The White Sox and Orioles play in the ALDS. The teams finished 9-9 against each other during the season, so anything can happen here. Keep on eye on Wiley Piatt. Chicago wants to start him three straight games. Make a little sense...he's 3-0 against the Orioles.

The Phillies and Superbas will play in the NLDS. The Phillies hold an 11-9 edge against Brooklyn, but Bill Donovan of the Superbas says, "When it's a best of three...anything is possible. Im 5-0 against them and i plan to pitch my best."

1901 Division Series

Twib:

ALDS Game 1: With a 6 run 3rd inning and some key errors by the White Sox, the Orioles took a 1-0 series lead. Donlin, who had a key triple in the 3rd pretty much put the game away early as Chicago couldn't make up the ground fast enough. The White Sox had scored 2 runs in ther top of the ninth, but a diving catch by Dunn in right sealed the opening victory.

NLDS Game 1: Duggleby had a 5-5 tie going into the top of the 9th, but the Superbas found a way to break that tie and take a 1-0 series lead. Keeler hit a double off of Duggleby and scored 3 RBIs in the 9th to put the Phillies on the brink of elimination.

ALDS Game 2:
5 runs in the top of the 1st, some great pitching by Jerry Nops is all the Orioles needed to advance to the ALCS! The White Sox left the field feeling one got away from them as they committed FOUR errors in the game. Frank Isbell, who commited two of the errors hung his head in the dugout, and Clark Griffith had this to say, "Defense is what its all about. We had none today."

NLDS Game 2:
Ed Delahanty put the Phillies on his shoulders going 2 for 4 with 3 RBI as Philadelphia tied up the series with the Superbas. Red Donohue gave up 1 run on 8 hits to force a deciding game 3 back in Brooklyn.

NLDS Game 3:
This time, Bill Duggleby was on the winning side of the scoreboard as the Phillies eliminated the Superbas with an 8-5 victory in the final game of the series. Delahanty, was the go to guy again as he went 2 for 3 with 5 RBI. After losing game 1, people began to doubt that Philadelphia could win two in a row in a short series like this, but Delahanty wasn't fazed one bit.
Delahanty: "When it comes to a stage like this, you have to play your part in the play. We did that as team in this series."

The ALCS will feature the Orioles and the Americans in a best of five. Cy Young and his great pitching will try to undo the good hitting that Baltimore has.
Cy Young: "They beat us 11 times during the season and they know how to hit me. Wont be an easy series."
The Orioles know that the Americans have the best pitching in baseball.
Jimmy Williams: "When you have a pitcher on the mound named Cy, you kind of wonder if he makes mistakes. He does...just not too many of them."

Its a battle for Pennsylvania bragging rights as the Philadelphia Phillies will meet the Pittsburgh Pirates in the NLCS. Ed Delahanty who is having a great postseason had this to say.
Ed Delahanty: "This series is going to be long and tight. Honus Wagner and Jack Chesbro are going to give us a lot of trouble. We have to be ready for them."
The Phillies were 8-12 against the Pirates this season.
Jack Chesbro: "Just because we beat them 12 times during the season...doesnt mean its gonna turn out that way in a best of five.

1901 Championship Series

Twib:

ALCS Game 1: Cy Young pitches a gem as Boston beats the Orioles 5-2 in game 1. Baltimore 's bats could only muster up 4 hits against the most dominant pitcher in baseball.
Cy Young: "I went out there and made sure to keep them off base. In front of our home crowd, I had to pitch well. :

NLCS Game 1: Deacon Phillipe had good game as well as the Pirates took game 1 over the Phillies. Philadelphia's Donahue also pitched well, but the five errors committed by the Phillies was too overwhelming to make up.
Ron Donahue: "Too many mistakes! Simple as that."

ALCS Game 2: 6 hits by George Winter and the Americans pounded the Orioles 8-2 in the second game of the best of five ALCS. The Orioles will try to stave off elimination in front of their home crowd in game three.
Jerry Nops: "They won their two here in their park. Now it's out turn."

NLCS Game 2: The Phillies evened up their series with the Pirates with an awesome pitching performance by Bill Duggleby as they shut them out 5-0. Duggleby pitched some nasty curveballs that left the Pirates baffled.
Bill Duggleby: "I only got one strikeout, but when they put the ball in play, my guys were there to pick up the ball."

ALCS Game 3: The Baltimore bats finally woke up in the ALCS. They destroyed Cy Young and the Americans and now only trail Boston 2-1 in the series. Donlin and Williams hit two dingers in the game that left Orioles fans rejuvenated.
Mike Donlin: "We finally got to Cy!"

NLCS Game 3: A blast by Honus Wagner in the top of the 9th inning was the star of the show as the Pirates beat the Phillies 4 to 1 to take a 2-1 series lead. Deacon Phillipe pitched a complete game and would have been a shutout except for an error in the 9th.
Deacon Phillipe: "I did what i had to do. Now we just have to close this series out and get our pennant."

ALCS Game 4: Jerry Nops made up for his first outing and gave up only 6 hits and 1 run to help the Orioles tie the series at 2-2 with a 2-1 win over the Americans. It was another complete game for Jerry as Boston really couldnt get many clean hits. The deciding game 5 will be back in Huntington Avenue Grounds.
Jerry Nops:" I felt a little stiffness this morning, but it was gone as soon as we won the game. Dont know where it went."

