Well, that's strange. Just tested it myself and got the same result you did. Kind of defeats the purpose of having the new CBA rules in effect, IMO. I just never came across a situation that brought this issue to light in several seasons' worth of leagues.

I wish that the new CBA was properly implemented in this regard, I have players leaving and signing for 20 million a year and I get no compensation because they are not comp eligible.

I forgot that in the new CBA, Players acquired midseason can not result in compensation picks. I acquired this player midseason.
