it says updating, so you may just have to wait.
but I would think re-installing ootp over it's self would re-associate the game and the browser.

That's really frustrating, because I have no idea whether it's even working, and if it is, what stage it is in and how much longer it will take. I may find after four or five hours that it is in the same state it appears to be now, and perhaps nothing is even happening.
**** it. I am dumping it and trying another one. |

I just downloaded avast and I'm trying that. If that craps out on, I might try MSE next. And it might crap out on me, because it has been stuck on this screen for several minutes now:
Which seems far too long for it to be stuck on it.

So I gave up on waiting for Avast and went to shut down, and then it got stuck for several minutes in shutdown mode. So I had to hard shut it down, and I got the error message restarting it. But now it has finally come back, after spending about five times longer than normal to start up again, and as it turns out, Avast did load up. It just got stuck on its screen and mmade my laptop barf.
But I am running a full system scan with Avast right now, which looks like a very slow process. But, we'll see what it says.

Definitely sounds like a virus. I've been using AVG Free for about 7 years now and to date have never had a problem with viruses.
Every system is different though, so there's never any assurance which is best for yours. There is no anti-virus system that catches them all. The thing is, until a virus is created and released, anti-virus programs can't know it exists. Once it is released, then the AV programmers have to find the fix and update the program. Kind of like going in circles sometimes.

I'm not an expert either, but it has to do something with the file association.
When I installed an HTML editor for easier code of my website it quietly changed the settings for what program opens HTML sites ... so when I tried to "open in external browser" the page was loaded in my HTML editor. Let me take a look ...

Sorry, don't find it either - but it most definitely isn't a virus or something like that ...
I had lots of problems with my Norton Internet Security and switched to Kaspersky ... works a lot better. You could try and go to settings in your Google Chrome, scroll down to "expanded settings" (or whatever it is named in english) and then scroll all the way down to "reset settings" Maybe that will work, but I think the main problem is NIS ... and you should submit a ticket in the support area, they usually help you within a few hours

Chuck,
I too use Avast (I have Avast Pro) and depending on how much data has accumulated on your HD it may take a few hours to run that full system scan. Should you decide to abort the full system scan, you might want to try the boot up scan with Avast.

It's been doing a quick scan for an hour now and it's only 47% done. Is that normal?

One thing to note here is the quick scans vary in the amount of time to complete due to any running programs such as instant messaging, email clients, web browsers, etc.

Verdict:
Maybe I will try to run a full scan overnight, since that is about how long the stupid thing will take. But so far, nothing is finding anything, except that odd Retrosheet-ish file. |

Quick note for anti-virus and OOTP: exclude the OOTP data folder in your scanner's settings.

I'm jumping in here a bit late but I don't see a post stating whether you checked to see if the file associations were messed up or not.
In windows 7 you can check them by going to: Control Panel --> Programs --> Default Programs --> set Associations Look for .htm and .html being associated to your browser, Chrome I think you said you use. If you've already checked this sorry for the back track. |

I don't know about that program but you should definitely download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, in fact, I think every computer should have this. Great program.
