So, if I were rebuilding (especially with a limited budget) and I had to choose, I would heavy up on the international and amateur scouting. Just remember to revisit this allocation once you are done "rebuilding." Now, on a personal level, I can tell you that I have my own preferences that stay the same over time despite whether I am on the top or on the bottom of the standings. I tend to do what I just recommended all the time, frankly.

To add a bit to what The Game said, it was announced that OOTPB 15 will have more flexibility in this aspect in that you won't need to have positions open prior to recruiting better coaches. Presumably, you will be able to hire and fire rather than fire and hire.

Look at it this way. You don't get bench coaches in the minor leagues so teaching is most probably not a highly important rating for them. Below is a segment from the online manual that describes managers and bench coaches. It seems to me that a bench coach supplements the manager's traits and that, on the major league level, HANDLE VETERANS and HANDLE PLAYERS would be the very least that an acceptable coach or manager should have good ratings for. However, I am sure that the HANDLE ROOKIES and the TEACH ratings also have some effects, so look for a bench coach that has blue and green numbers in EVERY category! (Good luck with that. )

You should have until January? to sign Amateur drafted players. The 1st 5 rounds worth, i think.

When it comes to training camp

A) how many players max can u invite?
B) can u have split squads?
C) how long does camp last ?
D) can u invite players to camp like nhl does or do they have to at least be signed to a minor league deal?

a) 40
b) no
c) month to 5 weeks
d) have to be on 40 man roster. It has been requested to have non roster invites but has not been implemented. I think it is an AI issue.

Expanding a bit on TGH's answers:

A) This, from the online manual:
Quote:
Spring Training is typically held beginning in early March for a period of 30 days. Spring Training is only for major league teams. During Spring Training, the active roster limit is removed, and any players on a team's secondary roster can be moved onto the active roster without recording major league service time. Before Opening Day, you must reduce the number of players on your active roster back to 25 (or whatever the active roster limit is in your league).
C) There's something on the horizon about this in OOTP 15. From the announcement:
Quote:
Each year we add new options to the game, and OOTP 15 is no exception. You'll find useful settings like minor league service time roster limits, options to limit contract lengths, spring training length customization, and more.
D) Looks like there will be an improvement here as well in OOTP 15:

i usually fill my SS-A with my college draftees and players from last year who didn't perform well enough in to go to A-ball..

but yes, you would use FA and your International Roster to fill the remaining short season staff. you can wait until after the draft to see your needs, and who AI releases to make room for drafted players.

note, when i started a QS, i dropped down to only 6 affiliates (moved my 7th to another franchise who only had 6) to remove how many players i had to acquire.

step 1) Move all the players on the roster to one of the team you are keeping.

easiest step 2) Go in league structure, and change who the team is affiliated too. AI will now manage it. I was managing the Jays at the time, so i moved their GCL team to the Cubs who only had one Rookie league team...

pretty sure you could do it now, since the season has not started....

edit: you could make the team unaffiliated, but this makes the team sign a bunch of MILB FA, and these teams usually are super strong (i have one going now just for the fun in A ball. went something like 124-16 and has won the championship last 3 years...)

Real MLB clubs have 6-7 minor league teams. In OOTP you can get away with one.

Only in the first season. In the next season and beyond you can do your roster cuts the day after the draft. That way you are promoting, demoting and releasing at the time new players are entering your organization.

i think it's higher than that in RL. you have rookie leagues in DSL and VSL.

in OOTP you don't even need one, you could use reserve.

when does the season schedule usually generate because i wasnt going to restart my expansion i was just going to change the names of my teams when the season was over. but i didnt want to change them mid-season so i figured when the season was over i would change them for next season so that it doesnt mess up the stats or anything this season

Start of Preseason to the best of my knowledge but it could be as early as January.

I generally make changes like that on January 1.

If needed (and IIRC), the schedule can be manually regenerated up until the beginning of Spring Training.
