Final Stats spring training, roster heading into opening day
Well we're not in San Antonio anymore, that's for sure. We did make it through camp with no real injuries to speak of, and some guys I was thinking would break camp with the big club, played their way off the roster, McKellar, Horne and our pen looks deep and strong. Which I suspect it will have to be. I am trying to break camp with 8 relievers, as I think I may need them, but I don't know that I can.
The best I can hope for is a relatively injury free season. The whole ballgame is assembling talent, no one, not even Seb Adams, is untouchable. His signing cost me the 1st pick in the 2nd round and I've love to deal and get another pick around then. As yo can see from the stats, the staff should actually be ok, but the offense is breaking camp with 10 players (of 13) that have fewer than 200 IBL at bats, including 6 that have never had a single AB. That will not go over well in this pitching rich division. I have 1 offensive player with a positive WAR.... Salt Lake is looking at an IBL record breaking season, and not in a good way. I'm actually surprised to see that many wins, but I think the focus on cheaper, older, free agent starters helped, along with stockpiling the pen. Still no Michigan.... Casillas with a possible run at the triple crown again, and Stan Hall, holy cow if the manages that this year I don't know what to say. San Antonio, I expect, to make a big time run, for a lot of years. That club is stacked. Huge year and possibly consecutive MVP runs for Craig, Quincy Hutchison making another 30/30 run. My goodness look at the Las Vegas pitching and that's with Brandon Webb nowhere to be found. O'Dell and Merrill (though I have no idea why they signed him) with big years and van Claveren making another run at the single season K record.

Week 4
2035 SEASON WEEK 4
RECORD: 3-4 OVERALL: 11-15 5 GB (Edmonton 17-11 (2-5) RUNS SCORED: 100 (34) 16th RUNS AGAINST: 109 (25) 5th OWNER/FANS: Good 99/100 (-1) SCHEDULE: 2 @ Hawaii/4 vs Edmonton/1 vs Staten Island 4/23 HAW 8 SD 4 W-Ford (1-1) L-Villanueva (1-3) HR NONE Ford (HAW) 8 IP 12 H 4 ER Anderson (HAW) 3-5 2B (1) 2 R Gonzalez (HAW) 2-4 BB 2 R 3 RBI (15) Jones 3-4 BB 2B (4) R 2 RBI (13) Villanueva 1.2 IP 8 H 6 ER Nelson 3-4 RBI (2) ROSTER NEWS-I've signed veteran LH reliever Orlando Ortiz to a 2 year 2M dollar free agent contract. I need a 2nd left hander in the pen. I actually need about 4 more relievers in the pen the way my starters are going right now. Dustin Glenn is designated for assignment. I've also put a waiver claim in on 24 year old middle infielder Cordell Calhoun of Los Angeles. He's a legit player who's got some room to grow and is exactly the type of character guy you work to put into these situations. INJURY NEWS-Brooklyn's Ricciardo Vasario herniated a disc in a game on the 21st and the team learned he'd miss the next 3 months, at least. The 76 million they spent this winter is on the DL for 12 weeks. This is the 2nd year in a row he's missed a huge chunk of the season. 4/24 SD 13 HAW 8 W-Vogel (3-1) L-Rivera (2-1) HR HAW-Moore (2) SD-Cook (1) Vogel 5.2 IP 8 H 6 ER Smith 4-5 SB (5) 2 R RBI (8) Uribe 2-4 2 2B (8) 3 R 3 RBI (15) Cook 3-5 2B (3) HR 2 R 3 RBI (4) Nelson 3-5 R Conley (HAW) 3 RBI (20) V. Gonzalez (HAW) 3-5 2B (6) 3B (1) R RBI (16) ROSTER NEWS-The Calhoun waiver claim went through. He will come in an play SS/2B pretty consistently as we work to rebuild. The claim meant Ferguson was expendable and this trade was worth it. Timo is actually ready to start, but a borderline guy due to his inability to get deep into games. We're going to give it a whirl. He can always be a power arm out of the bullpen. 