September 2025
9/3/2025
Star SP Bryan Hoeing was taken out of today’s game after feeling pain in his throwing shoulder. The 2-time Pitcher of the Year will be sidelined for the remainder of the season, undergoing treatment for rotator cuff inflammation. Recovery is expected to take at least 3 months. Hoeing’s 9-6 record this season does little to emphasis the pitcher’s dominance on the mound. In 27 starts, Hoeing posted an ERA of 2.78, surrendering 28 walks while striking out 134, and earned a 5.4 WAR. 9/17/2025 CF Brad Sutherland once again finds himself on the DL. Having just returned from a 4 week stint, Sutherland managed to injure himself while running the bases in today’s game against the Nationals. The 23 year old is expected to miss at least 5 weeks with a strained MCL. This recent string of injuries has taken a toll on Sutherland’s performance, as his BA has dropped nearly 20 points in the last month and a half. Sutherland was putting together his best season yet, with a line of .289/.358/.553 and a 4.9 WAR. However, with so much time on the DL, fans are beginning to wonder if he is worth his price tag. 9/18/2025 Fort Wayne TinCap MR Hyun-tae Park announced his retirement. The 33 year old reliever was selected in the 3rd round of the Korean Baseball Organization draft by the Lotte Giants in 2014. He was released the following year and signed with the Padres with a minor league contract. Park was never able to break into the Majors, but finishes his minor league career with 197 games, 54 starts, a 29-18 record, 12 saves, and a lifetime ERA of 4.26. 9/19/2025 Eugene Emeralds manager Han-joon Yoo has decided to leave the team and pursue new opportunities. Meanwhile, Peoria’s pitching coach Jayson Durocher, Padre bench coach Victor Moreno, TinCaps hitting coach Joel McKeon, and Padre hitting coach John Farrell have all agreed to extensions with the organization. 9/21/2025 Hitting coach David Cook of the Padres’ Dominican Summer League team has decided to leave the organization. 9/23/2025 El Paso manager Akinori Iwamura has opted to leave the organization. 9/25/2025 Lake Elsinore pitching coach Clay Bellinger has decided to leave the organization. 9/27/2025 San Antonio Missions MR Edgardo Hernandez has announced his retirement. The 33 year old signed a minor league deal with the Padres in 2019, but failed to make an appearance with the big league club. Hernandez ends his minor league career with an ERA of 3.51 over 168 games. Monthly Review The Padres went 17-9 in September, bringing their overall record to 93-63. A 6 game winning streak has the team in 1st place, a game ahead of the Dodgers. 6 games remain in this season, with the Padres playing their final series against LA, which will undoubtedly determine who wins the West. Monthly Awards AL: Top Batter – Sancho Acevedo (.447 BA, 7 HR, 28 RBI, 20 R), Royals Top Pitcher – Keith Murdock (6-0, 47 K, 1.42 ERA), Royals Rookie – Jesus Rodriguez (.333 BA, 7 HR, 23 RBI, 25 R), Tigers NL: Top Batter – Jacob Heyward (.316 BA, 10 HR, 19 RBI, 20 R), Marlins Top Pitcher – Gustavo Spotelli (4-0, 37 K, 2.12 ERA), Padres Rookie – Roger Stackhous (.368 BA, 3 HR, 9 RBI, 11 R), Crusaders |

End of Season 2025
The San Diego Padres finished in 1st place in the West, despite having trailed the Dodgers for the majority of the season. The Padres went on an incredible tear to end the season, winning 11 of their final 12 games. They finished with a record of 98-64, 4 games ahead of LA.

