There appears to be some historical accuracy, in terms of young players coming into the league at the right time.( not sure 100% accuracy though)

On the second point, I can't be a commish but I can keep pushing the 'play a week' button and every so often check in on changes in the news.( trades, injuries etc...)
Of course the team I manage if they receive news often the game will slow to a crawl. So I limit the news my game will stop on to longer injuries.

Ok now running two extended fictional seasons with the Honolulu battleships(30team league) and the Honolulu Zombies(24 team league).
Also the historical 75 reds, now five years on without a tittle! Aargh!
But look at who the AI has traded for over the last two seasons....

1982 season( 7years out from 75)
The big trades made by the AI looked good in name, but lead to two and a third years of loosing.
I wanted to jump back in and change the strategy settings. That and a few spotted trades helped a lot.