32 year old Gustavo Villanueva was designated for assignment to make room. Probably just as important as any of this was the ability to grab another early pick, this time a 3rd (pick 104) for a 5th (pick 157). Right now I have picks 1, 83, 99 and 104). I started the year with picks 1, 49, 83 and 121. So in essence I've swapped 49 for 99 and 121 for 104. The key is in the players I dealt in those trades making players out of themselves. Calhoun is a RHH who plays an exceptional 2B and is getting better at SS. He's not fully matured as a player, but he has across the board above average tools now, or the potential to get the others there. Runs a tic above average and also handles the bat, bunting, extremely well. 4/25 SD 11 EDM 1 W-Dayman (2-2) L-Serrano (1-2) HR EDM-Soto (3) SD-Morin (3) GS Dayman CG 3 H 6 K (1st ever San Diego CG) Morin 2-4 1st Sun Devil Grand Slam 4 RBI (12) NEWS-Marcos Ximenes came to see me today. Apparently he feels he should be the teams closer. It wasn't combative or confrontational, but a constructive conversation. At the end I agreed. Why not? He's got the arm, signing Ortiz gives me a left setup man. Escalante was informed of the change and he's moving into a setup role. 4/26 EDM 3 SD 2 W-Hall (1-1) L-Ximenes (0-1) BS (1) S-Miller (8) HR EDM-Cox (1) PH GW SD-Calhoun (1) Well that went well. Draft pool revealed, top players
DRAFT NEWS The pool for what will likely be one of the most important drafts of my career is out. A ton of pitching, and some big time catching at the top of the talent list. Goff jumps out but he's 5'9 tall, and that scares me as a #1 overall pick. The upside is his work ethic and his upper 90's fastball. Haitly is a potential franchise bat, and Wallace, the kid out of HS is a potential, smart, great work ethic. Ibarras is IBL ready now as a defender, huge power, student of the game and a grinder. So tons of pitching and the top spots on the position player board are catchers, though Martinez could be a legit option at 1 as well. Make no mistake, this pick HAS to be a top of the rotation ace or a 3 hole hitter for a decade + for this plan to go accordingly. After 1 I don't pick again until 83 and then 99 and 105 in the 3rd.

He argues for a trade but I have to let him know we tried, no one was biting. Hate to have to tell a player that. 26 year old Maximo Stone, an elite defender who's doing well at AAA San Francisco (.306-4-22) is being recalled. Stone was drafted out of Tulane in the 4th round of the 2030 draft, right after I departed Alaska. The news, for him, is sweet. He's heading to a contender. Our fans aren't happy as we trade our most popular and probably our best starting pitcher, but this is exactly the sort of deal we HAVE to make to get where we want. We acquire two huge prospects, one bat and one arm, and we move from the 1st pick in round 3 to the 29th pick in round 2 (77th overall). Spooneck was drafted 85th overall by LA in 2034 out of Los Altos HS in Los Altos, California. He skyrocket up the prospect charts, entering this year #29 in the league. He's a franchise CF who can flat out fly. He can hit, and has power and likely could bunt .300. He's already an elite defender in CF and can play both corners in a pinch. He is the future leadoff hitter, or #2 guy, for this franchise. He's just 19 years old and hails from Sunnyvale California. Thompson was the West Michigan White Caps #1 pick in 2034, 12th overall , out of U. of Texas-Arlington. Was dealt to Columbus this winter and entered the year the IBL's 25th ranked prospect. He was pushed way too fast, entering the year in AA when he should have started at A ball, which is where he will head. He is a true #1 or #2 arm. He's 6'2 and throws an easy 95+. He has. Amazingly, 6 pitchers and 5 are already + (Cutter, Curve, Slider, Fork and a circle change) with a regular change