Season Review 2025
The Good
C Jose Rodriguez .262/.369/.427, 23 HR, 73 RBI, 4.3 WAR. Rodriguez put together a solid season in his second year as the club’s #1 catcher. At just 25 years of age, Rodriguez showed the first glimpses of his tremendous power potential, improving on the 8 HR he hit last year. The former 27th round draft pick continues to stun the baseball world. 1B Elroy Lachance .299/.342/.451, 19 HR, 80 RBI, 3.4 WAR. Lachance is quietly putting together a very solid career. His contributions to the team are even more impressive when you consider the fact that he signed with the organization as an undrafted free agent. 3B Adrian Martinez .318/.380/.550, 36 HR, 92 RBI, 7.8 WAR. What a trade for the Padres. Martinez was an absolute beast for his new club, and well worth the cost. He led the NL in Hits, HR, and WAR (Batters), and his .318 BA was 2nd best in the NL. SS Brendan Rodgers .284/.347/.443, 14 HR, 24 SB, 3.0 WAR. This past season was the first time in his 9 year career that Rodgers was unable to play a full season. Despite missing significant time, Rodgers still managed to produce solid numbers for the club. LF Bernardo Orosco .314/.388/.449, 10 HR, 72 RBI, 50 SB, 6.3 WAR. Orosco is another midseason transaction that paid off well for the Padres. His 50 SB would have led the NL, except that he didn’t end up qualifying for the leaderboards. RF Tim Elmore .262/.311/.423, 21 HR, 5.0 WAR. At just 22 years of age, the future is bright for Elmore, and the Padres can’t wait to see how he develops. The biggest concern for this youngster is his 147 K. Elmore is a true student of the game, so the Padres are hoping that with the right coaching, they can cut down that number. SP Eric Confer 16-9, 2.88 ERA 215.2 IP, 196 K, 65 BB, 4.1 WAR. In what was a down year for most of the pitching staff, Confer shone the brightest. Over the last 3 seasons, Confer has recorded an incredible record of 53-19. The Bad The pitching staff. Truth be told, it’s hard to knock this group, since as a whole, they are probably in the top 3-4 in the NL. But coming from last season, in which the pitching staff was just so overwhelmingly dominate, one can’t help but to be a little disappointed with their performance this season. Nearly every pitcher saw a dip in their performance, and turning over the game to the bullpen just didn’t feel like a sure thing. In what amounted to be a very good season, I suppose I’m just a little overcritical of their play |

2026 Rule Changes
(i) Active roster size has been lowered to 24 players. When asked for a comment, Mr. Forel expressed his displeasure at this development. “Having had to deal with so many injuries this past season, having one less roster spot could really put us in a jam if we find ourselves in that position again. I feel as though one less spot will mean more roster moves, which could be detrimental to the development of our young players. Not to mention the contract nightmares this change could cause.”
(ii) AL gets rid of the DH, citing the desire to “bring back a new level of strategy to the game.” |

2026 Free Agents
The Padres had no players file for free agency this year. The top players in the market are:
SP Drake Fellows – Brings the heat with excellent control – He could knock the wings off of a fly if he wanted to. Unfortunately, once you get past his fastball Fellows doesn’t have much to offer. His stuff is average at best, and coming off of a 5-20 season, contenders will probably pass on this one. 2B Jan Hernandez – An international free agent, Jan possesses some quality tools. Average contact with above average power and a great eye. He’s not quite the player that he used to be, but he’s sure to be a nice addition to someone’s roster. LF Michael Conforto – Conforto has spent the majority of his career playing overseas in Japan. The 32 year old has average contact with above average power and eye. He also possesses tremendous gap power. He struggled in his brief stints in the ML, but perhaps he has refined his abilities in the foreign leagues. 1B Esteban Gonzalez – Average contact ability, above average power, and a superb eye. The former Cub has built a solid career and is looking to cash in. His defense, however remains suspect. SP Joo-Chan Kwon – Another international free agent, Kwon appears to be one of the best pitchers on the market at this moment. He has above average stuff and good control. In his arsenal he has a good cutter and split-finger, but his out-pitch is his changeup – It’s one of the best in the game. C Christian Lefebvre – Average across the board, with an above average arm. He won’t light up the stat sheet, but he’s solid and won’t hurt you either. 3B Tomas Moreno – Moreno’s game is all about power. Borderline average contact with above average power and eye. He’s an excellent fielder and possesses one of the strongest arms around. SP Kyle Kemp – An average starter. Suitable for a middle of the rotation or back end spot. Hitters have a tough time getting balls up in the air off him, so the infield will have to be on their toes. Won’t win any awards, but won’t hurt his team either. C Jesus Polanco – Another all around average catcher. Will be solid behind the plate and will contribute just enough offense to stay in the big leagues. The one thing that separates Polanco from other catchers is his speed. He’s surprisingly fast and could be dangerous on the base paths. SP Braeden Holub – An explosive, yet slightly unpredictable pitcher. He has a canon, topping out at 99 MPH, and hit balls are just pounded down into the ground. His stuff is electric, matching his heater with an above average splitter and a killer changeup. The knock against Holub is his control. His pitches have all the movement in the world, but once they leave his hand, there’s no telling where they’ll end up. Anyone signing him will be betting on high risk, high reward. |

2026 Spring Training
While you always have to take spring results with a grain of salt, the Padres did manage to post the second best Spring Training record in the MLB at 20-8. These early results have fan abuzz, although Padres owner John Moores seems to be expecting a drop off. Rumors are that he only expects the team to play .500 ball – surprising since the team is coming off of the heels of a great run last season. The players will surely be giving it their all, but with the team strapped for cash, midseason struggles may see a shakeup with the roster.

