I sim one day at a time, and adjust the lineup/depth chart in between to get players rest, as I see fit. But I let Birdie Tebbets (my current AI manager) handle the in-game stuff, as much as it pains my obsessive-compulsive nature. I guess it saves me some time, but it can be aggravating and head scratching at times.

During the all-star break I hand select the entire league running them through a votes system I made and then I run a homerun derby with the 4 best HR hitting all-stars from each league.

About once every week or two i look through my lineups and pitching staff to make tweaks or to check up.

Come playoff time I run real-time sim at 40 factor for all games. For the World Series I personally watch every game no matter who makes it.

After the season I manually do about 15 or so awards with MVP and pitcher of the year going through a voting system. The other awards are hand selected by me (silver slugger, gold glove, foreigner of the year, best overall defensive player, southpaw award, all-pro 9 man squad etc) and I keep track of team seasonal records (most one run victories, extra inning wins, best home record) and monthly player records (mos hr in month etc).

After awards I assess my entire organization, releasing veteran minor leaguers who may never off value, trades, etc.

Once every three seasons in January I run a World Baseball Classic for 16 countries.
Also in January is the Hall of Fame voting process along with hand selected Team Hall of Fame Inductions (one player to each team HoF every 7 seasons).

January also is time for the Collective Bargaining Agreement to be checked on.. If it's expiring that season I enter a bargaining system I made to see if the season will begin on strike and go from there.

Come spring training if i have any jobs that are up for grabs or am trying to pick a #4 or #5 starter from a handfull of people I'll watch ST games and whittle my choice down as spring progresses.

Come April I do it all over.
Dang man, that's intense! lol

One question, how do you have the WBC set up in your game?

Just about all my previous games I've taken done the quickstart, taken over the Padres, and managed every game. I've had issues with save files corrupting those games, so rather than starting one of those over again (plus as much as I like control I don't like after how much time I've put in I'm only 3 seasons in) I decided to try a different setup.

What I'm currently doing and liking very much so far is a fictional league with normal MLB setup, though the teams are a little different. Stats are a 2-8 scale with only potential, no current, and no overall ratings. The other things like fielding and baserunning are 1-10. I've given full control of lineups, rotations, and bullpen to my manager. Same for all my minor league teams. I'm in charge of everything else. It's definitely a different experience than what I have been doing but I like it a lot so far. Since it's fictional (and since I sim every game seasons go by quickly) I love being able to watch the league's history evolve.

-I personally play every game out. I don't manage the game, but make my adjustments on a day-to-day basis. I'll go about a week or so and evaluate my lineup and rotations to see if any adjustments need to be made. I also try to see if there is any weakness's in my positions to see if there can be any needs met in the FA market after a month or so of a sim.
As a general rule I play out every game but right now my team is 66-19 with a 16 game lead. For the last 10 games i have played 3 and simmed 7. I plan on playing out series where the team is leading their division or over .500. I will play out the rest of the interleague games. The rest I will sim til the playoffs. I do tend to play out games til I am 10 games up or 10 GB then I sim the rest.

I am not going to speak for anyone else or even bother to read your thread. I'll just kinda ad lib it based upon the title of the thread.

What kind of simmer am I? I'm the best kind there is. When I push the buttons the universe comes to life better than anyone elses. Not only that but my universe is the most-immersive out of everybody. Everthing is detailed and perfect.

I can only imagine how horrible everyone elses universes are compared to mine so I kinda feel sorry for all of you guys. But...not too sorry...cause I'm having the most fun too.

So, in a nutshell, I am what one would call. "The Alpha Simmer"

I rule!!!

Go me!!!!

Now I'll take the time to read what everyone else had to say since I got all that out of the way...upfront.

I play all my teams games. I play fictional leagues and I have found if I sim to much I don't feel like I get familiar with all the players and league happenings. A game only takes 5-15 minutes on one pitch mode and I usually get thru 10-20 games a play session. A 162 game season usually lasts about 2 real world weeks to finish.

I'm commissioner of my league, I don't control any team... I sim game by game each day, look over stats for the games.. after each day look over any news and transactions... then continue the same process the next day.. its time consuming but I really enjoy observing everything play out closely... I'm in the 2nd season playoffs now so it does take awhile, I started it shortly after getting the game.