coming. He will report to Rehoboth Beach and start tomorrow, Sponneck (pronounced Spawn-eck) will head to Moore and start the year at their Short Season club. Losoya, Austin and Ross Jr. all served their purpose. Players gotten to be included in deals exactly like this. As of today Sponneck is rated #25 and Thompson 21 on the prospect listing, and these guys move our system to the #10 organization in the game and give us 3 in the top 50 with Melendez (#39) who's nearing a call up to AA (.346/.416/.566 in 53 games at Class A Norman with 8 HR 40 RBI) after winning POTW honors for Norman with week. The more immediate issue is how to fill Dayman's rotation spot with someone serviceable as Eric Barton is called up to replace Losoya, I put a claim in for 28 year old SP Mike Garner out of Sacremento. A RHP who's bounced back and forth since 2030 making 28 relief appearances. Reliever Mark Catron will be recalled until the claim is resolved to give us an extra arm out of the bullpen. (fan interest dropped 4 pts at the news) OTHER NEWS-Sergio Silva appears to have capitalized on his torrid start, nabbing 68 million for the next 4 seasons from the Diablos. IBL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK FL POTW: Thomas Herring (EDM) 9-18 4 HR 8 RBI (.325-15-37) CL POTW: Al Hurt (DAL) 13-21 HR 6 RBI (.426-7-22) IBL POWER RANKINGS 1) Las Vegas (1) 2) Alaska (2) 3) El Paso (3) 4) Brooklyn (8) 5) Tulsa (-) OUT West Michigan (19) Philadelphia (16) 18) San Diego (19)

MAY comes to a close...
Delgado makes it 2 months in a row. Chicago, Alaska both atop their divisions with my last club 3.5 back but leading the WC race. Gareth van Claveren is on pace for 404 strike outs after a monster May. His strikeout totals per start, 13. 14, 14, 14, 13, 9 and 11 for a new IBL record 74 in a single month.

I also put another claim in, Columbus OF Kasper Costell, a 30 year old LHH RF/CF. He's a top tier defender in both places and a good offensive player. If the claim makes it I'll likely designate or part ways with 32 year old Roosevelt Cooper. He just has not been able to find his swing (.192/.229/.232) in 33 games and while I'd love to trade him I can't get a bit. LATE BREAKING NEWS-Salt Lake City bit! They are in desperate need of bodies and I unloaded Cooper, and journeyman Angelo Nunez, both far better players than their numbers this year (Salt Lake inserted Cooper into the 2 hole vs RHP) and I got back RHP Wayne Larkin, who will start, and a HUGE pickup in swapping 2nd rounders and I give up 1 of my 3rds for theirs. This is huge, we are now picking 1, 50, 86 and 108 where we were picking 1, 77, 98 and 104. I'm feeling way more excited about that 2nd pick now, there is a chance to get a very good player there. Well, a player 27 spots better than the one I had. Larkin will head to the IBL bullpen, since he's out of options, as we await the claim on Costello in 4 days. 5/31 SD 6 AZ 4 W-Keller (3-0) L-J. He was arbitration eligible and looking at 1.5-2M, got him at 1.2/1.8/2.5 and a vest option (40 GF) of 4.07M in 2039. At 26 he's going to be a late inning arm for me for the length of this deal. ROTATION NEWS-Mark Catron is going to be given a shot to start as well. After Garners start tomorrow we'll see where we are at, but Catron has a starter build and repertoire, just needs to improve his command. 