The 2026 Outlook
The Padres are looking to build upon last year’s success and bring home the franchise’s sixth championship. Owner John Moores opted to not allow GM Forel to spend any cash this offseason, so the squad remains largely intact. Syrio is hoping that team unity will be enough to get them over the hump this season.

2026 Key Players
C Jose Rodriguez – Entering just his third year in the league, the 25 year old has already established himself as one of the premiere catchers in the league. The word among the league’s scouts is that Rodriguez has hit his potential, and the Padres are hoping that he’ll remain in his prime for years to come. Rodriguez may be an average defender at best, but he is a force to be reckoned with at the plate. The young man boasts power and a willingness to hit to all sides of the field – making him a nightmare for pitchers. He owns a seasoned eye at the plate, and is savvy on the base paths. He’ll never lead the league in steals, but he picks his spots and can nab a dozen or so per year – Just enough to keep pitchers honest.
2B Chris McKinney – The Padres saw McKinney have a big jump in production last season and are hoping that he continues to build upon that success. In his sixth season in the league, Chris posted career bests in hits, HR, RBI, and OPS. However, questions still remain about his durability. While he experienced a remarkably healthy year in 2025, fans will remember the 7 months he missed in 2023 with a broken kneecap, and the 9 months he missed in 2024 with a ruptured MCL. Expect great things if the Padres can get another full season out of him this year. 3B Adrian Martinez – Fans are excited to see what Martinez can do with a full season with the club. Power is the name of the game with Martinez. He has a cannon for an arm, tremendous power at the plate, and is among the elite in making solid contact with the ball. He hit 36 HRs last year between his time with the Pirates and Padres, and he will surely be a force in the middle of San Diego’s lineup. SS Brendan Rodgers – Rodgers feels like the veteran in the lineup, despite just being 28 years old. He’s been a constant in the Padres’ roster for the past 9 years and will once again look to help anchor the lineup. Rodgers was on pace for another solid season last year, but a series of injuries late in the season derailed his plans. In 83 games, he posted a .284/.347/.443 line with 14 HR and 24 SB. He had a very average Spring Training, sparking concerns among fans and media that there may be lingering issues from those injuries. GM Forel, on the other hand, doesn’t seem to put too much stock into his spring troubles – “Rodgers has been the most consistent player to play for this franchise in the last decade. We know what we’re getting when we plug him into the lineup. I’m not going to start screaming that the sky is falling because he’s had a slow month.” LF Bernardo Orosco – The first part of the Padres’ young guns outfield unit. The 23 year old is entering his fourth season in the ML, and is one of the brightest young players in the league. In his first three years, Orosco has posted lines of: .368/.400/.503 .324/.375/.452 .314/.388/.449 (Combined Yankees/Padres) Many have claimed Orosco to be the next Ichiro. He has a tendency to expand the strikezone, but thanks to his superb hand-eye coordination, he consistently makes solid contact and puts the ball in play, no matter where the pitch is located. He’s also a demon on the base paths, combining amazing speed with an intelligence that surpasses his years. In his three year career, Orosco has already stolen 173 bases. CF Brad Sutherland – The most recognizable of San Diego’s trio of youngsters, Sutherland is already entering his sixth year in the league. Last season, the 23 year old finally showed glimpses of his potential, posting his best season to date. Sutherland owned a .289/.358/.553 line with 28 HR. However, there are still concerns aplenty about the young man’s health, as he has yet to progress through a season injury free. RF Tim Elmore – The last member of San Diego’s trio of 23 year old outfielders. Elmore is the least experienced of the group, but is looking to follow up a rather successful sophomore season with even greater results. His .262/.311/.423 line may not be impressive at first glance, but what is encouraging about these numbers is the massive leap from the previous season – an improvement of roughly 30-40 points across the board. The young right fielder also demonstrated a surprising amount of power, knocking in a higher than expected 21 HR. The jury is still out on Elmore, but the Padres are maintaining a hopeful outlook. SP Eric Confer – The 29 year old enters the 2026 season as San Diego’s #1. Confer has been one of the most dominant pitchers in baseball over the last four years – winning the Pitcher of the Year Award in 2023, and then finishing 3rd in the voting the following two years. On paper, Confer seems nothing more than an above average starter. He throws in the low-mid 90s, with decent stuff and pretty good control of all of his pitches. On paper, his skill set just doesn’t scream ace material. But the man knows how to pitch. Over the last 3 seasons, Confer has gone 21-2 with a 2.52 ERA and 7.1 WAR, 16-8 with a 2.34 ERA and 5.6 WAR, and 16-9 with a 2.88 ERA and 4.1 WAR, respectively. He may not overpower anyone, but he sure knows how to get them out. SP Bryan Hoeing – The heart and soul of the Padres’ pitching staff. The 2019 Rookie of the Year. A two time Pitcher of the Year. In seven full seasons in the MLB, Hoeing has posted an ERA above 3.00 just once. Part man, part myth. Hoeing continues to mystify batters with his 99 MPH fastball and six-pitch arsenal. Hoeing is sure to play an integral role in any success that San Diego hopes to achieve this season. |