NLCS Game 4: The Pittsburgh Pirates clinched the NL pennant and advanced to the first ever MLB World Series by clocking 17 hits off of Duggleby with a 6-4 win over the Phillies. Jack Chesbro who pitched another complete game had 6 strikeouts while only giving up 4 runs.
Jack Chesbro:" To win this series feels so good. I know now that we are team that can win it all."

ALCS Game 5: The deciding games are always special here at RJL Sports, so we will always show a little more when there is one game to win it all. Cy Young was one of the best pitchers in baseball this year, but that didnt quite matter as the Orioles pulled off the upset and beat the Boston Americans 6-3 to advance to the World Series. Joe McGinnity was called upon to pitch game 5 and did the job. The Boston faithful went home with their heads hung low as their Americans, who led the way practically throughout the entire season, could not make it to the final round.
Cy Young: "Dont know what happened. Up two games to none and we couldnt get that last win to put us in the world series. I just didnt do my job today."
Joe McGinnity: "What a comeback. I knew that this team could pull together and do it. I had nothing but confidence that we would rally."

The Pittsburgh Pirates are first in the NL in batting and hitting. The Baltimore Orioles scored more runs than anyone in the majors in 1901. So will it be a high scoring world series, or will pitching take center stage?
Jerry Nops: "I think it's gonna come down to defense. The pitching on both teams is going to be pretty even. Whoever makes the least amount of mistakes is going to win it all."
Jack Chesbro: "My pitching is going to be key. "
Honus Wagner: " We just have to go out there and play...and play well."
Mike Donlin: "Hey, we beat Boston, now we're gonna beat Pittsburgh."

1901 World Series

Twib:

WS game 1:
Honus Wagner went 3 for 4 and scored 4 times as the Pirates took game 1 of the 1901 world series. Deacon Phillippe gave up only 1 run to go 3-0 in the postseason. Baltimore could not get things going at all in the game as Phillippe pitched a great game.
Honus Wagner: He pitched well and our team hit well. You know what that equals? A win!

WS Game 2:

Four runs in the 1st inning for Baltimore, 1 in the 2nd, 1 in the 3rd and the Orioles have a 6-1 lead after 3. But the Pirates chipped away scoring 1 in the 4th, 2 in the 5th, and 2 in the 6th to be tied 6-6 going into the bottom of the 9th. Then Chief Zimmer came up to bat in the 9th with 1 out and two on base and sent a line drive single to right that allowed to score Honus Wagner from 2nd base. A 7-6 win and the Pirates lead the series 2-0.
Chief Zimmer: "Foreman threw me a curveball that kinda just hung there. There was nothing to do but put it into the outfield. Good thing I hit it hard or Honus might not have been able to score."

WS Game 3: This time, Fred Clarke was the hero of this game as the Pirates are now just one game away from the first ever world series title. The score was tied at 4 until Clarke blasted a 3-run homer in the 9th to put Pittsburgh ahead by 3 runs. Then they added three more runs for good measure and took a 3-0 series lead.
Fred Clarke: "We now had to win a game at Oriole Park. We had to show them that they couldnt beat us no matter where we played."

Twib: WS game 4

Tommy Leach went 2 for 2 with both hits being triples in this game and put the Orioles away for good. The 9-5 win gave the Pirates a 4-0 clean sweep of the 1901 world series and a fitting end to a dominant season. Jerry Nops again had trouble with the Pirates as he just couldnt get hitters out. The Pirates drank the champagne and poured it all over themselves in celebration.
World Series MVP Fred Clarke: "This one is for the steel city and all our fans. And this one will be the first of many as we plan to stick around for awhile. We have Honus, Jack, myself, Tommy, Deacon and the Chief. We still have a lot more to do, but we will celebrate this one for now. To win the FIRST world series is an honor and we accept it with great humility!"

1902 Preseason

Twib:

A few changes for 1902. First the Milwaukee Brewers transform into the St. Louis Browns and the Cleveland Indians become the Cleveland Broncos by player choice as the legend goes for that team.

According to predictions, the Boston Americans and the defending champions, the Pittsburgh Pirates, are overwhelmingly chosen to win the leagues, while the White Sox, Broncos, Superbas and Orphans are selected for their respective league's division series.

Delahanty, Wagner, Young and Mathewson are the choices for the best hitters and pitchers. A little like last year, but i'm not counting out Nap Lajoie and Fred Clarke. They will be strong as well!!

April is again a short month but the Americans, Pirates, Browns, Reds, and Superbas are out of the gate fast to start the 1902 Pennant race. Roy Thomas of the Phillies starts out batting at a .500 clip including a huge base hit in a game against the New York Giants.
Roy Thomas(PHP): "It looks like I found my early season stroke. In the offseason i started bringing my bat down a little with my swing and Im hitting the ball better."

Deacon Phillippe of the Pirates already has 3 wins in the early season, and has yet to give up an earned run in three starts, but you wouldnt know that by talking with him though.
Deacon Phillippe(PIT): "I really don't think im pitching that well. I know my ERA is 0.00, but i still think i could pitch better."

I don't know. How much better can you pitch when you have thrown 3 straight shutouts? We shall see...