6/1 AZ 7 SD 4 W-Roman (2-3) L-Garner (0-1) S-Dickerson (1) HR AZ-Casillas (14) Mathews (4) Ricci (6) Garner 5 IP 8 H 4 BB 5 ER Adams 3-5 2B (13) R RBI (22) Mathews (AZ) 2-5 HR 3 RBI (20) Ricci (AZ) 2-4 BB 2B (11) HR 2 R 2 RBI (33) 6/2 AZ 6 SD 5 W-D. San Antonio, clearly in win now mode, is looking for bullpen help and IF depth, so I give it to them in Glenn and Morin. I grab Cruz who I traded for last year and pick up a very nice SP prospect in Romero. I also manage to get back into the 5th round by giving them my 6th pick. ROSTER NEWS-In other news the claim for Costello has gone through. I designate SP Mike Garner, just days after claiming him, and I am likely to let Cruz sit a day on the DFA list and I will shop Alvin Nelson tomorrow, if no one bites I'll option him to SF. The move of Morin also leaves me short handed in the infield. It's either a call up, trade or a claim needing to be made in the next few days. For today I'll grab Martin Weeks as a backup INF from SF. IBL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK FL POTW: Tony Williams (GB) 12-27 3 HR 10 RBI (.370-3-14) CL POTW: Enreecko Obispo (SJ) 11-24 4 HR 10 RBI (.272-5-31) IBL POWER RANKINGS 1) Alaska (2) 2) Las Vegas (1) 3) Brooklyn (4) 4) San Antonio (-) 5) Arizona (-) OUT El Paso (7) Tulsa (6) 14) San Diego (18) NEWS: Sacramento took on the final year and wasted little time getting Cameron to stay for 4 more. 7-4 2.35 in 13 starts will do that for ya.

Building a team is hard work
I thought I'd catch you up on the chaos.
This is the past 2 weeks worth of moves. I do this because they aren't done yet. You see Ron Moore just signed, I needed AAA depth at Catcher. He refused to go down upon signing and is a player in the middle of a trade I am working with New Orleans, but I am waiting to hear back. There's a rhythm to this, and it's humming right now, just 11 days before our 1st draft.

2035 amateur draft
2035 AMATEUR DRAFT
This is, after 23 years, a completely new mindset for coming into a draft. Ive managed to grab a few prospects, but I am literally trying to fill an entire organization, starting this year. As the owner I have given myself flexibility monetarily this year, understanding that EVERYTHING revolves around this day. If you want to build something lasting and long term, and rock solid, it all starts with the amateur players you bring into your system, both US and foreign born. I will be extremely aggressive in both this draft and the upcoming international FA market. Here are the top 10 prospects heading into the war room today. I will follow the 1st round until they are gone. Number in (#) is their place on the list. You have rules you live by, ideas you try and follow and stick to. Short starting pitchers dont have long careers, for the most part. To every rule, and every idea, there are exceptions. Ray Goff out of Auburn is an exception, I hope. At 59 and 175 lbs hes WAY on the short side of what I look for. The exception? He throws upper 90s at 21, he has an exceptional work ethic, hes healthy and has been and he had a great year (9-1 1.99) vs great competition. Hes asking 8m, which sucks, but our scouts are unanimous that hes the best pitcher, by a wide margin, in this draft and every bit the package you look for, minus 4-6 inches, with the 1st overall pick. 1) San Diego Ray Goff RHP 21 59 175 Auburn The San Diego Sun Devils 1st ever draft choice is also the guy we expect to pitch game 1 of our first world series, when we get there. We are not haggling, weve made it clear well meet his demand before the draft today, I expect to get him signed quickly, and get him to A ball or Short Season, not sure. 2) Mexico Roger Thurman RHP 21 511 190 U. of Illinois A low to mid 90s fireballer with 4 ++ pitches, advanced for his age. Loves the game. 3) Ottawa Jerry Haitly C 19 64 210 Forin HS, Sacramento, CA Our scouts love this kid. Big bat, going to be a great receiver. Heard he was locked into an Ivy league school. Huge power, looks to be a 3 hole hitter. (5) 4) Salt Lake City Bill Johnston LHP 17 62 185 Plymouth HS, Indiana Upper 80s high school lefty with 5 pitches, 3 of which grade out as exceptional potential (FB, slider, Change). Future manager, great teammate. (3) 5) New York Dwayne Cooper C 22 66 230 USC Premier player on both sides. 