Monthly Review
The Padres opened the season on an absolute tear – racking up 10 wins in a row to start the season. San Diego would finish the month with a record of 16-6, easily putting them atop the NL West. Hot on the heels of a fantastic spring, the Padres are looking to establish their dominance early on in this young season. May 2026
5/5/2026
The Padres offered minor league extensions to 11 players – 10 decided to re-sign with the organization. 5/7/2026 SP Beau Burrows threw a 5 hit shutout in today’s 9-0 win against the Cubs. Although he only struck out 2, Burrows had everything working and exhibited great command of all of his pitches. To date, Burrows is 4-0 with a 3.21 ERA, 21 K, and 15 BB. Also, the 2026 draft pool has been released! The Top 10 prospects are: RF Jorge “Fathead” Rodriguez – An above average prospect. The 22 year old has decent speed with some good pop, but he has a tendency to expand the strikezone, and swing and miss. CF Joseph Vipont – More of a defensive prospect than anything else. Vipont has plus-plus speed and a solid arm. He has a good eye at the plate that will allow him to work the count, but his swing mechanics leave much to be desired. C Jorge Martinez – With a bit of work, Martinez has the potential to be an everyday starter. The 19 year old has the potential to develop into an above average hitter with the ability to work counts and has enough power to capitalize on mistakes. He won’t ever be a star, but if he reaches his potential, he’ll be around the league for a while. 3B Dan Williams – One of the better offensive prospects in this year’s draft. If he can reach his potential, Williams should develop into an all around solid batter. What is lacking in this young man’s skill set is his defensive ability. Williams is very slow with a limited range at the hot corner. He has a decent arm, but poor footwork handicaps his play a little too often. Don’t expect him to ever win a Gold Glove. SS Juan Carlos Gomez – An average hitter with some decent pop. He’s a liability defensively, but does posses decent range despite his lack of speed. He’ll swing and miss too much to keep him in a starting lineup, but he’ll be suitable for a platoon or spot start role. SP Steve “Mr. Magnificent” Lawson – Should develop into a nice mid to back end starter. The 19 year old has an impressive 5 pitch repertoire, but he would be better off dropping his curve. Lawson is the type of player that never gives up on a play, and that determination should allow him to perhaps perform better than expected. CF Jesus Palma – Speed is the name of the game for Palma. He possesses fantastic speed and has great instincts on the base paths. He also isn’t shy about challenging the defense by dropping down a bunt and trying to beat it out. Unfortunately, beyond that, Palma leaves much to be desired. SP Juan Ramirez – Projects to be a good pitching prospect. Throws in the mid-high 90s and, with work, could develop some nasty stuff. Has average control – will lose a pitch every once in a while and get tagged. CF Jorge Morales – Will probably end up as a journeyman. There’s just enough talent to entice some team to give him a chance, but there’s not enough for him to be a regular starter. Could excel in a very limited role – his speed can be a game-changer. A nice option coming off of the bench to pinch run late in games. CF Alan Hartshorn – A great defender with very good speed. He has the potential to make an impact on the game out in the field, but don’t expect too much out of him at the plate. He has some pop and can drive the ball into the gaps, but he just doesn’t make enough contact to be a real threat. 5/21/2026 Stop me if you’ve heard this one before – CF Brad Sutherland is injured. Sutherland has yet to make it through a season injury-free, and this year is no different. Brad sprained a finger will making a diving catch in today’s game against the Astros, and is expected to miss a minimum of 3 weeks. If Sutherland was producing, fans may have been willing to overlook this latest entry into his injury history. But Sutherland has struggled this season – hitting a meager .181. Fans are declaring Sutherland a bust and believe that the Padres’ money would be better spent elsewhere. GM Forel has yet to comment on the situation. 5/25/2026 LF Bernardo Orosco has won the NL Player of the Week! In 27 AB, Orosco hit .481 with 2 HR and 6 RBI. 5/29/2026 24 year old SP Gustavo Spotelli tossed a 1 hitter today against the Dodgers. Spotelli chalked up 11 strikeouts, while conceding 2 walks. The hard throwing right hander was just nasty up on the hill today and led the Padres to a 5-0 victory. Monthly Review The Padres continue to dominate, going 19-9 in the month of May. The Padres have the best record in baseball at the moment at 35-15. While the season is still young, the Padres have already established a healthy lead in the division race. They now sit 11 games ahead of second place Colorado. Monthly Awards AL: Top Batter – Sergio Garcia (.309 BA, 12 HR, 29 RBI, 21 R), White Sox Top Pitcher – Erick Hurtado (12 SV, 20 K, 0.00 ERA), Blue Jays Rookie – Mauro Molina (.295 BA, 5 HR, 10 RBI, 15 R), Blue Jays NL: Top Batter – Bernardo Orosco (.328 BA, 7 HR, 21 RBI, 27 R), Padres Top Pitcher – Dave Thomas (4-0, 36 K, 0.81 ERA), Brewers Rookie – Joon-Suk Pae (.244 BA, 4 HR, 8 RBI, 9 R), Cardinals |

