State of the Organization
![]() Toronto Maple Leafs “State of the Organization” Staff To start off the year, the Leafs are in good hands personnel-wise. We have above average coaches and scouts. Only two staff members will be on the outs in Toronto, both scouts, who are Jason Tippin and Greg Rous. Both men are very poor at judging the current ability of players, and we will be upgrading from those two ASAP. Other than that, we are in no need to change anything up, unless an opportunity pops up that’s impossible to pass up. Right now we are spending $3,665,000 on our staff, with me included in that total, so we have a lot of flexibility. ![]() ![]() ![]() NHL Roster Same story here, the Leafs are pretty stable in this department. Only worry is David Clarkson. He’s underperforming his $5.25M contract, and is signed until 2020. Clarkson won’t be getting any better, and will be shopped around. Not sure what the last GM here was doing acquiring this guy in the offseason, but this will get fixed. We will look to trade Clarkson very early, with the best case scenario of parting ways before the start of the season, and getting a replacement or a goaltender in return. If the latter happens, expect Bernier or Reimer to be shipped for the best offer. The Leafs do also have about $3M to spend on Free Agents, so we could also make a quick sign before the season gets underway. ![]() Prospects The Maple Leafs have some prospects that could turn into solid players in the NHL, most notably Stuart Percy of the Marlies, and Zach Yuen, currently playing for Orlando. We are in win-now mode, and any prospect could be dealt for NHL help. However, if a star prospect is presented to us, we will give it thought. We also have a lot of unsigned draftees, with currently 5 unsigned players projected to be at least a 7.0 rated player. Those 5 players could start right away with the Marlies once signed, while the rest would most likely start with Orlando. ![]() ![]() ![]() Matthew Burkart - General Manager

Scouts
I would be a little concerned with your scouts that are average evaluation and good at prospects. While you have a lot more scouts than my team, I would still swap out a couple those scouts for above average (or better) ratings because an above average of rating of 12 means they are just marginally competent to get the player skills right. Average skills are a 10 or 11...
I discovered that just now in my game. scout Frank Mahavolich rated RW Ales Hemsky as a 7.0 player and when I got him on the team? He is 6.5a and I essentially just added $1.5M to my payroll for the same skill player... My fault was not assigning a better scout and even when I knew Mahavolich was only above average evaluating ability, his ability in coaching forwards (12) sometimes gives me insight if the player is a coach killer or doesn't respond to instruction. I didn't get lucky this time! |