3 or 4 hitter and outstanding defender. Too big for me to catch, and a quiet kid. OSA had him as their top overall offensive prospect. (1) 6) New Orleans Leon Ferguson RHP 20 61 190 Rice 1st of back to back picks. Huge arm, 5 pitches, works upper 90s. Teammates think hes a dick, trash talker. Has #1 makeup. (4) 7) New Orleans Marcos Ruiz RHP 21 61 195 Penn State-Scranton Big time win here with back to back top of the rotation college arms. Mid 90s 3 pitch righty who is a gamer. Lives at the ballpark. (6) 8) Hawaii Ramiro Martinez OF 20 62 195 Murray State Our favorite position player. Already above average in CF, big legs and a 4 or 5 hole bat potential. Big time intangibles, leader and hard worker. (10) 9) Dayton Pat Robinson RHP 18 6 180 Toms River East, NJ 3.5 pitch righty whos 91-93 already. Features ++ change up potential and great forkball. Question around stamina for us. Quiet kid. 10) West Michigan Ed Robinson RHP 18 62 185 Interlake HS, Wa We loved this kid. His 3 pitches, potentially, are all wipeout offerings. 92-94, big time presence on and off the field, leader. Tools to be a 240 IP+ guy. (8) 11) Michigan Dave Wallace RHP 18 61 185 Nova HS, FL Great intangibles, big arm, big baseball IQ. 4 + pitches with a ++ FB and Curve. Great pick here. (7) 12) Houston Dale Hartley LHP 23 510 195 Villanova Oldest college arm in the round. Huge arm, upper 90s with HoF fastball. We have him as a 3 or as a late inning power arm. Leader, great teammate. 13) Philadelphia Jose Ibarra C 21 62 205 Hofstra Best defending catcher in the draft. Huge power potential, already advanced. Student of the game and puts enormous time into preparation. (9) 14) San Jose Jesse Terry IF 18 6 170 UMS-Wright Prep HS, AL Surprising pick with Edgar on the board. Good wheels, 2 hole bat as it projects. Very raw defensively. 15) Buffalo Daniel Edgar IF/OF 18 61 170 Washburn HS, MN Steal of the draft in everyones eyes. Versatility to start at 2B, 3B, SS, CF, RF depending on where they need him. Insane tools on defense. Big power potential, average runner. OSAs 2nd rated prospect coming in. (2) Thats it for the top 10 prospects. Im 35 slots from my next pick and my hope is that Bin Halim or Christensen is on the board. Teams have issues sometimes taking RP this early. In a perfect world Catcher Angelo Martinez would be around, RF Bill Ellis and IF Leo Branch. One of them likely will be as all are HS projects. Martinez went 18th to Arizona, and Baltimore took bin Halim with the 19th pick while Dallas took Christensen with the next pick. PICK 1) Rob Charles 1B 19 61 200 Pickerington Central HS, OH Scouts were pushing SP Stan Rodgers (great arm, major stamina questions) and Chet Thomasson HS OF (great wheels but the bat doesnt feel like it deserves this early of a pick). Charles is a beast, huge power potential, good defender at 1B now. Cant run, but 4 hole bat potential. FWIW Thomasson and Rogers went with the next 2 picks. 2) Jake Marris IF/OF 21 511 175 U. of Mississippi Another Alex Covington. Already rated a 19+ defender at 2B, SS, LF and CF. OSA has his bat as a better one than we do in a few years, but hes a potential elite extra man being able to play 5 different positions at a gold glove level. 3) Juan Cortez LHP 18 62 190 Huntington HS, MD A potential 1st round arm with big ask (3.4M). Concerns around his ability to work deep into games pushed him back this far as a SP prospect. Cuban kid with good intangibles and great body. Could be a 2 or 3 if everything broke right. Nice pick for the 2nd of 2 third rounders. I dont pick again until the back end of the 5th round. 4) Tom Wood RHP 18 62 190 Lincoln-Way Central HS, IL Actually a hidden gem this late.