2026 Draft
SP Alfredo “Stool” Solis was the #1 overall pick in this year’s draft. The 20 year old out of Havana is seen by some to be a bit of a risky pick, but the A’s were willing to take a chance on him. Solis is a hard thrower who already has some fantastic stuff at such a young age. He has all the physical tools in the world, but there have been major concerns about his character. Leading up to the draft, Solis found himself making headlines for all of the wrong reasons. The young man made one poor decision after another, and his effort on the field has been called into question as well. With proper coaching and a positive veteran influence, Solis could become great, but for now, many are predicting that his mental makeup will prevent him from ever reaching his full potential.
With the 25th pick overall, the Padres selected high school pitcher Rudy Dailey. Although a starter at his high school in North Carolina, Dailey will most likely find a role in the bullpen. Dailey throws in the low 90s, and has a standard mix of fastball, curveball, and changeup, although truth be told, he’d be better off dropping his change. His fastball is solid, and his curve can be devastating, but his pitches have a tendency to flatten out at times. But, fitting in with San Diego’s philosophy, Dailey is a very smart and incredibly hard working player – allowing him to get the most out of his tools. |

June 2026
6/1/2026
Brad Sutherland suffered a setback in his recovery from a strained finger. He is expected to miss another 2 weeks as a result. 6/15/2026 LF Bernardo Orosco was named the NL Player of the Week! Orosco hit .500 with 5 RBIs over the last 7 days. For the season, Orosco is hitting .340, with a .401 OBP and 8 HR. 6/28/2026 RF Luis Flores has been suspended by the league for 4 games. Following a called third strike, Flores lost his cool and went on a tirade. The rant quickly escalated and Flores bumped the home plate umpire. He was immediately ejected from the game. When asked for a comment, GM Forel was not shy about expressing his displeasure – “It’s been made abundantly clear to Luis that this sort of behavior is unacceptable. This is baseball; emotions run high and I certainly won’t fault him for being passionate. But you can’t lose control like that. You have to realize where that line is and be composed enough to not cross it. Luis failed to do that today, and after our meeting, I doubt he’ll ever make that mistake again.” Monthly Review San Diego absolutely dominated in June. The team went an incredible 22-4 over the course of the month. The Padres maintain the best record in baseball at 57-19, and have built a 20.5 game lead over 2nd place Colorado. Monthly Awards AL: Top Batter – Sancho Acevedo (.414 BA, 4 HR, 21 RBI, 24 R), Royals Top Pitcher – Nacho Castillo (4-1, 42 K, 2.32 ERA), Mariners Rookie – Ruben Guerra (.357 BA, 3 HR, 14 RBI, 22 R), Astros NL: Top Batter – Adrian Martinez (.394 BA, 8 HR, 22 RBI, 26 R), Padres Top Pitcher – Chris Thompson (5-0, 36 K, 1.26 ERA), Padres Rookie – Alex Perez (.319 BA, 1 HR, 5 RBI, 13 R), Diamondbacks |