For the one who asked about how to run a wbc I believe it's been discussed multiple times here in the boards with the same conclusion, as of now the best way is too simply create a dummy wbc league and clone the players you want in the wbc and manually assign them to the teams you want them on. I myself do that, and then keep track of any injuries and manually assign them to my regular leagues players who get hurt

Same way I did it the one time I attempted it.

I sim in half inning increments for both my teams (I have one in each league, with no inter-league play). In a typical contest I’ll play out a number of ABs and sometimes complete innings at key points or when it strikes my fancy. I make my team’s pitching changes, pinch hitting assignments, and defensive replacements. I sim AB-by-AB for each playoff game and make it a point to play out the full AB of a rookie’s first major league appearance.

I have a Historical, random-debut league going. Started in 1980 and for the first 12 years I simmed each season, stopping to watch the WS and assign each of the year-end awards (Golden Arm award to the top pitcher, etc.). Red Sox and Yankees each have 2 won thus far.

At the end of the 1992 season, I assumed the expansion franchise Florida Marlins GM role. I drafted my squad, and began the process of building the organization as the GM. I have to say, I just love this game. The build-up of making the important decisions of the franchise, building a small-market club and the threat of pissing off the owner has me fully immersed in this universe.

I've struggled in the past with how I should behave in "my world". I want to be the GM, the commissioner, the over-see-er to enjoy what the universe turns into but witness the games without having to be the in-game manager.

Can I just say what an awesome feature the Real-Time simulation mode is? I feel I have found my holy-grail of simulation baseball. I can build my organization, sign and release players and make the final draft calls each day up to game-time. Come game-time, I can sit back and enjoy the real-time simulation of what happens each game across the league which helps my immersion to not only my team, but the league at the same time. I get to see how things unfold each day as well as live the highs and lows of my team. The quick-sim feature is fine, but the level of detail in the RTSM cannot be understated.

What a fantastic feature! Pure brilliance!

It is now April 6th, 1993 and I just witnessed my Marlins record move to 2-0! We started the inaugural season at home and host the Dodgers. Our pre-season record has been forecast as a 76 win team, so a 2-0 record in our expansion season is so sweet right now. And I have Markus and crew to thank for building such a great feature into this game. Simply awesome!

Thank you.

I have an unusual routine, in that I completely reset the pitching staff before every game. I set the rotation size to 1 and start the highest-rated rested pitcher, regardless of whether he's identified as a Starter or Reliever, and I dump everyone else into the bullpen. I sim the game, check the box score, check the league Front Page, and check the standings, and start it all over again. This has worked surprisingly well on teams that have weak starting pitching.

I rarely sim entire weeks unless my team completely sucks.

I occasionally reset the lineup if I notice there's a player that's struggling. I tend to use players from any position into the Left Field slot if someone is swinging a hot bat but is otherwise on the bench. This is good if I have a hot-hitting backup catcher or infielder that I otherwise can't get into the lineup. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.

I mostly do historical sims...simming a season at a time and watching the playoffs.i don't control anyone, just watching it. But sometimes i'll do a current sim and play out games, but that doesn't happen too often.

Lately, I sim by month for the first couple of months (this is usually interrupted by personal messages), and then by week and slow down to day by day as the season gets into its last part. Also leading up to the trading deadline, I go slower too. I will choose a few games at random to play through, but I don't manage because I don't think I'm that good! I like the GM part of the game, and the best GMs don't react to the day to day performance, but look at longer trends.

In the playoffs, I'll either sim day by day, or watch my team play, depending on how much time I have. After reading this thread, I may start playing more games.

In other leagues I've managed more games, but learnt I wasn't that good at it. But it was fun.

I'll do different things, depending on the kind of game I'm playing.

Let's say I'm running a fictional league, acting as the Great Baseball Deity. Then, my "objective" is watching the league unfold and developing its history over time. I'll want to move fairly quickly, so I might sim a week, or even a month, at a time. I'll check the standings and the news, so I don't miss a no-hitter or an important milestone, and then I'll move on. I'll sometimes take the post-season one game at a time. Then, at the end of the year, I'll take a longer look at the league as a whole. I let the computer pick the award winners, because it's fun to look at them and think "good call," or "what were they thinking?"

If I'm running one team, I'll play or sim a game at a time. I'll handle the day-to-day functions for my team the way a real manager/GM might do. The "objective" this time is different, because I want the experience of guiding a team over the course of a long season. Naturally, that game is going to progress much, much more slowly.

I play both ways, because I think I'd get start to get tired of only one "playing style."
