We all know now playoffs are a big SS crapshoot. Simply, whoever's dumb enough to give out that Ryan Howard contract has no place being a GM.

Baez has elite-level power and that part of his game has never been in question. He has amazing bat speed and can hit the ball a ton. Any scouting report that claims he doesn't have much power is simply a bad scouting report. It is fair to question his command of the strike zone, as that is currently his biggest weakness, but he has plenty of power.

After giving it some thought I have decided to try and clean up the mess in Philly...not having much of anything to work with will make it a much greater challenge...plus as everyone is saying they are getting a new GM IRL anyway...might as well be me now! Thanks for all the input an chit chat! Been great to read

Ironically Ruben was not the GM of the Phillies when they won the WS. That credit should go to Pat Gillick and Ed Wade/Mike Arbuckle who drafted the entire core that put them over the top.

Exactly. Ruin Tomorrow Jr. then messed up the team afterwards. Giving Howard that dumb contract and trading away the farm for other aging guys destroying the franchise for years to come. For example: Every time I think about that Hunter Pence trade with the Astros, I feel the urge to throw up.

I took over the Cubs in 2015. I moved Castro and Baez immediately - the former to the Pirates for Marte and others and the latter to the Padres for Austin Hedges and a underrated SS named Jace Peterson. I'm a stickler for attitude and SO's and both Baez and Castro rubbed me the wrong way. Soler is a beast in my game as he hit 37 hr's and Rizzo hit 39. I made a few other moves that initial off-season and I won 100 games (I manage all my games). Oh and I made Don Mattingly my manager (after he was fired by the Dodgers at the end of 2014) and Farrell my Pitching coach (after he was fired from the Sox at the end of 2014) - not sure if that helped as the prior regime fired almost everyone. My farm system is ranked no. 1 and fan support is now thru the roof. I may have won 100 games but I lost in 5 games to the Dodgers in the first round of the playoffs, I believe it was due to my lack of elite pitching.

Decided to give the Twins a go. 3 weeks into the season and I'm 9-9 and it's been a real challenge so far. Freaking Mike Pelfrey gave up like 18 runs in 7 innings or so through his first 3 starts. That I could have done without......

Philadelphia Phillies has been my greatest challenge for this game. Took me until 2020 to start competing for first place again.

Yeah, unless you're a fan of the Yanks, Sox, Dodgers etc., rebuilding teams seem just much more fun.
After somehow fleecing LA, got Ryu for Wandy+some minor prospects, my Pirates are leading in the NLC in late May. Only moves I really made were call up Polanco after signing long term, signing O.Dotel, trading for Ike Davis, a backend BP lefty and didi gregorius(replaced Barnes). Didn't plan to be winning in 2014, but it's been fun so far^^

Die hard Phillies fan as well, and this team(organization) reminds me a lot of the 93 team that lost to the Blue Jays in the WS on a Joe Carter home run. Nearly everyone on that team had a "career year", and management decided to hold on to guys like Daulton, Morandini, Stocker, Hollins, and Eisenreich, hoping lightning would strike twice. Well guess what, it didn't, and the Phils didn't have a winning record again until 2001. And the teams were awful through that stretch, nearly losing 100 games in 1996, 97, and 2000.
And by the way, besides picking a team like the Cubs or Phils as a challenge, do what Wolf and I do, and play "stats only." For most OOTP members, that is way too much of a challenge, and prevents them from winning the WS every year or so. And that's also the reason you'll only find a handful of leagues that are stats only. IMO, the only way to measure whether you can be a true successful GM in this game! |

I am seriously considering the Stats Only route. I usually use advanced stats to either confirm/dispute what my scout is saying anyway.. going without the ratings is very intriguing.

I kinda do half/half. Stats with 1-5 ratings which makes the ratings obscure enough that they're almost meaningless.
