spring Training games that got left out of this version are big too. |

How about the following ideas too:
1) Being able to sim and sit and watch the computer play itself without having to press a key to continue play? While busy I enjoy watching computer vs computer games. 2) Pick-off move should have more adverse consequences or is this built into the pitch count? 3) A little more color commentary would be nice. 4) A more realistic bull-pen scenario would be great. 5) More and easier to use varities in Stadiums is a plus. 6) The ability to export/import teams or Free Agents into the FA pool would be nice so that we can add historical players into an existing game environment either as the season progresses or at the end of the season to be used for the next. 7) A split screen editor where we can pull up two teams either from the pros or minors or both and drag and drop players from one team to the other and edit certain stats. 8) More stats on teams statistics and located in a more visable and easier location. This would include both Team Vs Team and Player Vs Opponents type stats. 9) Widen the players last name field by at least 4 spaces (maybe chg to a small font in order to do this) so that we could "tag" our historical players as follows: Mantle'62Y or Saberhagen'85Ro - meaning Mantle 1962 Yanks and Saberhagen 1985 Royals. See the soon to be complete: Spanky's All-Time Greats file for a better appreciation of this small request. 10) Give some more meaning to the question: "Do you want to argue with the UMP?" Maybe make it so that one takes a chance of getting ejected vs maybe getting a future break on an in-game close call or two. Hey, Leo the Lip didn't argue with Umps for nothing! 11) I really enjoy the sound file that plays during the games - it kinda make me feel I'm in the ball-park. You might want to expand on this feature a little. 12) Allow us to edit the players contract after he's signed up for a multi-year contract. This way we can set-up our leagues on a more even and level basis if we are going to go on-line. 13) Oh yeah, I also noticed in the process of putting together my historical league with the All-Time greats that many players like the 1909 Ty Cobb and many other greats would agree to a minor league contract. Now that's ridiculous! Can we have an option to chosee between 3 to 5 mininums salaries that each player, under any circumstance, would require before signing? This would be over and above the League minimum. 14) Can you give us a sneak preview and tell us now what the top 10 or 15 priorties for new features might be and when can we expect them? 15) Oh yeah, what about scouts? They should be way more interactive and possibly do a better job of scounting in the FA pool and make suggestions about trades with other teams to include financial incentives. The function of the "scout" should be the same as if the Owner, Manager, or game player were doing the same thing. The robo scout's skills and feedback would, of course, be commeasurate with his contract or salary and experience. Say a team finishes 1st or last, the scouts abilities are affected. Keep up the great work. OOTP is truely the baseball gamers game! Even with what you have already, I look forward to playing a couple three or four games everyday! Regards Spanky |

I have two quibles with the current system, you cannot place these players in to the amateur draft and it f's up spring training for on-line leagues, but it is very handy nonetheless.

Thanks for pointing this out but I already knew that.
Besides knowing the Lahman ID# makes it painfully slow do locate and setup the players. What I'm trying to say is this: Once we make up teams and or have populated our FA System (from the Lahman DB), it would be nice to be able to "export" all players into a file which may then be used to "import" the players into another entirely different league. We should be able to "export" and make up individual teams or FA pools - "portability." Regards, Spanky |

What about the inclusion of player mood changes in the game, so when a player is unhappy his performance is slightly down...Thus adding to the manager aspect of the game with more player interaction and more reasons to change a lineup
He could be unhappy for various reasons including for example:- 1 Wants a new contract 2 Unhappy with another player 3 Unhappy about the teams league position 4 Wants to be in the starting lineup 5 Needs reassurance on his future Just some ideas........What do you think?? |

There does`nt seem to be enough on the plate options available....."Swing away" and "bunt for a hit" seems to be a little basic to me....If you had ball by ball plays, you could designate the batter to have a more defensive or offensive plate attitude depending on the count.............
I`m sure there is room for more options here........ Last edited by Crabster; 06-24-2003 at 02:03 PM. |

1 More PbP options to give us folks who don`t sim games more realism on the everyday plays........even include a ball by ball option.......
2 An everyday news page where more indepth day to day news is compiled on one page to make it all a little less confusing.........Like having a "Home" page........ 3 A "continue game" button so it`s more obvious when a day has been completed.....At this point your news page icon would flash when you have any unread news for the day......Like in "Championship manager" soccer sim. 4 If you change your starting lineup in the in-game lineup screen and then change your mind, and go back, it doesn`t remember what changes you`ve made and reverts back to your original lineup... If you see what I mean.......... Last edited by Crabster; 06-24-2003 at 01:59 PM. |

There also seems to be far to much ability to edit teams other than the one you are managing in manager mode........this could be taken out of the game.........For example:- I just edited another teams Promotional days and entry price together with changing their % use of utility players in their depth chart.........IMO I shouldn`t be able to do this even if I wanted to......................I put them back where they were.....needless to say.........but for cheats the temptation will always be there

What about the option to just let the game run as a pbp/ball by ball in real time, but without the insesant pressing of the mouse......and just stop the game for the vital plays or lineup changes when you need to ..........This is quite a user friendly way to play manager sims.........

Mound Visits from both your team and the opposition would be a valuable and informative addition to the game...

Make it more obvious on the pre-game lineup screen which outfielders are tired....If they are in the lineup their names are green even if they are tired...

The ability to actually assign your scouts to various players, teams or areas to find out about and to recieve E-mailed scouting reports on :-
1. Your next opposition in advance (Hot, Cold for example). 2. A player you are interested in. 3. New freeagents who would fill you weak spots well 4. Players who you have noticed but may not be as good as you think. 5. Another team`s Minor league games. This would make the scouts earn their money and interact with you more..They would be able to express their opinions and maybe influence your decisions a little. Include all the players who are on a hot or cold streak in the list.
I had 7 players on a hot streak once and only 5 of them were noted in the hot/cold lists. Last edited by Crabster; 06-26-2003 at 10:07 AM. |

I'd like to see at the end of every year, they give you a list of players who retired and were not automatically inducted into the HOF so we can pick and choose before the begining of each season. Would make things easier than going through and looking to see who hasn't already made it.

Blind the AI to my bid during the FA process. I can't see his bid, and I don't like him cheating by being able to see mine. Too many medicore players are getting outrageous contracts just because I happened to bid on them.
This can turn into an exploit ... I can systematically ruin the AIs financials by over-bidding on lots of people, letting the AI beat me, and bowing out to go over-bid on another player, only to be beaten again.
